Interesting quotes/info. Although I consider Jazz to be Queen's lowest quality 70's album, I also consider it to be a pretty good album overall. I've always considered Teo Toriatte to be a great song.
Regarding Brian's DP comments, the Mark II Purple lineup has always been my favourite but if Brian was referring to the Burn album, I think it's pretty good overall. I certainly agree with Brian's appraisal of MIJ.
Cheap Trick bassist Tom Petersson's name is spelled incorrectly in the top post.
I have cassette tapes of The Who's performance at the final show of their Farewell North American Tour in Toronto that I recorded in Dec. 1982. It was a great show that I also watched on TV when it took place.
Regarding some subsequent comments above re. Queen's creative peak, IMHO 1973-'74 were the years, what with both Queen II and SHA recorded and released during that period.

What's interesting to me about John's Jazz quote is that it was made after Hot Space, and the success level thereof.

Freddie's comment about TT might be just to please the Japanese fans, but still some awesome quotes by them!

I think JAZZ is more creative and eclectic than NOTW. But maybe it was step back to an old folmula with RTB as a producer. Yes. I agree with you. For me this album brings back very pleasant memories. I will never forget how I returned home frozen on a cold winter evening from a ski trip and for the first time turned on to listen to the Jazz album. Wow! Unforgettably pleasant feelings, and I think this is the warmest and most comfortable Queen album to rest and relax. Yes, it sounds more classic. But why should good music always be mainstream? They tried to move towards the mainstream on NOTW, but in fact, the style of ADATR with their classic 70s music techniques remains closer to me until now. These foolish critics from NME wrote about Jazz: "If you have a deaf relative, give this album to him for Christmas". But when did someone seriously care about their opinion? it's just a brilliant album and it still remains so after more than 40 years.

Interesting to read, thanks. Can you provide more detailed information about this book? Sure, although I'm not sure what details you're looking for. It was released in January 2020 by Shinko Music Entertainment to coincide with the Greatest Hits in Japan CD/DVD release, and features new 1-on-1 interviews with Brian May, Roger Taylor, Adam Lambert, photographer Koh Hasebe, journalist Kaoruko Togo, a gardener who worked on Freddie's Japanese garden, Freddie's personal bodyguard Hisao Itami and others. It also features very brief interview excerpts from Music Life magazine from the '70s and '80s, as well as abbreviated "Tour Diaries" that have some day-to-day notes on Queen's activities. It's loaded with colour photos, but it's the text that makes this book stand out. The Japanese Amazon listing has some preview pages: www.amazon.co.jp/QUEEN-JAPAN-%E3%82%AF%E3%82%A4%E3%83%BC%E3%83%B3%E3%83%BB%E3%82%AA%E3%83%95%E3%82%A3%E3%82%B7%E3%83%A3%E3%83%AB%E3%83%BB%E3%83%96%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF/dp/4401648706
