I have seen the diaries that deathtoming made about tours in Japan and I wanted to do something similar with the one in Argentina. I know it won't be as well done as those from Japan, but it's an attempt.Sorry for my Google translator English.Tour Diary ARGENTINA 1981 In 1981 Argentina was under a military dictatorship. Until then, there had been very few concerts by major international groups in the country, and they were not that massive. The businessman who managed the tour was Alfredo Capalbo, who had connections with the government's military, and they authorized the arrival of Queen.Newspaper ad with the first dates for the tour, which would later be modified. The city of Cordoba appears, but finally the local businessman of the city declined to organize the concert, claiming high taxes. In Buenos Aires, the concerts were part of the Carnival program of the Velez Sarsfield Club, since the concerts were held in its stadium. EMI promotional advert that was placed at bus stops. Only the concerts of February 28 and March 1 were announced. Newspaper advert. Poster February 27. Friday
The group flew from Rio de Janeiro. Arrival at Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires. There, hundreds of fans were waiting for you.Brian traveled with his wife Chrissie and their children, John with his wife Veronica and their children, Roger with his girlfriend Veronique and Freddie with his partner Peter Morgan. At the airport they attended to the press in a VIP lounge. They stayed at the Sheraton Hotel.
In the afternoon they visited the President appointed by the military junta, Roberto Viola, at his home (at that time the President was the dictator Videla). Roger did not attend.
21:00 Interview at the Velez stadium for Channel 9, which would televise the concert the next day. 22:30 CONCERT The security coordinator, Jorge Fregonese:"When we were leaving the first concert in Vélez there were so many people that it could be dangerous for the band to leave in their cars (4 Ford Fairlanes), so I had an idea ... we emptied a police van that was in the place to protect ourselves from the masses and we messed with the gang, the security team, Paul Prenter, Peter Freestone, Joe Fanelli… we were like 17 guys in there. Freddie's comment was “I love this, we look like whores put in jail after be picked up by the police ”.March 1. Sunday In the afernoon, sounccheck

Day off. A playground, Italpark, which was closed, was opened for them. In Buenos Aires there was another park with the same name, better known, where Roger was also. Roger went to a karting track, which was on the outskirts (Constitución and Route 2) also open for him. Brian and John went down to the beach. Photos of Jorge Busetto. According to the Lesley-Ann Jones book, Freddie saw Peter Morgan on the promenade from his window with a friendly boy, got angry and when Peter returned to the room, he sent him back. Is it true? [...continued from previous post…] March 7. Saturday
Return to Buenos Aires. Dinner. Typical Argentine asado (barbecue), on the farm of the president of the Velez Club, Ricardo Petracca, in Parque Leloir, Ituzaingó, on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. March 8. Sunday 21.00 CONCERT
During the farewell concert, Freddie invited Diego Maradona to come on stage to present Another One Bites The Dust. The photo above was taken by Luis Vera who worked at Keyport (the beer company that sponsored the concerts) and since he was fond of photography, he was commissioned to take pictures of Queen in Buenos Aires. Maradona visited the group in the dressing room and some photos were taken. Dinner on the waterfront in front of the Río de la Plata at the restaurant "Los años locos"(The Crazy years). Freddie went with the shirt Maradona gave him. Freddie wore that shirt again in Munich, in the photo entering the studio. And in 1982 at their offices in Notting Hill Gate. Photographer Brian GriffinMiscellaneousThey did other activities in Buenos Aires, but I am not sure of the day they were done:
Roger visited the Italpark park. Freddie walked through the Japanese garden. Freddie's bodyguard says he liked it very much and gave him ideas for his London home garden. The book " Queen on Camera" was wrong in attributing the place to Rikugien Gardens in Tokyo. Stylist Miguel Romano cut Mercury's hair before the last show.
I went to see the concert on March 1. I can't remember if it was Monday the 2nd or Tuesday the 3rd of March, together with a friend from school we decided not to go to class and we went to miss the day at the zoo. And I couldn't believe when I saw Brian, his wife and their children walking by. We followed them throughout their entire journey, and we didn't dare to get close, they were with two bodyguards. Finally, I was encouraged and asked for an autograph, I gave him some candy for his son. Just when their visit was ending… Brian called us and gave us an invitation to each one that would help us to see them at the last concert on March 8th.. . I could not believe it!Information obtained from the magazine Pelo, Radiolandia 2000, Clarín Newspaper, La Capital newspaper (Mar del Plata), The Definitive Biography of Fredie Mercury by Lesley-Ann Jones, and different testimonies from different media on the web. I have found on Facebook a post from Laura Santander (RIP), an Argentine fan, information that has helped me complete and correct the data. Many photos that I have included I have found over many years, and I regret not having the author of them. If I have made a mistake, sorry in advance.Any data or image that you want to contribute will be welcome.

