I thought it might be fun to see what you guys think: Which cover of Bohemian Rhapsody do you think is worse, William Shatner's or Kanye West's? Or is there another bad cover that you think is worse? I'm sure there are plenty of other bad renditions out there. Out of those two though, I personally think Kanye's is much worse. Shatner's is ridiculous, it almost feels like a joke (and say what you will about the guy), but at least it is entertaining and I find it hilarious in a "so bad it's good" kind of way (especially with the epic voice crack at the "For MEEeeEeeE!" lol). I think Kanye's is just embarrassing and cringe-worthy, maybe even to the point of being a bit insulting, I mean the audience sounds much better than him for crying out loud lol!

I do not watch/listen to covers unless I have an actual reason to, but Bad News' version (yes, I know they're a spoof band but still) is... quite painful to listen to.

Surely Rolf's has to be the worst as the royalties go to a paedophile?

Surely Rolf's has to be the worst as the royalties go to a paedophile? Only on any new sales, of which I doubt there will be many. Is it even available in any way that creates an income for Rolf?

No Rolf Harris? No Braids? No Frank Sidebottom? Half-arsed poll.. Frank Sidebottom's [aka Chris Sievey R.I.P] should NOT be in any "Worst Of" poll. the guy was a genius. If you've never heard Born In Timperley, Timperley Sunset or J'Taime Wild Thing In Timperley, then I'm afraid you've not lived! and he's possibly responsible for one of the finest/funniest christmas tunes ever: OH BLIMEY! IT'S CHRISTMAS Oh Rudolph the red nose reindeer, Had a very very shiny nose, He works for Father Christmas, Who's very fat and wears red clothes. I've not done my Christmas shopping yet, Cos the social have stopped my dole!

It used to be on spotify, I don't know if it still is, I assume the royalties from that will be similar to radio airplay. Instead of assuming, how about some actual research? Spotify pays very low rates, and the writers and publishers get their share as well as the performer. www.royaltyexchange.com/blog/mechanical-royalties#sthash.m9JyEoI5.dpbsAssuming that 1000 people a month stream the ROlf Harris version of Bo Rhap, his income would be about £5 sterling a year - which doesn't buy a whole lot of paint. And I'd argue that 100 streams a year is a more likely figure. While you're making value judgements on who should make money from music....The Beatles, The Stones, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Oasis, Status Quo and hundreds more - all on drugs. Stones, Zep, Jerry Lee Lewis - also documented into under age girls (alongside mahy other bands). Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Peter Sarstedt - all with songs about underage girls. You should also avoid films by Woody Allen & Roman Polanski (and prob by extension any actor that worked with the latter since 1980). To be clear, paedophiles should not be encouraged, or allowed to get away with acting on their impulses. But they're not contagious - you can't catch it by listening to one sing....

And I'd argue that 100 streams a year is a more likely figure. Because, and this might surprise you, this is a light hearted thread about the "Worst" version of Bohemian Rhaposdy, not an in depth look at spotify royalty streams.
I never said it did, I never even tried to stop people listening, I gave an opinion of what is the worst version and the reason. Which I'm sure even you can agree (Even in one of you most argumentative moods) is what the OP asked for.
Where have I done this? Perhaps you can point out where in my two one line replies i have made "value judgements on who should make money from music" Because if, for any reason, you've made this little bit of information up to give yourself something to argue about, it makes you look like a total arsehole. That's a big IF of course because I'm sure you've pulled the information from somewhere... So once again: Surely Rolf's has to be the worst as the royalties go to a paedophile? (You'll notice that this is a fact, he does get royalties from his version) Maybe you can pull together your usual pedantic reply into something resembling a coherent reason why YOU think it's not the worst and what version you think is?

The Bad News version is great when you listen to it the way you should listen te it: As one big joke. People who take that version seriously don't understand what the intention of that cover was.
A really bad BoRhap cover IMO is Magic Affair's one. Really dumb eurodance crap, which was ment to be serious.
I don't consider Kanye's version a cover, it's just a bad attempt of trying something live.
When talking about great covers of BoRhap: take a listen at Valensia's version, it really is great. Biggest complain about it is that it sounds too similar to the Queen version.

People who take that version seriously don't understand what the intention of that cover was. exactly. we need to keep things in context - when making comparisons. remember - this brilliant "rock mockumentary" also brought us the "ghost of Jimi Hendrix" giving Vim Fuego the lyrics to his new song " Imogen" [Imagine]. Bad News / More Bad News - inspired brilliance. A really bad BoRhap cover IMO is Magic Affair's one. Really dumb eurodance crap, which was ment to be serious. yep. right down there (in the gutter) with the club dance mix of Hotel CaliforniaI don't consider Kanye's version a cover, it's just a bad attempt of trying something live. get what you mean. but it's still (in reality) a cover.

emrabt. You are judging the quality of a musical performance based on the personal life of the performer... " Rolf is the worst as a paedophile gets royalties from it". Hence my response ... 1. I doubt he gets enough for it to be a significant element of the discussion, 2. It diverts from the musical discussion. No offence was intended, and I accept that I took your tangent further than was maybe useful to your lighthearted "paedos should be bankrupt" post...

No offence was intended, and I accept that I took your tangent further than was maybe useful to your lighthearted "paedos should be bankrupt" post... That wasn't my post. 1) Please can you once again point out where I have stated he shouldn't get royalties for his performance? You made this claim twice now. I said it was the worst because the money goes to him. That's not the same thing, it also a factual statement. I've not mentioned anywhere that my opinion is based on musical performance. It's the worst because money is sent to a horrible person. I would think being the only version we know of* that supports, in part, someone who has done horrid acts towards children would be a qualifier of the term "Worst". *I have a suspicion Sebastian will pop on to inform me there may be a Glitter Band version out there.

Let's keep things friendly, folks. I don't really think any of us want to be writing about, or reading about, or indeed, even thinking about the despicable Rolf Harris.

There's also that "G4" version from a few years ago which edited the song down to a radio friendly 3ish minutes.
Proverbially gutting a masterpiece in half has to detract a few points surely?

What does everyone think of this Rick Wakeman version?
Personally, I think it's way too fast and it sounds like he's rushed through it.

Omg, that's hilarous XD but then again I think you could sing any song in Klingon and it would feel silly. These guys seem like they can sing pretty well though, it's just that Klingon was intentionally made to sound harsh/rough
