The "Queen Live at Rainbow '74" concert has many inconsistencies when playing the video / DVD / BlueRay, as well as on CD. I have studied the footage a lot and I want to share what I know and that we are probably the closest to knowing what nights the songs are ... 1. Important information before starting One of the simplest things to determine which night the footage corresponds would be ... a) Roger Taylor's clothes (Second Night) (First Night)
Parts of the footage may be patched for some unknown reasons but the main songs that appear most of the video, logically come from that night. Roger's clothes can help us knowing the cuts like "Drum Solo" from "Keep Yourself alive" b) The big Queen Logo behind the stage and camera positions (Queen big logo and frontal and balcony camera shotting/zooming near to Freddie, Brian Or Deacon) (Second Night, front camera is missing and balcony camera shots almost all the stage without zooming to Freddie, Rarely the camera focus on Freddie [Modern times rock n' roll and Jailhouse Rock is a example] Queen Logo is missing too) c) External Sources A Recording from a cassette was recognized as First Night, but this doesn't help to much (Later in the post i explain why). Also we have "Stormtroopers In Stilettos" Exhibition recording, theres no audio in the footage but it is an excellent help. The 35mm Roll cinema can help us much too! 2. The Show
A) Procession: Nothing is known about whether it is mixed with the first and second night or definitely one night, the footage only shows Taylor with the clothes of the second night.
B) Now I'm Here This is fully confirmed that it came from the second night, here the proof.
B-a) Using the guide I mentioned above can help a lot
B-b) "Stormtroopers In Stilettos" Exhibition A guy recorded the footage from a mini documentary that was shown at the exhibition. (Me and Raseraa we tried to sync the audio with the recording but don't fit with the song) (How you can see Raseraa slow down a part from the video, this confirms that the audio and video come from the second night. And at the end of the songs, Roger end it with a drum solo, the video is clearly patched with the first night (Probably the lights was taken off during him drum solo)
After that, the speech comes completely it from first night C) Ogre Battle After Freddie says "We really have! Have you miss us?" probably cuts more speech or patched, then says "It's time for Ogre Battle" In the song there a lot of patches from Second Night, hardely this song is mixed with both nights So this unclear. ======================================================================= (This 2 last images is clearly example from patches [First the left camera focus on brian, after the right camera focus again to Brian again, but Brian magically appears in to the center stage]) D) Father to Son Before start the song, The speech of Freddie from "The black fingered nails" is totaly from the First night (Not like the information in queenlive.ca), Why?
D-a) The Classic guide camera
After the speech, Freddie says "Ok, this one is called Father to Son", this came from second night and part of the song too, also is cut the audio and change the camera position With this we can help us with the VHS and the 35mm Roll Cinema In this releases Father to Son cuts to the "Do do do do" Part, in the 2014 release they didn't cut the song but fused with the first night(Video and probably the audio too) And after that we can see how the first night fade to the second night (In the "Do do do do" part) After the rock section, changes quickly to the first night (It should be noted that at the launch of the VHS and the 35mm film reel these parts were cut) After the reprise ends with the first night... E) White Queen In the Speech Freddie Says "So how hands chills there?" (First Night) after they cut to the second night and says "This is from Queen II, written by Brian May, White Queen". Then the songs starts without patches, incredible to believe, so probably this song is from Second Night Tomorrow i will continue with this bullshit serie, so i want ear your own opinion or changes for the post so, see'ya...

F) Flick of The Wrist Nothing to see here, is like White Queen, untouched footage from audio an video, cames it from First Night G) In The Lap Of The Gods Freddie speech becomes from first night, after saying "One, Two, Three Four!" the footage changes quickly from night In the part from Roger Falsettos, is out of sync, They tried to patched with the First night, so we can deduce some part from the video cames from the second night! H) Killer Queen The band start clicking his own hands, in the video changes to the first night then, continue to the second night We have EXTRA footage, in the Documentary "Days of our lives" Killer Queen from first night looks more darker The 35mm Film can help us a lot here in the part "A building from remedy" changes to first night, in the roll keep with the second night after in the chorus "She a Killer Queen" changes again to the first night, probably the audio cames from the second night I) The March of the Black Queen and Bring Back That Leroy Brown Both have the sames effects from anothers one, have snippets from the first night, clearly the medley cames from second night J) Son and Daugther/Guitar Solo/ Reprise Freddies fades like after Keep yourself alive again When start singing "I want you! So Watch-out", changes again the camera position from far to near. Then continues with footage from the second night, probably the audio too, is a merge from both nights because the syncronitation with the audio is very well In "What do you for loving, is only just began? yeah" changes from the second night, to the first one The footage for first night still intact in a part then changes again from first night to the second one Also in "I travel around the world i found" in the VHS version is near to John and gets on top of him
J-a) Guitar Solo
Quickly after Freddie Leave the stage changed the night The guitar solo is intacted (i suppose) so let's move on in the reprise J-b) Reprise Roger joins to Brian but the nights changes FUCKING again Then the only change is the end of the song (The Queen logo appears behind roger)
K) Keep Yourself Alive Freddies fades before saying "Featuring Brian May on Guitah!" M) Seven Seas of Rhye This was shown on Seven Seas of Rhye 2011 video, how i said, is a little bit more darker the first night, so we can deduce is from first night Facing the Cassette N) Stone Cold Crazy If i tell you, Stone cold crazy comes to the second night, you take my clearly how a crazy person but no. Helping with the cassette Fred says "We'd like to do some rock and roll. How do you feel about that? Good, you've gotta join in. This is the last time." then the audio cuts to the Second night but now explain why M-a) The same 2014 release In a part we can see after Freddie says "You like my cloves?" cuts with "I tell you what", but i saw Freddie Speech was more larger and probably cames from the cassette audio And yes, the camera position helps in this time The Only real footage from the first night becomes from "Days of our lives Extra" Edit: 05/11/2020 More information in Son and Daguther