I can see Freddie's Argentinian T-shirt on stage is different to the one he wore backstage and back in Europe.

Thanks a lot! I can see Freddie's Argentinian T-shirt on stage is different to the one he wore backstage and back in Europe. That's right, well seen. The one Freddie wears at the concert is similar to the one Brian wears at the Rosario airport and at dinner on March 7th. This shirt had no brand. The one Freddie wears backstage is a gift from Maradona, and he received a Union Jack shirt that Brian wore, Roger's drumsticks, and the tie that Freddie wore.

And that's Brian's character in a nutshell - he was having his private family time and still took time to do something like that for a stranger. I hope you get a chance to tell him about it some day.
Great job with this thread. It's definitely as good as the Japan threads !!
Any chance you've got this shot in higher resolution ? First I've seen it.

Yes, it really has been one of the things that sticks in my memory. Luckily, I was able to see Brian again at Rio 85, and of course, he was super nice again. Freddie's photo is a screenshot of this interview with the photographer. In this link you have the interview where he is very excited remembering those days when he was able to photograph Queen. tn.com.ar/musica/hoy/la-historia-del-fotografo-que-registro-la-visita-de-queen-la-argentina_1024794/I'm going to update the tour post with date corrections, and I'll add other photos of Luis Vera from this video, and I'll put the one you ask for a little better.

The photo is from an article in a newspaper where they say that Maradona went on stage at Queen. Diego Maradona is a "friend" of the Queen group.
The last recital of the Queen group had special characteristics. Above all, because it was attended by Diego Armando Maradona - who even took the stage - and because the English group played their songs with the Argentina soccer team shirt on. When Maradona took the stage, he spoke briefly with Freddy Mercury (first voice and keyboards of the group) who referred to Diego calling him "my friend." -Diegou Mauradona, my friend ...- he said in imperfect Spanish. The group thus said goodbye to Argentina, after doing a series of recitals and having pocketed a whopping three million dollars (about 675 million old pesos). With that "folkloric" touch, Queen ended their visit that they will surely repeat, not only because of the succulent "bag" but also because of the public reception. (Google translator of the article).

These pictures of Freddie are in the book "QUEEN ON CAMERA, off guard". The caption says: Freddie in his hotel room. Although it implies that it is in Tokyo, I am almost certain that they are in the Sheraton hotel in Buenos Aires. Although it seems that Freddie is looking at his mobile, in those years they did not exist Would it be a calculator?

He's probably counting up the money they lost on that tour!

He's probably counting up the money they lost on that tour! Well, I would tell you that on the Argentina-Brazil tour they made money, in Venezuela they did fewer concerts than planned and they did not have the expected profit. In Mexico if it seems that they lost.

This photo is in Neal Preston's book. Although it does not bring information, I deduce that it is from the Rio de Janeiro-Buenos Aires flight, February 27, 1981. I think it is wrongly placed in the part of the tour of Venezuela and Mexico.

News clip with interesting statements from Roger. Where’s this article from? I remember reading a lot of these quotes in Queen In Their Own Words way back when but there wasn’t any attribution.
