Queen II all the way

Queen albums, not very often these days, I'm afraid. The last time I listened to a full Queen album was last year, and then it was the Flash Gordon soundtrack. Though not long before that, I did listen everything between ANATO to The Game, but this sort of a thing happens very rarely nowadays, because the entire Queen catalogue is so deeply etched into my mind from my youth, I don't really need to listen to them anymore, I just play them out in my head when I feel like it. The exception to this is the original Barcelona album, which of course isn't exactly a Queen album, but I like to have that one on my turntable more often than any of the usual Queen albums.
Otherwise, when I do listen to music, it's mostly full albums whenever possible. I've been on a heavy diet of Yumi Matsutoya for the last 3 years, and some of her albums have been on my CD player quite often. Also, Tears For Fears' Big Chair and Seeds of Love are very often on my turntable, as are Zappa's 200 Motels, Genesis' Lamb Lies Down on Broadway and Selling England by the Pound, Led Zep's III and Presence, and some random Finnish albums. When I do listen to music on "extracted tracks" basis, it's 99% of time for learning new songs for work.

Probably the last Queen album I listened to all the way through was News Of The World when the boxset was released. I dont listen to full albums by Queen much anymore.
The last full albums I listened to recently was Fish's "Weltschmerz" and Mary Chapin Carpenter's "Dirt and The Stars". Both very different to Queen and both are very good in their own right, but then I never do stick to the one style of music.

You don’t want to listen to Queen only, because you’ll eventually get annoyed and want to listen to something else. You give Queen’s music the most respect if you listen to it without your opinion being chanced because of it. I only listen to Queen albums if I’m in the mood for it, because I already know they’re great and don’t want that idea to be chanced by a bad choice of moment for listening to it.

Sticking to the one style has never interested me even when I was growing up back in the day. Groups I listened to where Queen, Status Quo, Deep Purple, Genesis, Toyah, OMD, Kraftwerk but in my house you would have also heard Bing Crosby (thanks to my dad), Gilbert O'Sullivan (My older sister ran his fan club for a while), ABBA. And these are just the ones I can remember lol

I also listen to Daniel Lohues, but he must be unknown to non-Dutch people. Try out ‘Niks Mooiers As Dat’, you’ll love it, it means ‘Nothing more beautiful than that’, is sung in dialect, and obviously inspired by Bruce Springsteen.

I have just listened to that song you recommended. It is very Springsteen inspired and not bad at all - even though I dont have a clue what he is singing about lol. Another band I got into is one you may have heard of since they are Dutch is The Common Linnets. I only got into them after seeing them appear in The Eurovision Song Contest on TV which a Facebook friend of mine posted me a link. I have enjoyed what they have done so far.

Mr Mercury, great you liked it! Should I give you some more titles? I haven't listened to The Common Linnets, although I like Waylon's submission at the Eurovision 2018, 'Outlaw In 'Em'.

Paul's Flaming Pie is getting three play-thrus 3 mornings a week currently, while I'm working from home. It's such a perfect album. what a combination, Paul McCartney, Richard Starkey, Jeff Lynne and Steve Miller. There's some great memory-lane tunes there and a couple of (very non-gushy) Linda songs (she was very ill with cancer at the time. The album itself has a contentment and maturity to it - Paul's not being sentimental, rather he's being thankful for his life. I really can't believe this is 23 years ago! I'd also addto the list three Eagles LPs, one by Rush, a couple each by Bowie, Elton & Prince, CSN, ELO, Rainbow and Zep...and the small matter of Battle Born by the Killers. enjoy: such a nicely-shot video beautiful reminiscing and as for Gordon Lightfoot. yes. in many ways he was as great a story-teller as Dylan. my own favourite of his based on a real shipwreck. - it gets better with age:

BrƎИsꓘi you've chosen very great songs there! I always had a soft spot for The Song We Were Singing, although I don't regularly listen to Beautiful Night. It's one hell of a song, but I don't know, it just doesn't really appeal to me. Edmund Fitzgerald also doesn't appeal to me as a banger, I have songs by him which I enjoy more: If You Could Read My Mind(the album, but especially the title song and Minstrel Of The Dawn), Sundown(the album), and Blackberry Wine!

Mr Mercury , ‘Hoe Diep de Wortels OK Gaon’(however deep the roots), ‘Kom Nou Mar Naor Huus’(Come back home), and ‘Elk Mens Die Hef Zich ‘N Kruus Te Dragen’(everybody’s got his own cross to bear). He also was in a band called ‘Skik’, and one of their songs I like the most is ‘’T Giet Zoas ‘T Giet’(It goes as it goes) Edit: ‘De Zunne En De Maon’(the sun and the moon) is great too, about life goes on, eventually even the sun and the moon will stop too, so that’s what cheers him up. A song that’s a little different is ‘Duusternis’(Darkness), about his mother who recently passed away.