Ñ) Liar Well, we have 2 footage, one historic but it does not contribute anything and the Oficial Release 2014
Nothing to see at the speech, cames from first night, then Fred introduces LIAR In the beginning at the first instrumental part, in a fragment change from night, probably how a i said, QPL take the VHS how base, a shitty base And another proof, what the video and probably (not sure) the audio cames from the second night, THE ROGER CLOTHES So this parts cames from the second night (Probably before the powercut) And a cut with a Fred Raising the mic to the first night Continues probably untouched the first night in that part, after the 4 Liars part changes from first night to second night (And we see, Freddie with MAGIC appears in the center in the stage) And moments from guitar solo Freddie Says "Go" with a high entusiasum, in the cassette is flat and more shorter, Chinwonder2 Talk about this in her series "Live V.S Over dubs" And in the video changes completaly from night The guitar the solo is cutted, Chinwonder2 again, know this and publish in her series "Live v.s Overdubs" In the "Listen!" Part, in the VHS and 35mm Roll Cinema is changed In the VHS/35mm Freddie moves her arm In the 2014 Relase stand still In the 2014 changes the audio night, in "All Day long" part we can see Brian trying to play again her guitar, but a probably a powercut attack And sounds without the guitar, so the reprise comes definitely from Second Night And probably First Night take, in the 2014 we can see the left camera focus on Brian face Ñ-a)Extra, Powercut 20/11/1974
Probably this part cames after this part from the 2014, probably the band tried to sing again the part from powercut O) In the Lap of The Gods... Revisted This a big archivement, WE HAVE BOTH NIGHT FOOTAGE IN THE NIGHT In the 2014 cames from First Night with the help of the position of cameras And we can see how vanish in the obscurity like the VHS version and 1992 VHS or 35mm Cames from Second Night
in Ryan Newton video "Queen - Live in London (November 20th, 1974)" in her description says "One of the songs we do know that comes the second night is In the Lap of the Gods Revisited, as, according to the account of someone who saw the screening of the full first night at the 2011 convention, Freddie didn't use falsetto on the first show, so the version from the album must be, at least in part, from the second night, and I have no reason to suspect that it's anything more than that. It's possible it pulls overdubs from the first night, but that's likely minimal" So basically cames from second night And in the part "Thank you! Goodnight everybody" change from night from a bit time In the VHS/35mm Roll this doesn't appears
O-a) in the part before the encore we see the audiencie clapping and move like the song before mentioned but we unknow what night comes P) Big Spender
This actually more hard to decipher, Roger remove her shirt, but we have... THE HOLY QUEEN LOGO, so cames from first Night Q) Modern Times Rock n' Roll This very obviusly, cames from second night, checking the no existent logo here and the photos taken in the First Night (First Night Photo) ------------------ (Second Night) And probably this photo cames from this part of the song R) Jailhouse Rock Only i can see is the powercut, the song is untouched so is from second night in the part "Dancing Dancing", we can see Brian try to play the guitar but there's no guitar sound You maybe think, but Emmanuel, probably Brian stop to play that guitah! Nope, in anothers concert before and after, Brian Always touch the guitar
S) God Save the Queen The only proof is when Roger destroys his drums kits.
So here's some images with the logo proof So i love if anyone want to make a video about this, just give credits of my channel and in my post! Thanks for the greats opinions! i see you in another occasion, So dear friends, goodbye!

Amazing work!!!
Can anyone shed more light on how they went about editing / selecting from what night for the the 2014 release?
Suppose this means, in theory, that both nights could have been released?

Great topic. I noticed that the intro speech for ITLOTG...R on the 1992 VHS and the 2014 release are different. Brian mentions 'Young Merc' on the original release while its 'Young Freddie' on the later release.

I seem to remember somebody mentioned that one of the nights has damaged audio, so they didn't release both shows and had to edit them together to make one full show. Was it Rhys Thomas? I can't remember. It's very dissapointing if you ask me.

But to be clear - this is just the video you're speaking of, not necessarily the audio, right ?
It's hard to sort out the latter with only three songs existing from the second night aside from the official releases.

I talk about both, audio and video The audio and video don't necessarily match, though.
It may be easy to spot the differences in the video, but it's pretty well impossible to know which night the audio is from at any given time. Even the three songs from the first night that leaked out in the 1990s are overdubbed.

Stone Cold Crazy the part in the speech is cut, and the VHS Release and the 35mm Roll Film is synchronized with the video, is very obvius.

Sure, but plenty of other parts aren't nearly as obvious. Without a raw audio reference, it's impossible to know which nights the audio is from.

UPDATE 05/11/2020 (New or old source lol)
So... in SISE (Stormtroopers In Stilettos Exhibition) i was re-searching things for a new proyect for restore and compile all avaible footage (Similar work of Bul) but i found this in my search
(Extra Ogre Battle) Few seconds it's shown in the QUEEN II mini documentary from the exhibition, some alternate takes or probably the first night in different shoots, this shoot is kinda unknow where night it's
(Extra Flick of the Wrist) Some Alt takes, nothing really matters here, only confirm in the 2014 is untouched
(Extra In the Lap of The Gods) This clearly another Alt take from the speech, and doesn't change the night in "One, two, three, four!"
(Extra The March Of Black Queen) Just another shoot
