Well mine arrived today and I can confirm it’s a beautiful book . It’s very heavy but it does have 302 pages . It’s nice to read Neal’s observations from the first time of meeting and working with them . He seems a truly good guy but I am surprised he didn’t seem to gel with Freddie so much outside of his job . I guess I can understand why Neal and Brian get on so well and that probably explains it . Anyway I’m very pleased I purchased it , I’d highly recommend.

Mine arrived today and while I haven't had time to really get into it, on first glance, it's gorgeous. I'm a fan of photography books anyway, but this one more than met my expectations. It is wonderful to have all of the Preston photos in one place, meaning I can clean out the photo files on my computer. I'm most looking forward to the backstage photos that I have not seen before. It's a great heavy book, and something I'd recommend to all.

Hope my book will arrive very soon....
katydyd5: I recommend you not to clean forever photos from your computer, but to share them here for a while. Probably someone will find something useful.

Just spent a bit more time with the Preston book and it truly is wonderful. The actual quality of the paper it's printed on only adds to the value for me. This is a treasure I will return to often. Reading through the lists of cities where concerts occurred allows me once again to kick myself for not paying attention at the time. So close so many times......................

Worth every penny. I finished with the book last night and really enjoyed reading Neal's reflections. There's a lot of heart and soul with this book. I was overjoyed to see so many images of the band that I'd never seen before. It'll sit proudly on my coffee table and will serve as a nice distraction from the stresses of life. I love it!

I have seen in the images of the book, that the photos do not have added information. Maybe, I don't know if it's crazy, we could provide information. For example, Book page number, place and date of photo. It's silly, right?

On one of the pages in the back, there is a page with notes on some of the photos (i.e. "picture on page 65 was taken at this place, and these are the people in the photo") but it doesn't have that many notes, just for some of the pictures. Yeah, I agree it would have been nice to have more notes, but there were some at least.

But if we can complete the information in the forum, that would be fine.

You can put the picture into a website like imgur.com. Then you can insert the link for it using the "Insert Image" button. (picture posted by The Real Wizard in the "Queen in Pictures" thread)

I got this book today as a present from my dear wife. I don't have many books on Queen, for I was always so involved with their music that I spent very little time and money on Queen books and pictures... Nor CDs, for that matter, as I'm a vinyl guy. This book is amazing, in my humble opinion. I will share a few thoughts for those who are interested in getting it, or just hearing some info. There are some nice "tech" details with the book. The golden letters and logo crest on the hard cover are embossed into the cardboard (pressed in) - as well as the gold letters (Preston's own few words) on the back cover. The cover is glossy, but takes no fingerprints. Nor do the pages, which is very nice! Embossing looks beautiful and gives it a very distinct finish. As the guys already mentioned, it is very heavy because the paper is very thick and high quality. Obviously the prints are made from original film rolls, so resolutions and image quality is in my opinion impeccable. I am not an extremely-hard-core-Queen-enthusiast as some of the respectable gentlemen on this forum, but I can say that I have seen many Queen pictures in the last 30 or so years. This books offers very little of those, as most of the pics in the book are new to me. And mind you, very beautiful. Made me think that some of the best Preston photos were not widely used. Preston was exatcly as Brian described in the foreword, the right guy in the right place in the right time. His hand/eye so skillfully take the right moment to frame the shot and press the shutter. A lot of times he uses the reflections artistically. His wide angles capture the impresiveness of tour productions and his gonzo-style photos in the streets and backstages make you think you are there with the boys living the tour life. The crew shot with all those guys that made the tour work is one of my favourites. The side-portrait of Freddie at Live Aid is now my favourite Live Aid picture. The way Preston captured Freddie's stage motion and often times his interplay with Brian - some well educated photographer could write an essay on that. Not me though. I am just impressed with his work, with this book - and to anyone who can afford it, and wants it, my advice is go for it. Not a lot to read but a LOT to see. There is a shot of Deaky with Goofy and Freddie signing a naked girl's butt. A beautiful photo of Mary and Freddie checking out some diapositives... and so much more. There is a short list of not-so-detailed credits, not directed to every picture, but rather vague references to sets of pages. exapmle: "pages 200-205 - photos from backstage at Slane Castle" etc. Even though it would be nice to know details of every photo and what is that terrace that Roger is sitting on page 135, keep in mind this is not an Queen-archive book, it is a photographic book presenting visual work of a great photographer capturing the best band in the world during their golden years and their road to becoming rock gods. It's a book to look at, to dream and enjoy the visuals. Trying to relive those moments that most of us missed, captured to live forever on a piece of film. I like it very much. Will put up a few pictures in the "your own collections" section soon. Cheers everyone! edit - some pics of the book over here queenchat.boards.net/thread/1582/black-gold-3-prized-pieces

Beautiful book. Beautiful pics. Fortunately I was able to borrow this from my local library. (Sorry, Neal!) Which means it won’t end up on a shelf gathering dust or stored in a box with all my other Queen books. But very glad I got to read it.

I had to wait for it a while, but I got this book last week from my wife for my birthday. What a magnificent book! A lot of well known pictures next to some truly great back stage photos I've never seen before. As stated above, the book is really about photography so a lot of information on where the pictures are taken is missing, but it was great to read some of Neal's anecdotes!
I'm very happy with this present!

Got the regular edition for 18 bucks and is was well worth buying. Although i did consider buying the deluxe edition but at 10.000 bucks it was a bit pricey.
