Would you like to have a stab at next week's lottery numbers for us? 😄 i've been stabbing at that game for 25+ years - no luck! i'm beginning to think that the advertising is misleading "it couldn't be me". I did it for about six years, then realised that if I put away each week what I was spending on the lottery, it would eventually be equivalent to a substantial win, so I gave up on it. 🙂

Let’s see if Roger decides to make some concerts across Europe i think it'll be an extremely tight fit to squeeze any more gigs in: 2022: May - Q+AL tour rehearsals May 27 - June 21 - Q+AL - UK Tour June 24 - July 25 - Q+AL - European Tour Factor in that Tina Keys [Hizon] may/may not be booked to tour with one or more of her other employers; Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa and/or Pet Shop Boys. Feb 09 - May 03 - Dua Lipa Apr 23 - Sept 25 - Ed Sheeran May 10 - July 9 - Pet Shop Boys Sept 17 - Oct 16 - Pet Shop Boys Depending upon who she does/doesn't tour with, there's a small window at the beginning and end of 2022, for sure. There'll be no more live gigs from Roger this side of Christmas 2021 either, as Christian Mendoza and his band [ Electric Pyramid] have some European gigs planned for the tail-end of November.

Forgot to mention that last night show the audience's Hello thing went on again, very loudly multiple times to the point that Roger had to say, "It's meant to be serious!" and also shushing them, haha. Yes. That was a funny moment last night. I think he was amused by it.

I think I saw two keyboardists for aKoM. Who played piano? I have always preferred the live version of aKoM with piano, and this version fealt particularly energetic to me. the two keyboard players are Tina Keys [Hizon] & Spike. From one viewing and listening of the video it looked Tina played piano played the "piano" the first half of the song while Spike played "piano" the second half. That can' be right? Can it?
Anyway, Tina sure looked jubilant while she was playing. I almost forgot Brian was playing.

Did anyone who was there spot any of the shows being professionally recorded? It looked like there were audience mics in place last night (by the soundboard) but no signs of a camera crew. It would be a real shame if this tour doesn’t get a release in some form. Then again, poor quality YouTube clips and 7” singles are what we’re getting for the 50th anniversary, so I wouldn’t be surprised..

The doctor is IN.
What a relief to see him in good health and even better spirits. His playing in Tutti Frutti was especially inspired.

Rogers face when Brian comes on is unbridled happiness!! So pleased he seems to be back to top form. As others have said, maybe Rogers tour will inspire Brian to do a few shows…. We can but hope

They look so happy in the Tutti Frutti video, I hope it rekindles the idea you can do intimate smaller solo gigs to Brian.
I can't wait for some talented person to edit the different video's together into a big multi-camera best of outsider tour video.

No disrespect to Christian Mendoza, but Brian, Roger, Neil and Tyler would make a great band and they could do a mixture of their solo stuff and Queen songs. I think that would make a lot of fans very happy.

Unfortunately I think Brian lost confidence in his voice a long time ago, which is why he uses Kerry so much. I’d pay too dollar to see what’s left of Queen go on the road, but I think we’ll have to happy with what’s on offer

I think that line up playing a mixed set as suggested would be entertaining and interesting, but, I think it would blur the lines between Queen+ and their solo careers which is something they seem they want to avoid.

Well I guess that’s the other thing. Does he remain the “front man” or does he get behind the kit for Brian’s and maybe the Queen songs too with Tyler’s Suport as they do in with Queen+.

