The trouble with doing a album and doing virtually everything yourself is there is nobody to bounce any ideas off and get some constructive feedback. Outsider is not a bad album ,but it's not a great album either. Fun In Space and Strange Frontier are Roger's best solo albums in my opinion , when Fun In Space was released I played that album to death. I think I have played Outsider about six times. Indeed - nobody's accusing him of reinventing the wheel with his latest album, but it's still surprisingly strong in places.
I feel similarly about McCartney III. It was pretty well all Paul with no outside interference, but there are 3 or 4 seriously great tracks on it.

For me, I love it, but Electric Fire is still my number 1 Roger album. Same here! But 'Journey's end' has become my favorite song of his. Journey's End is a magnificent song.

I agree that Fun in Space and Strange Frontier are his two best. I do like Outsider much more than I expected to, however. For a guy who didn't need to make an album, I think Outsider is a bloody good effort, and despite half the tracks being previously released, it has a really nice flow to it. For him to do a tour as well, rather than just sitting on his arse, is the sign of a musician who still loves being a musician, in my opinion, as I doubt he needed to do it for the money. Agreed 1000% with this.

for me the best Roger Album is “Happiness?” Because he expresses much of his suffering for the loss of Freddie. However, I don't underestimate "Strange Frontiers"...

Foreign Sand is probably my favourite vocal performance of his, including all of his Queen tunes.

Historically the only tour Queen ever made money from was the Magic Tour, simply because it was their last tour and there was no follow-up tour to pump the money back into. I imagine the same is true of Roger; he can’t have made much from the few dates he performed, and I imagine that doesn’t bother him.

But whether or not a tour makes money has nothing to do with what is spent on the next tour. The Works tour was also financially successful. As for Roger Taylor's last tour, he probably did make loss or broke even at best. But he was definitely doing that tour, and album, for the enjoyment and not because he was contracted by a record company to do either.

Why do you say that the RT Tour didn´t make money? Do you have any proof? Or just you need to think this??
I saw some videos, places maybe not full but very good attendance, no big lights/production/expensive things. So i don´t think he lost money with this.

Yes as every single concert out there... And that´s the main reason to think this tour didn´t make money?
You don´t need to have 600.000 people in front of you to have a profit.

Do you have any proof? Or just you need to think this?? I saw some videos, places maybe not full but very good attendance, no big lights/production/expensive things. So i don´t think he lost money with this. it's hard to make money on a small venue/small tour. I was at Nottingham Rock City. The place was nearly full (capacity 2,000). Ticket costs = £44.95 Maximum return from sell out = £89,900.So now let's break it down - these are typical costs found using google (other search engines may be available). Ticket Agent = £4,000 Credit Card Company Booking Fees = £800 Venue (Rock City) = £26,600 Promoter/Touring Company = £29,250 Artist = £29,250From that final figure Roger has to pay the 5 other members of his band. So let's assume the band weren't too expensive (around £3,000 each), that leaves Roger with a gross payment to himself of around £14,250 for each 2,000 capacity gig. Inland Revenue will take around 50% of this (as income tax), which leaves Roger with a net take-home pay cheque of £7,125. That's nothing really, and certainly nowhere near the £10,000 Naomi Campbell said was her bare minimum for getting out of bed back in 1990! I'd pretty much back vh comments - Roger was doing shows for love, and not much else. Note: admittedly there's some money to be made from the concessions - tees/sweatshirts, mugs and souvenirs etc, but even these profits are split (typically) 80/20 with the venue. And remember - unsold stock = dead money.

It depends what deal Rog has with the label too, it's entirely possible a huge chunk could go to them from merch sales.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with simply doing it for the love of playing live. By suggesting he may have lost/broken even/made very little from the tour isn't an attack on Roger, it's the way of the world with touring. With no overheads, smaller bands and artists can do really well from live shows but at Roger's level, his expenditure and the size and status of the venues is on an entirely different level.

Whooooooooo hooooooooooo!!!!!!! I’ve got the new Roger album. So happy.
I ordered the Japanese (2 extra tracks) version when it was released. Ordering this was risky because quite a bit of mail is not reaching Australia. The lockdown and regulations have brought the country to a stand-still.
At first I thought it was lost on the journey. Then Japan Post announced a lot of mail had been sitting at the airport for 2-3 months, and they were now suspending the mail service. The sender whom I bought the disc from is equally frustrated, they are having to explain to many customers why deliveries did not happen.
Meanwhile Ive enjoyed the recent gigs people shared here. Thank you.
A time continued to drift away with nothing happening - I began losing my mind. I’ve been staring at the same four walls for a very long time. But I’ve also been saving lots of money because i can’t go anywhere.
This Christmas I got myself a pair of headphones. Buying a product in Australia is not easy, but that’s another story. I couldn’t ‘try’ the headphones before buying them. So I did a blind buy on a pair of AirPods Max. I’m very happy with them. With the purchase is 6 months free access to Apple Music…
…so Outside here I come. Finally I get to listen thru this album. I love the cover (I’ve spent months admiring the artwork) and now I can discover this collection of music.I’ve always loved his solo work and have the original releases and the Lot box set.
Thx Roger

This one looks great. I wish they did more picture discs that had images that aren't straight from the album cover.

So Roger's picture disc (limited to 2000 units) sells out in about 4 days, but Brian's Back to the Light picture disc (limited to 3000 units) is still in stock six months after it was available for purchase. Interesting to see how the different strategies played out. Brian's was initially offered as a bundle only, and competed with all of the other Back to the Light formats that were released at the same time. Also for some reason they don't mention the fact that it's a numbered, limited edition. Roger's was released well after the first batch of Outsider editions, got more of a spotlight, showcases new artwork, and clearly indicates that it's a limited release of 2000. I guess it's also a reissue vs. a new album, so it's hard to say for sure, but I don't know if it would have taken several more months to move another 1000 units. All in all, it's an interesting contrast. I would love to see the sales figures of the other merchandise, like the shirts. How many people bought the shirt with Brian emerging from the waistband of your pants?

I went and bought the regular vinyl this morning, in a shop, as a treat Sounds great, you do have to pump up the volume but the quality is there - no surface noise, crackles or distortion to speak of - which is a rare treat.

I love this album and the gorgeous artwork too.
But I gotta say this…I know, I know, I know: This song starts and ends with chimes that sound near identical to the chimes you can select as your iPhone ringtone/alarm. Unfortunately I had this as my wake up alarm, and so each time I hear this track it jolts my body like I’m being dragged out of bed.
Otherwise this is a really good piece of work.

Yeah, I've always found this a bit jarring. Then I gave it some thought - maybe it's supposed to indicate a phone call and what you hear is one side of the story "I know, I know, I know..." sounds like someone talking on a phone, apologizing to their better half...

I'm the only one who thinks Roger's last two albums are tortured albums. In my opinion, after the Electric Fire. He either tried to be on the wave of new musical trends, or tried to repeat the formulas of his first albums.
