John Deacon (The Opposition/The New Opposition/Art, 1965 - 1969; Deacon, November 1970)
September 25, 1965 (Clive Castledine's house; Leicester, England) Saturday Setlist: unknown
This is John's first show with The Opposition. The band were formed in the spring of 1965. The band's name began as The Opposition. In May 1966, they changed it to The New Opposition. On January 14, 1967, it changed back to the original name. Finally, on March 3, 1968, they changed it to Art. The members were John, Richard Young, Nigel Bullen, and Clive Castledine. John began by playing rhythm guitar, but soon changed to playing bass. They played rock music. All the setlists for these concerts are unknown, but apparently they often played Heart Full Of Soul. The Opposition played more concerts than listed on queenconcerts.com, since flyers exist. But they don't tell the year and sometimes, not even the date (I can't include them since they aren't shown).

Summer 1963 (unknown venue; Truro, England) N/A Setlist: unknown
This is an early (possibly first) show of "Beat Unlimited". The members were Roger, Mike Dudley, and David Dowding. The setlists for these shows are mostly unknown, but they did play "Wipe Out" and "The Rise and Fall of Flingel Bunt" (one known performance of "The Rise and Fall of Flingel Bunt" was at a party organized by the Liberal Association on December 17, 1964, at the City Hall at an unknown venue in England).

March 15, 1965 (City Hall; Truro, England) Monday at night Setlist: Shadows, Rolling Stones, and pre-Soul covers
800 people were at this show, since it was part of the Rock 'n' Roll Rhythm Championship of Cornwall. This is Roger's first show with "Johnny Quale and the Reaction". The members were Roger, John Grose (aka Johnny Quale), Graham Hawkins, Mike Dudley, Jim Craven, and John Snell. The band would usually play many genres: pop, ballads, and blues. Mike Dudley recalls John as a "pretty reasonable Elvis". He remembers how he had a vocal problem, so he'd have to drink glycerin and stuff like that. The band didn't win the championship; they got fourth place.

This is Roger's "first" show with The Reaction. They were originally called 'The Reactions' until March 1966, and were sometimes called 'The Creation'. The members of the band were Roger, Mike Dudley, Richard Penrose (joined in spring of 1966), John Snell (left in 1967), Mike Grose, Jim Craven (left in spring of 1966, joined back in summer of 1968), Roger Brokenshire (November 1965 - spring 1966), Geoff Daniel (spring 1966 - 1967), and Rick Thorning (joined in autumn of 1968). There is a known setlist from one of these shows, but it's unknown which show. The setlist was: Game Of Love, Hey Mama, Whatcha Gonna Do About It, Slow Down, Respect, I Got You, It's Gonna Work Out Fine, Land Of 1,000 Dances.

I find it remarkable that while Brian, John and Roger all did long musical apprenticeships of about 5 years, gigging regularly and honing their skills, Freddie, less than a year after stepping on stage as a rock singer for the 1st time (and playing what, 20 gigs?) was forming Queen.

And correct me if I'm wrong or forgot something, but Freddie was the only one who wasn't in the recording studio before Queen.

Great topic, thank you -
excuse me, please, if it is the wrong place to ask about it -
considering the concert dates, looks like Freddie joined forces with Brian and Roger in April, 1970, is it right? Does anyone know, was it in the beginning/middle/end of April? Can't remember where I found it in 25+ Queen fandom years, but I once saw the date as 04.04.1970 -
any info/ideas, anyone, please?