Hi inuliger, Thanks for sharing your experience. Did you enjoy the concert? Sorry for the late reply. Oh boy, did I ever! Great set list, great band, AND I finally achieved a lifelong dream of meeting him and getting an autograph directly (see: www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbcsMqti1_8 ) Also, there will be a GREAT sounding bootleg of this show coming as soon as I’m back in Canada at the very end of the month. No hyperbole here, I think this show is one of my top 10 audio recordings I’ve ever made. Oh, and managed to film the whole thing too Congratulations and I'm very much looking forward for the full film! 😍

Nottingham - October 15, 2021 This was my first gig as an attendee in nearly two years - the last one being The Darkness in 2019. I never thought I'd see myself attending a solo gig by a Queen member. Such a thing hasn't happened since the '90s, and this part of their lives seemed to be in the rearview mirror. The anticipation leading up to the start of the gig was palpable amongst the 2,000 or so on hand as reality set in. (photo by my pal Niek) It was surreal to be in a room full of people singing every word of the title track from Strange Frontier. I haven't experienced that feeling since I saw Dweezil Zappa doing I'm the Slime. "You and me seen better times" - these words carried an extra layer of poignancy on this occasion for all the obvious reasons, but at the same time it just wasn't the case in that exact moment, as this is the best thing every one of us could possibly have been doing. The joy of being together with the man whose music means so much to us made it all null and void, even just for a couple wonderful hours. Point blank, the band was killer - without question it's the best he's ever assembled. They were musically and vocally tight. The five of them smiled at one another throughout, and the elder statesman interacted with his band with the most genuine of joy. The backing vocals in the early Queen pieces like Tenement Funster and I'm In Love With My Car were perfectly executed. But it's the main man we all came to see. Roger is so unapologetically himself. He never looks fully comfortable as the frontman of a band, but at the same time he also looks like he'd rather be nowhere else. He wears his heart on his sleeve, just like the lyrics on every one of his solo albums. It's incredible he's still this good at 72, singing as well as he did 30 years ago. His drumming chops were in great shape too - far better than 2005 where he sometimes looked out of breath. He's taking much better care of himself now. Most of the old rock stars must have personal trainers and stylists, as they're looking and sounding better than they did in decades past. Aware of his limits, Roger sat down at his drum kit just twice - but both were eventful. These guys are well into retirement age, and we're lucky they're doing this at all. The band did give him a break half way through, and the interlude of Rock It (Prime Jive) with wingman Tyler Warren on the lead vocal was quite possibly the highlight of the evening. Warren needs no introduction, and is absolutely a world class talent. He is unquestionably the best guy on the planet for the gig. He deserves it. Christian Mendoza was excellent on guitar as well. On Say It's Not True it became clear that he was closer to Jeff Beck than Brian May, which is precisely why he's there. Roger doesn't want someone who plays like his old Queen bandmate - he wants someone who makes it his own, and isn't too flashy. Mendoza is the perfect guy for the job. Bassist Neil Fairclough has done the arenas and stadiums of the world with Brian and Roger, but he was just as happy to be in a club, playing spotlessly as always. But it's Tina Hizon that was the secret sauce, playing four instruments. She was even on double duty, as Spike Edney wasn't on the gig because he was unwell. Roger mentioned how the musical director was at the hospital earlier that day, and near the end of the show to his surprise Spike came on in shorts and a t-shirt to play the last few songs. Hizon nailed Treanna Morris' part on Surrender, and in my head all I could think was - this was clearly her audition piece. She was a dead ringer. A huge talent. There was a moment of levity in Foreign Sand. It's pretty well inarguably the most gorgeous song he's ever composed, but on this night after "just say hello" the crowd literally said hello, and he loved it, laughing his way into the next line. The triumvirate of Roger, Tina, and Tyler on drums at the tail end of Up was a high point as well.
For the encore Roger came on sporting a shiny red cigar jacket, looking like a million bucks. They did two covers, and for Heroes the multi-instrumentalist Hizon played the Robert Fripp part on electric violin.
The only complaint is that the mix often wasn't great, as it was a bass trap up in the balcony. We couldn't even hear much of Roger's banter between songs, although the backing vocals were mixed well. A couple of my friends who didn't know most of the material weren't overly pleased, because the lyrics are a fair portion of what's on offer with Roger's earnest and often heartfelt compositions. But for the most fervent of fans, the setlist was brilliant - songs spanning his entire career from all but one of his albums, as well as a fair chunk of the songs he wrote for Queen. I was thrilled to hear A Nation Of Haircuts from Electric Fire, and the new tunes all sounded great too. I wish we could've heard something from Fun In Space, but Roger's vocal range isn't quite what it was 40 years ago, and his sense of self-awareness combined with his musical maturity had him assembling a band and a setlist perfect for 2021. His first four solo albums are all criminally underrated (here's my review of the first two). It seems almost unfathomable that the drummer of the most popular of all the classic rock bands (if Spotify spins are an accurate enough metric to measure this) is playing clubs, but if anything that just amplified the feeling of intimacy. There was this feeling of "he's ours." There was supposed to be an opening act, Colin Macleod, who is apparently quite good. But honestly, after nearly two years of not being able to see a gig, two hours was the perfect length. What a joy it was to watch the gig with vh and BrƎИsꓘi , both of whom I've known for years and met for the first time that night. As we exited the venue there were a few hundred kids lined up for a rave. A few hours earlier it was people 2 to 3x their age in that same formation. I hate to sound like an old man or a Luddite, but they had no idea what they were missing. Great review, and it was lovely to meet you. I always loved Roger's solo shows, so intimate and a definite feeling that it's something very special.

