Sunday 18th October 2020 9pm | Channel 5 (UK) | Queen: The Band That Rocked The World
Not sure if it's been on before, but looks potentially interesting. Doesn't say it's a repeat in the TV guide and mentions clips from the Bo Rhap film so must be quite recent.

It says that the show is about "Queen's career highlights from Top of the Pops to Live Aid!"
Maybe they will show some TOTP stuff?

I wouldn't be too excited, this is likely to be a compilation of clips with a voice over telling you things that either a) you already knew, or b) that you know are wrong

yes. agreed. these rockumentaries rarely play anything without commentary - and certainly never in entirety.

I’m always dubious of any Queen documentaries on Channel 5. I have a feeling it will be a mish mash of clips from other documentaries along with people who knew the band or music journalists talking about them . I can’t see it being anything groundbreaking

I wish there was a real documentary about their music. Outtakes, analizes of Freddies voice. Brians guitar analized. Good company. All dead all dead or so. Johns playing.. the populair rifs.. but also bicycle race and radio gaga.. rogers drumming explained.. A documentary which explains to the rest of the world how absolutely amazing queen really are. They still dont know.

I really wouldn't expect much from the C5 Queen documentaries, they have made a load since the movie, and they are all pretty similar. Expect the same faces, Gambiccini, Freestone, Cleo Roccos, possibly Geldof. No insight, nothing new, just the usual talking heads with a running commentary.

I'm sure this has been on already. Yes spot on . I can’t watch them as they wind me up . It’s just channel 5 trying to cash in on their resurgence. The one they made back in 2016 was awful

Bet you a tenner this docu has gambacinni saying "freddie threw his arms out and said fuck it, im doing everything with everyone". He seems to be using the same quote in every documentary in which he appears in. Pretty sure Freddie barely knew him.

Also on TV next week, Sky Arts is broadcasting an hour of Milton Keynes 1982 on Monday night. Not sure if it will be the original 'unfixed' TV broadcast.

Just watched over an hour of this and so far it is just another talking heads style documentary with Bob Harris, Peter Freestone, Peter Hince, Kerry Ellis, Nina Myskov, Peter Straker, Brix Smith. The documentary is Freddie heavy to be honest. It has nothing in it that Queen fans dont already know or have seen before. At least it is passing a couple of hours.

Annoyingly when talking about them breaking big in the States, they showed the Saturday Night Live appearance which was to promote the forthcoming Hot Space album and tour in 1982.
The no. 1's Crazy Little Thing.. and AOBTD were a couple of years earler.

Actually thought this was not a bad doc. It was always going to be a bit light and frothy but I thought the format was a good one, focusing completely on one subject at a time (including the film and musical).
Interesting that they avoided (were unable to use?) any band talking heads at all.
Was a bit perturbed by some of the terrible quality live footage, from Snow DVDs I think. Must be a legal grey area, using that stuff.

Practically every other week! There is an HD version of the channel too. It'll be the short version originally shown on Channel 4 as a Tube' special back in the early 80's and repeated many times since. Contains the great live version of Somebody to Love. A track inexplicably cut from the Magic Tour. Would have loved to hear it at Knebworth, IMO one their best ever live songs.

I quite enjoyed it. That was mostly stoked by copious amount of vodka and nothing else worth watching at the time. Usual participants, but where was Gambuccini? He didn't get to say his killer line

It may well do . He said that he didn’t know when it was due for release . I’m looking forward to it as the BBC aren’t known for documentaries like the ones Channel 5 churn out .