The Song We Were Singing - is not just about the Beatles - it's a reminisce on every musician/artist/person Paul had anything to do with from the late 50s until around 67. it's about the great times (late at night) and ultimately - how they all (of that era) let the music do the talking. Beautiful Night is stunning. put the whole thing in context and it should really blow your mind. The song itself has its origins in '86, but by '96 Linda is unwell and Paul revisits the song. it's his last great tribute to their love (in her lifetime). it's also the last time she appeared in a music video. and, as anyone who has ever lost anyone to that horrible disease, cancer (i have; - my father and brother) - these lyrics are so poignant: Things can go wrong, things can go right Things can go bump, in the dead of the night So let me be there, let me be there Let me be there with you in the dead of the nightcan you imagine how he felt actually recording those lines? and how many meanings can you interpret in those last two lines? i've got FOUR different meanings...and i'm not even trying. seriously, it's a stunning song (IMO) - on every level.

I almost always listen to album from A to Z. Even when listening to them digitally these days. I can also easily put them on repeat if needed. Though there are days where I maybe put an artist on shuffle or my whole library. But that is how I grew up I guess. Am 41 now. Back then, when I was young, we all..........

I'm much the same - i've an old Archos 320gb media player - which (along with my car music player) has a nice "shuffle within folder" facility. So on both, I've loads of stuff filed by albums, folders etc...but I've one folder with 600+ songs i'd never switch off - so the shuffle mode is really cool. flew to Jamaica two years ago with the Archos on "shuffle within folder" and never touched the controls to skip a tune.

I listen to music during a big portion of my working day and use this to listen to complete albums most of the time. Just today I listened to News of the World.

I listen to albums quite a lot. When putting on music on myself at home, so no radio as background music, but physically putting on music, it's always an album in full. With roughly 450 albums on CD and even more in digital, there is a lot to choose from. It's not always Queen or related. Last Queen albums I put on and listened to were 'Sheer Heart Attack' and 'News of the World' while making a lasagna together with my son. That's about 4 weeks ago...

After a few years of shuffles on the walk to work or playlisting BANGERS it's been nice to spend time listening to albums in sequence. Has been great fun over the years joining up medley tracks back into their correct sequence to avoid jarring shuffle errors. 'Drum Solo (0.18)' FFS guys.

Queen II is my favourite Queen album by a country mile. But to truly appreciate it, it needs to be given proper listening time and real attention. No disruptions, no nothing...just Queen II time.
As I rarely get this opportunity, The Game is probably the album I listen to the most. It's an easy listen, and a bloody good one at that.

It's usually the only way I want to listen to Queen.
Especially the 70s albums...I play them beginning to end with no skipping tracks. Their 70s albums are THAT good to me.

I'll play a full record here and there but that's usually when I'm busy in the kitchen (the record player is near there). Dollar sales at the record store lead to great listens I may not have hear if they weren't so cheap. Most of the rest of the time, I prefer listening to everything I have in iTunes (yeah, I still use that) on shuffle (yeah, I LOVE it when "Yeah" catches me off guard!). It's way too fun to be surprised by what's coming next - like others have said. Also, thanks to iTunes, I can obsess over when the last time a song was played. If I think it's been a while, I can run and check...I might have issues... The last little while, I've been listening to whole Queen albums. There's something about sitting still and having the music loud enough to drown everything else out. The Game and ANATO surround mixes are perfect for it.

Been listening to albums more often now, thanks to the pandemic. I used to go to work by subway, and I'd feel very uncomfortable not listening to what's going on around me, and at work itself it was really annoying how I'd often have to pause to talk to someone, so I'd just stick with random songs. I used to listen to live albums pretty often when travelling by car on weekends. Nowadays I listen to a couple of albums nearly everyday while working from home, and I've gone back to listening to studio albums as well I guess that's half the reason why I'm somewhat more active here than I used to be on Queenzone. Not only this place is better, I've also had the first opportunity in over a decade to actually enjoy being a "regular" Queen fan.

Have just recently cleaned all my vinyl, and ended up listening to every Queen LP in order (live and comps too), and in full, over the past 4 days. Got to admit, I really enjoyed it. Great to potter around to using the speakers, and magic with a pair of headphones on when wanting to listen in finer detail. It's been a while since I did that.