These two songs got me more excited than the whole Q+ tours. I have been wishing Brian and Roger to go by themselves for 20 years, right after the EF tour when the have started doing all the Q+ stuff (R. Williams, 5ive, PR, AL among several others). Roger could have became the main singer, backed up by talented musicians like Neil and Tyler are, and of course with Spike's skills too.
They could have filled a really nice set list even if we'd just considered what they have already provided vocals for, already. From memory:
Roger: Ride The Wild Wind IWTBF TATTOOL AKOM RGG Tenement Funster IILWMC Cosmos Rocks (aka 'Whole House Rockin') HFE
Brian: TYMD IWIA TMLWKY HTF '39 Headlong Tear It Up Hammer To Fall Now I'm Here ITLOTG (R) LOML Las Palabras SASS Sidewalk STL YMBF Good Company
Roger / Brian: IWBTLY SINT FBG UP NOBY TSMGO WWRY WATC
Of course that the hard-vocal-skills songs like BoRhap (ballad section), DSMN, WWTLF, etc songs should habe been tricky, but there's always a way to go: guest singer, Freddie's vocal track, etc. Anyway I think that Roger could have nailed all them, at least avoiding the high notes.

He'd play drums. Tyler plays a bunch of instruments too, so he could easily cover rhythm guitar parts for songs that don't call for extra percussion.
We can dream. It's amazing Roger went on the road at all, and that it was this successful.

I was psyched for this tour on the basis that we’d hear - on the whole - something a bit different, songs that RMT hadn’t played for a good few years. I didn’t go to hear the Queen songs. If Brian were to tour, and do it properly (no Kerry!), then it could be equally as rewarding for everybody.

I was at SB on Friday. Do you know the feeling of being in an audience and the mood is such that you start to believe in the hyperbolic message of the songs? I got to that place. It is great to visit there from time to time.

Some of the Roger-Penned Queen tracks were nice to hear, but to tell the truth, I really don't care one iota if I never hear Radio Ga Ga, Under Pressure or A Kind Of Magic live ever again. There's so much of Roger's songs that are never heard live, I'd gladly shunt those three songs aside to make room....especially, if My Country I&II, Future Management, Fun In Space and No Violins were the substitutions.

Exactly. The set list was close to perfect, but I think that Fun In Space deserved to have at least one song in it (and "Happiness?" too if "Foreign Sand" is now considered an Outsider track). I would have switched: "Strange Frontier" for "No Violins" "Absolutely Anything" for "Laugh Or Cry" "Surrender" for "Everybody Hurts Sometimes" "Heroes" for "Strange Frontier" "TATTOOL" for "Heaven For Everyone" "Say It's Not True" for "New Dark Ages"
