I think they changed their minds... There was also a US tour considered in mid 1975 that didn't go ahead.

Originally, concerts were also planned in Argentina, but the currency suffered a brutal devaluation and it was impossible to bear the cost of the shows. When Argentina fell, the tour was no longer profitable and ended up being suspended. Pelo Magazine, June 1983 SCOOP IN OCTOBER QUEEN COMES BACK IN OCTOBER QUEEN WILL PERFORM IN ARGENTINA The businessman Alfredo Capalbo announced a new presentation of Queen in the for the next month of October. The group will perform at the Vélez Sarsfield stadium -the main stage of their performances in Argentina two years ago- on Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd. These shows will be their only two performances in our country. Tickets for the events will go on sale in early July, and as announced, prices will range from $ 5 to $ 10. On the occasion, Queen will bring -as it happened on their first tour- all its powerful equipment, including the stage, the lighting system and the sound equipment. In this, its second visit to Argentina, Queen will present a renewed show, the same one that it has been showing with great success in Europe and the United States. In addition, the quartet will interpret the songs from the new studio album, which is about to be released. Queen's South American tour includes - in addition to shows in Argentina, performances in Brazil and Uruguay. The group will inaugurate the tour on Saturday, October 8, at the famous Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro. Later they will perform in Sán Pablo, and on Tuesday 18 they will arrive in Buenos Aires. Once the Buenos Aires presentations have been completed, Queen will travel to Uruguay to play on Wednesday 26 · at the Centenario stadium in the city of Montevideo. The delegation that accompanies Queen on her tour is made up of seventy people, including musicians, roadies, sound engineers, lighting designers, technical staff in general, and managers. In total, the band will bring one hundred and fifty tons of cargo in equipment. Queen's second visit to South America had originally been announced for January this year, but commitments made in other countries forced it to be postponed. Despite the low impact of their latest album ("Hot Space"), the Queen will arrive in South America with all the energy that their new album has given them, which they trust will place them once again among the world's leading rock groups.

The magazine Pelo, had announced the return of the group to Argentina. March 1982 issue. Report the return of Queen. It gathers opinions from journalists from Europe and the United States on the tour of the previous year in South America. It would have been good if they put the author of each text. At the end, there is an interview with the businessman who took them to Argentina where he states that Queen would return on January 83.

Yeah, they should have play a total of six concerts between November and December 1983. The tour dates were already set up, but the band cancelled it because it was too dangerous (due to many political changes in those countries). The cities considered were Montevideo (22 and 23 November), Porto Alegre (26 November), Sao Paulo (3 December), Rio de Janeiro (7 December) and Belo Horizonte (9 December).

Several things came together. The initial dates were postponed. At the beginning there were concerts in Argentina in January 83, then in October, but the devaluation of the Argentine currency made it impossible to assume the expenses. It was only tried with Uruguay and Brazil, and what you say happened, apart from the fact that it was no longer so profitable to do the tour.

Political changes in Argentina changed things and the tour proved too dangerous. Unfortunately.

I wonder what the setlist would've been like, like would it have songs from their next album, The Works? we probably won't get an answer, but it's fun to speculate

That’s what I find so curious about the canceled ‘83 tour, is that there wasn’t anything to promote (at least that they knew of at the time). Maybe the dates were booked in anticipation of another album/tour cycle in ‘83? Kind of like when I went on a cruise for my honeymoon, my wife and I were so besotted by the trip that we immediately booked another trip (that was eventually canceled when saner heads prevailed).
