All these amateur upscales/restorations look unnatural and only clog up the space. Hammersmith can't look any better than it already is

Now now, whoever did this did an amazing job in making Freddie look 4 years younger.

And sadly I have fixed the thread's title.

Hammersmith is an interesting example, how one concert changes over the years. When I first "recorded" it late night from the "British Forces Broadcasting Service" in the early 80s, it had a wide but relatively dry sound with a strong seperation of piano on the left and guitar on the right - as it was on stage. But it's unlikely that this seperation was also on the PA in the building. Years later the BBC completely remixed it and licensed it to radio stations all over Europe. Suddenly guitar and piano were centered, even Freddie's positions in "Now I'm here" differed a lot. But the room still sounded quite dry.
And when it was released officially, the same concert was suddenly in a "big concert arena" with sometimes different audience reactions.
They obviously put a lot of work into making it sound like that, but to this day I can't warm up to that. I still prefer both dry BBC mixes, they had a more "intimate" sound. But what was it like being there? Have there ever been reports from people who were there in the building? Which mix comes closest to the real thing?

By the time anyone that was there heard it back, they'd probably been to dozens of other concerts over a number of years.
Anything anyone said would be very far from objective.
Your better bet would be an audience tape, but even then you probably won't know where the taper was in the room, and you have the limiting factors of the equipment they used and the people making noise around them.

I'd like to contradict in this case. I was a regular concert goer, two concerts a week was not unusual. (For the younger readers: Ticket prices in the 70s, 80s and early 90s were in the range of the price for a vinyl album) So I knew all the places and what they sounded like. Each venue had it's characteristics.
And to this day I can tell you if a band played too loud, badly or had a fantastic sound. So maybe I expect too much, when asking this, but me personally I have a good memory for sound. And I don't think that I'm that "special"....there must be someone else...
