Interesting choice of his, mostly 90's songs. For me is Happiness? his best solo afford, but I listen to Electric Fire the most frequently bescause of the consistence and more catchy melodies...

tough choice, normally I would probably go with Life Changes but the purple version of Gangsters Are Running This World has been growing on me

The Roger's solo songs I enjpy the most come from Strange Frontier, specially I Cry For You, It's An Illusion and his cover of Racing In The Street. It doesn't mean those are his best solo songs, but in term of taste, those are my favorites.

I love Foreign Sand - the single version more than the album one.

Final Destination is superb, even despite the "ski off the bridge of your pretty nose" line; I prefer that version to the Yoshiki version.
Freedom Train is probably my favorite of his songs, though. So much emotion, and such a powerful performance.

The Whisperers is my favourite. Closely followed by No More Fun. Been listening to The Whisperers a lot over the last few days even for some reason despite not giving it a second thought in the last few years! In terms of the topic though, one of my favourite songs is I Cry For You (Love Hope and Confusion) - I even named my last album after the subtitle of the song! Not keen on the single remixes though, they play a bit too slowly for my liking and the remixing takes away from some of the cool effects of the album version. My other favourite Roger solo songs are Happiness, Strange Frontier, Magic Is Loose, Killing Time, Touch The Sky, Loneliness, Beautiful Dreams and Young Love. You can probably tell that my two favourite Roger solo albums are Happiness and Strange Frontier!

Totally forgot about The Cross material on my last post! Shove It is a weird album, I only really like Contact and Love Lies Bleeding off that one, although I love Contact.
Not keen on Mad, Bad as an album but Power To Love, Liar and Final Destination are easily the standout songs on it.
I adore Blue Rock, even though when I first got into the band, it was probably my least favourite. Lots of cracking, well produced tracks on this album for me such as Life Changes, Baby It's Alright, Millionaire, Put It All Down To Love, New Dark Ages and Hand Of Fools.
Non-album tracks and rarities - Heartland is a brilliant song as is Manipulator. Honourable mention for Feel The Force. I Can Take You Higher is probably my favourite Cross song but never officially released, what an absolute tragedy!!!!

I took a look at my playlist for Roger and here’s what I usually listen to:
Let’s Get Crazy My Country I&II Man On Fire It’s An Illusion Strange Frontier I Cry For You Nazis 1994 Happiness Foreign Sand (single version) Old Friends Pressure On A Nation of Haircuts Surrender Sunny Day Small Say It’s Not True Unblinking Eye Love Lies Bleeding Heaven For Everyone (Rog vocals) Feel The Force Power To Love Old Men (Lay Down) Final Destination (new version) Manipulator New Dark Ages Life Changes
Sometimes I forget how strong a writer and performer he could be. He’s by far, my favourite solo member.

Roger's solo music doesn't really float my boat tbh. Across the board, this is about it for me:
My Country I&II Man On Fire Happiness Touch The Sky (lyrics are sickly and cliched, but musically sounds good) Foreign Sand The Whisperers Sunny Day Small Heaven For Everyone Power To Love
I like his cover version of Keep On Running.
With Queen, it was a different kettle of fish - he had influence from the others - but as a solo artist, it just doesn't work. What a phenomenal singer, though!

Roger’s non Queen output has always been my favourite solo work. Like someone mentioned above he is an amazing singer - love his vocals as much as Freddie’s and actually really believe that Freddie live was massively supported by Roger.
Favourites? Freedom Train, Heartland, New Dark Ages, and weirdly I love Cowboys and Indians. No accounting for taste eh?

My Roger solo (no-Cross) favourites are:
1. Beautiful Dreams (yes, honestly like this track) 2. Happiness 3. Let's get Crazy (Roger at his best in my opinion, no better track in the entire Queen catalogue were he goes apeshit on the drums) 4. Strange Frontier (love the title track, so good) 5. Foreign Sand (ok, I am a big Yoshiki Fan ever since the X-Japan days.... my God, i am truly OLD)
Roger has been a great song writer. Truly creative and experimential. Sadly this all went to shit after the Hapiness album and just recently got picked up again on the "Unblinking Eye" track which is really marvellous and totally in the Bob Dylan vein. But I think he should call it quits now.

The thing is about Roger in my opinion he is very creative and good at coming up with ideas but his songs finished and released most never feel complete or polished, they always feel raw. It's down to preference but it's Freddie contribution which made Radio Ga Ga and A Kind Of Magic the huge hits they are now.

Man I love Roger's solo work. It is definitely rawer but sometimes I can't get enough:

THE CROSS: Cowboys & Indians Stand Up For Love Heaven For Everyone Feel The Force Final Destination New Dark Ages Baby It's Alright Put It All Down To Love Hand of Fools Life Changes

I think conceptually Fun In Space is highly successful. The artwork is great (on vinyl) and you feel like you’re listening to something evocative and interesting. It’s a way better “product” than the cheap, half baked Hot Space. (Bung on Under Pressure and some Freddie reworkings of a few songs and “Fun In Space by Queen” totally changes their 80s trajectory).
But, if you’re inclined to love Loser in the End, Tenement Funster, I’m In Love with my Car and fight From The Inside, it’s a damn shame he didn’t make a a full-on rock album in ‘77 instead of that rather fey single he put out. (Though I do like Turn On The TV and probably prefer it to Drowse).

I remember when Fun In Space came out, I was expecting a "full-on" hard rock album and the only song that truly fit the bill was "Airheads". Regardless...it's a great album and I still think it's his best.

Roger's solo career is second only to Freddie's. But the mere fact that he has so much music could put him slightly ahead. Lots of his songs are sheer fun, and others can be quite introspective and deep. Even political. So in terms of topics, he's quite versatile and eclectic.
A few of his tracks have really touched me. It's An Illusion comes to mind instantly. The refrain has become something of a mantra in my battle to manage anxiety. The song is talking about something else, but it works and has really made an impression on me. Another song is Believe In Yourself. That first verse does a great job of summarizing the way I'd felt for most my life. And that refrain, my God. It's so simple, yet so reassuring. Exactly what I needed to hear in my twenties and I still carry it with me. Aside from the introspective stuff, his songs can just be balls out fun. Airheads is absolutely stupid, as the title suggests, but it rocks. Magic is Loose is pure bliss. And more recently, Sunny Day was the perfect summer song.
Now, The Cross is an entirely different animal. Blue Rock is impressive body of music. But I don't really count that with Roger's solo output. The Cross is a band in and of itself and deserves to be treated as such. Okay, I suppose the first album was more like a Roger solo album, but still. The rest of it was a band effort.

Seriously, when my anxiety skyrockets and I start thinking ridiculous things that bear no basis in reality, this song grounds me. Love it.

I love No More Fun for the pace and clever use of stereo effects. As far as slower songs are concerned, Where Are You Now is my alltime favourite. Although the piano-solo somehow reminds of the Baywatch-intro, so that is one connotation I'd like to erase from my memory

Don't know how I did this, but Future Management has to be in there. anything with a reggae/caribbean feel ticks my boxes every time...even to the point that my favourite parts of Jefferson Starship's Jane and Rush's Spirit of Radio are the small snatches of reggae.
