We already have a thread for Roger's songs but what about Brian's? I thought it was time to give them some attention. Do you have any favourites? For starters, I would say that his version of Too Much Love Will Kill You is on another level. I love Freddie's vocals but Brian sings it in a way that does things to your heart. Another huge favourite is Why Don't We Try Again

For the first time in while (a year or more?), this past week I listened to Back to the Light and Brixton Academy, and will probably listen to Another World next week. I also listened to Retro Rock Special a few weeks ago.

The entirety of Back to the Light is consistently pretty good; I’d say my favorite is the title track. Another World is less consistent, but Why Don’t We Try Again is my favorite from that one. What Are We Made Of, Dream of Thee, and Teasin’ Around are my favorite of his post-Another World songs. New Horizons is... well, it’s something else.
Edit: Oh, Only Make Believe and Rollin’ Over are my favorite covers of his. And I think there’s some potential for His Latest Flame, if only it had been completed.
I want to say Last Horizon, but I'm not particularly happy about the first minute or so of the studio version. But live, it's hands down my favorite solo piece by Brian. It's such a warm, inviting, and mysterious melody full of wonder. And that tone...I could listen to that for hours on end. Another favorite is the track Another World...all the way to the very end with the reprisal of Business, it's a beautiful work.
Aside from his purely solo work, I have to say that his cover of Parisienne Walkways with Kerry Ellis is beyond gorgeous.
All in all, I tend to gravitate more toward his ballads. Not only do I love the way his guitar sings, I also prefer his singing voice in those kinds of songs. Him trying to sing like a rock star doesn't always work for me.
I really like Last Horizon, Driven By You and Let Your Heart Rule Your Head. I also like his takes of TMLWKY and '39 and I think he made a good job rearranging Let Me In (Your Heart Again) for his wife. This thread reminded me to listen again to Another World and Star Fleet Project.
I like nearly all of Brian's true solo output. His versatility in musical genres has been simply amazing - ballads, heavy metal, blues..... But the song that really knocked me for six when I first heard it was Teasin' Around for the Sun Records album. His ability to sing this song with a mixture of passion, fragility and aggression is just wow.....

This song somehow escaped me. Thanks so much for pointing it out. You're absolutely right, he puts passion, fragility, and aggression all in one package...and on top of that his trademark guitar work. Powerful song.

For those not in the know, check it out.
I hadn't heard that before either. Brilliant!

Thanks ... I has been ages since I've heard this classic.
I'm always so happy whenever anyone brings up Teasin' Around, because I always forget about it and whenever it's brought up it's like I'm hearing it again for the first time.
I enjoy many of Brian’s songs, I actually listen to his albums a lot. I like Resurrection and Dream of Thee.....and for fun I really like I’m scared.
If you love me like music....I’ll be your song...
I really like his BTTL album... It made such an impact on me when I first heard it.. It was almost like a new Queen album, when we've just lost Freddie.
AW was such a big dissappointment.. I haven't listened to that one in ages...maybe I should give it a spin??
Favourite songs:
Back To The Light (great dynamics, love the atmosphere on this one)
Resurrection (I just love the guitar work here, one of Brian's best in that department, IMO)
TMLWKY (Prefer the solo version to the Queen version)
Nothin But Blue (a very underrated track! I have a thing for 6/8 measure, so I just love this one
Dream of Thee (simply beautiful! The last(?) master piece by Brian)
I also like his cover versions, especially Rollin' Over and One Rainy Wish are great!

I felt the same. In fact, at the time of it's release, it struck me that were it a Queen album, it probably would have been the best since The Works. Brian had that magical tone back - that "oomph" which was missing, certainly on The Miracle and Innuendo, and it was just a great set of songs.

I like your list a lot. I love Let Me Out, Back to the Light, Ressurrection, What Are We Made Of, Too Much Love Will Kill You, Business, It's Only Make Believe, His Latest Flame and Teasing Around.
