Finally got an Allsky camera setup.
The kit itself is fairly straightforward and linked to a smallform factor PC (in our garage). Sharpcap software grabs the images and then I use Microsoft's (free) easy-to-use Timelapse Creator software to turn the images into a movie clip.
Initially, i used a Zwo ASI120MC-S camera (recommended by the guy who sells the Allsky kit). However, I later found that these cameras are prone to gazillions of hot pixels - and no amount of "darks" will really cure the resultant image. Factor in the 1.2mp resolution and So the first clip, is nothing more than a starting point.

Moving forward a few days and my shiny new Zwo ASI290MC (2.13mp) camera arrives, and Saturday i rig the thing up, and take it for a test drive last night (Sunday). I'm impressed with the difference and improved quality of the file. Once autumn/winter arrives there will be opportunities for better captures.

That second video looks very cool, a clear winter's night could yield some amazing material. Maybe you could try shielding the camera from low-altitude lights a bit more to avoid some of the flashes?

ThomasQuinn biggest problem with that is that it's already 3m above ground level (garage roof). and with the lens being 150deg to capture as much sky as possible, then unwanted stuff will creep in. i'd go to top of main house roof, but my height phobia prevents me climbing up there. i really would like to try capture some of the milky way movement before it disappears (late Sept).

Black Wings Chief Mouse ThomasQuinn jon_innuendo HelloDelilah Chopin1995 pg emrabt The Real Wizard Lord Fickleanother go with the Allsky setup last night: Quite a cloudy night, but some night star field captures and not spoiled too much by a waning gibbous moon. ISS clearly visible from 01:52 (bottom left) Equipment Used: Dell Optiplex 780 USFF Intel Dual Core E5800 3.20 GHz PC, running Sharpcap Pro (setup is a minimal spec pc to capture images only). Zwo ASI190MC inside Allsky enclosure fixed to 45 degree 6" s/steel elbow, inserted into flagpole mount.

Very nice! I love the way the different layers of cloud move in and out of view, some like smoke, some like waves, some like...clouds, I suppose. The music is not half bad, either

I love the moon in that last one, it's a shame the youtube compression creates artifacts.

Black Wings Chief Mouse ThomasQuinn jon_innuendo HelloDelilah Chopin1995 pg emrabt The Real Wizard Lord FickleI had another go at the Draconids: Friday 9th October - we're still (just about) within UK peak for the annual Draconids. There's so much happening in this small 1-hr timelapse clip (condensed to 1 minute). Equipment Used: Canon 200D, Samyang 14mm (F/2.8) lens. Tripod, Lens Dewheater and Intervalometer set at 10secs. Camera settings: ISO 3200, Shutter 10secs, Aperture F/2.8 300+ images taken between 8-9pm. PS batch processed, using Astroflat filter (my own settings). there's so much going on; draconid meteors, a few Starlinks, ISS, several jets and a couple of other satellites. please playback on a big screen (laptop or TV)

I love the music you pick for these. What was that at 47 seconds, it seems to stutter along the sky in red and white dots?

The last video is my favourite. Nice and clear view. thanks. didn't use the allsky camera this time - shift to DSLR and 14mm lens improves things. 300+ images to process, before i can even timelapse them, so: I created and action in PS to process in Astroflat. saved action, then ran as a batch. as long as the first file is tweaked/filtered correctly, it does a reasonable job on the rest of them.

So the whole process was a bit different, that's why the results look different. I like the music too, as mentioned before.

i'm learning a lot as i go. wondering if I can get more out of this if i "do over" with the raw cr2 files?
the allsky camera setup will always be limited by the camera resolution and random light reflection off the dome. but it's quick and convenient and does the job. DSLR will produce superior results - but there's the added nuisance of needing to use a dew heater around the lens and needing a completely dry night to save ruining the camera.
