Set aside the lyrics, and the song is actually a fun jam. I guess it was supposed to be light take on a serious issue, but anything serious shouldn't be taken lightly. And the line that is the worst is "nobody cares." Tell that to someone who's depressed and they're liable to pull the trigger right then and there. Ah well, Freddie wasn't perfect. We already knew that. Yeah I definitely agree with all of that.

My worst Queen songs would include Body Language and AOBTD.

Any particular reason for AOBTD?

As I get older I find I can stomach most of the Queen songs I didn't like in my youth (Party, Khashoggi's Ship, My Baby Does Me, Don't Lose Your Head, etc.) but I still cannot find a single redeeming quality about Body Language.

I like Body Language...the slithering groove and sparse atmospherics. I would rather listen to it than say...Dancer or Invisible Man.

Any particular reason for AOBTD? For one thing, I don't like the guitar in the song (what guitar there is).

According to David Minns, Don't Try Suicide was written as a mockery to Minns' attempt of suicide once they had a huge fight. Freddie was being very mean here and the message was extremely irresponsible for a larger audience. But I still like the overall sound of it, particularly vocal and bass, as long as I can ignore the lyrics, which is not particularly difficult for someone not from an English-speaking country like myself.

You used to like Cool Cat, but you name Brighton Rock and The Prophet's Song as among the worst (and nothing from Hot Space except Cool Cat)?
I really don't understand some Queen fans' taste...

I've read that Minn's said he thought it was about him but it would be wholly out of character for Freddie to take a swipe at someone like that in a band song. (although there's a good argument to be made about John/Brian & Back Chat). They were also recording at Musicland in Munich and the building it is in was known as a place for people jumping off. Maybe both situations contributed to him writing a song like that. Not something an artist would likely get away with now despite it being a very catchy song.

I'll raise you Body Language, White man and Sweet Lady Body Language, I've made it part of my personal mission in life to defend this song, it's just soooo Freddie and his humor. A song that worked best in its time and a rather unfortunate video that placed it a bit too firmly in the gay scene. Fortunately most Americans didn't get to see the video until years later and it ended up doing well in the charts here. Thankfully everyone didn't have a recording device in their pocket then because nothing could get a college bar riled up like that song and during the HS live show this song got the crowd going as well.

My least favorite is 'Thank God It's Christmas'. Surprised no-one else has mentioned it!
Strangely, I do like both 'Delilah' AND 'Body Language'!

TGIC has always felt very bland for a Queen song. I can enjoy it, but it's way at the bottom. And like you, I really enjoy Delilah and Body Language.

TGIC doesn’t go anywhere, it sounds entirely programmed, and even Freddie doesn’t convince. I Dream of Christmas is infinitely better, despite Anita’s vocal.

I'm amazed Thank God It's Christmas hasn't been given a remix / reimagining recently given all the old rope we've been sold. This might actually benefit from Roger and Brian taking a new look at the tapes. Stick some gospel singers over the outro and add some piano bits and you might have the christmas classic it should've been.

I would even take a guitar solo or orchestrations, SOMETHING from the Red Special (apart from a few jangly chords towards the end) to make it sound like a Queen song.

I think Party is their worst opening song. Pain and Pleasure and Don't lose your head from the Magic album. Dancer and Body Language, Calling All Girls. Fun It, Loser In The End. Delilah,

Mhm, quite difficult. But I would say Sweet Lady, Fun It, Coming Soon, Calling All Girls (album) and...mhm I don't have others in mind.

What's wrong with Khashoggi's Ship? That's a great rocker!
