It is very difficult to choose, I love Queen II, A Day at the Races and Innuendo. Also I appreciate Flash Gordon as instrumental work. I like very much the ideas behind it and the fact that has some parts of early- mid 70s sounds.
So I choose the one I listen these days, it is A Day at the Races.

always used to be II for me - with I a close second. but the older I get, the album i play the most is Races. While II is just incredible, there are 2 poor tracks at the end of Side White. I is a great LP - raw and interesting and full of energy. But Races has something that neither LP has - great production and no filler.

i love the songs on Innuendo. but the Synstrumentation weakens it for me. It's like they had to throw every electronic gadget possible at it: drum machines, Korg M1, Talkbox, programmed orchestra, keyboards and percussion ...even to the point of someone deciding that the Korg "powerup demo" - was good enough to use as part of a song - FFS....the curious similarities to Smiths, INXS, Police and Pachelbel
also David Richards did a lot of the heavy lifting, then throw in Moran, Howe - rendering the whole thing not solely a Queen album.
One one hand - it's Queen sounding like Queen (so much better than Game, HS, Works & AKOM), on the other hand (in places) the production is woeful.
despite all of the above, I do like it. Quite a lot.

I managed to find a stems mix of MTAF which starts complete (no fade), so that was a box ticked. 🙂

Sheer Heart Attack!
With runners up places for The Game and News of the World. Then.. Hot Space/Queen. Not much love for the 80s here is there?
Queen II and Races are always the uber-fan favourites, no surprise they're in the lead. In both cases I much prefer the albums either side of them. Q1 and SHA feel more urgent and immediate than QII, ANATO I prefer the songs overall and NOTW is heftier and more direct.
I wonder if people associate albums with certain life experiences - how old you were, what you were doing in life, etc. and if that influences our tastes. I might be guilty of that.

Controversial! I've never heard STL being called a filler before. I would say for the vast majority of people, it's one of Queen's most popular tracks, and was, I believe, Freddie's favourite song.

(Yes, you read that right) Ted i think you just set the world spinning on a reversed axis...civilsation is about to unravel before us. seriously. you have got to be kidding. forget the casual fans and the mainstream. the song is epic, because of what it is. listen to the ogg stems, load them into Cool Edit / Audition and mute everything. then start constructing the song by un-muting individual tracks. it's a mind-blowing listen.

LMAO! What's the bloody point of that? Oh, I guess the stems mix has an ending as well, although, it's a bit of a jarring one. I tried to add some reverb to make it sound a bit less like the plug had been pulled. 😄

I wanted to respond to this topic sooner, but couldn't make up my mind...and honestly, I still can't. But today I'll go with Innuendo.
In my mind, it puts together all of my favorite Queen elements. The epic masterpiece (Innuendo), the tongue-in-cheek playfulness (I'm Going Slightly Mad and Delilah), the heaviness (The Hitman), the dramatic (The Show Must Go On), the reserved beauty (Bijou), and the rock and roll (Headlong). And that's not everything I love about it. It's got a unique atmosphere drenched in what I can only describe as self-aware. It's clearly a "signing off" record, especially with the tranquility of Bijou just prior to the greatest send-off song, The Show Must Go On. And Freddie sounds absolutely brilliant. On The Miracle, he had me worried. His voice was sounding rougher...still powerful...but for me it was leagues away from his crystal clear voice in the early to mid seventies. I've heard people argue Innuendo has filler...but I'll say it again, Delilah is super fun. Brian's guitar work is stellar! And I hear a lot about The Hitman. Yep, the fade out almost ruins it. But it didn't. Yeah, it's kind of stupid, but they sound like they're having fun. And given the circumstance, that's a miracle.
My other choice would be A Day at the Races. It's the culmination of my favorite era. All the pomp and circumstance! It's another Queen album that has no filler. From beginning to end it's ace and they never reached that level of quality again until Innuendo.

I figured my appraisal of STL would incite opposing viewpoints...I've always considered the song to be quite repetitious. I will state that I've always admired the guitar solo within, and the promo vid. for the song is actually my favourite from Queen.

I consider it unfortunate that Brenski doesn't rate OB as being at par with the rest of Side Black but I'm pleased he rates the remainder of that album side so highly - I would place FTS and WQ along with TMOTBQ, TFFMS and OB on my list of favourites by Queen.
