@вяейski
I haven't checked in for a while, but you've certainly been busy. It looks like your pictures are getting better every time! Did anyone take any good pictures of Mars now that it's so close?

ThomasQuinn thanks, i'm learning as I go. nothing here for Mars (as yet) weather been terrible. Mars will be around until November, but Tues next is supposed to be good - just depends upon weather. i may try a video capture and stack individual frames.

I've just realised what I've been thinking are Mars and Venus are actually Saturn and Jupiter.

I've just realised what I've been thinking are Mars and Venus are actually Saturn and Jupiter. until mid-November: Saturn & Jupiter will appear in the South @dusk around 20 degrees and set around 9pm (UK time). Mars is an easier one - it's moving through the exact same path across the sky as the sun...so when the sun sets Mars is East and when the sun rises Mars sets in the west.

Quite a few awesome photos have been posted in this thread, thanks for sharing them here. I have photos I took of the 1st time I viewed a lunar eclipse in 1989 and of a planetary conjunction between Jupiter, Venus and Mars in 1991. I'll try to post them here soon.

That's what got me a little bit interested in astronomy 15 years ago. The numbers are terrifyingly huge. I still can't imagine how it's possible for us to control a space probe around Saturn (Cassini-Huygens) - 1 400 000 000 km/87 000 000 miles. It will never cease to amaze me.

The time lapse is fantastic.
I've thoroughly enjoyed being able to see Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, and the Pleiades star cluster all at once these past few weeks.

Black Wings Chief Mouse ThomasQuinn jon_innuendo HelloDelilah Chopin1995 pg emrabt The Real Wizard Lord Ficklethanks for the nice comments all. (for me) I like to look at the sky maps and "discover" what else my eye couldn't see - that my camera did. I was so taken by the satellite, i completely missed the two double-stars mirroring Saturn & Jupiter. Almost the same distance (2.5° apart) and in almost opposite corner of the image are double-stars: Alpha and Beta CapricorniAlpha is the wider one (the middle pair of 4 (top left)). The stars of Beta are only half as far apart and quite unequal (far left and level with satellite line) anyone wanting to zoom into these, just right-click Save As.

Here's one I took about five weeks back - the moon, Saturn, and Jupiter all within a couple arc degrees. Just marvellous.

Just marvellous. beautiful job. really nice image. it's been a nice two months - what with Saturn/Jupiter shadowing each other and Mars being so close. I like how the Moon has shifted attention from Saturn/Jupiter to Mars - like some cheap celestial tart. Now Mars is disappearing, but we still have three worthy events in December: ■ Mon/Tue, Dec 14/15 - Leonids Meteor Shower - >100 per hour: asteroid 3200 Phaethon ■ Mon/Tue, Dec 21/22 - Ursids Meteor Shower - 10 per hour: comet 8P/Tuttle The Ursids coincide with the Saturn/Jupiter conjunction (Cosmic Kiss)

Wow, those are some really cool photographs. I'd never heard of HIP99314, awesome that you got a picture of it as a kind of bonus!
I can see why you'd like to get a 200mm F/2.8 lens - I'm guessing they're not exactly cheap, though.

There's less-expensive Sigma/Tamron options available, but what quality would be lost?

I'm no expert, but I have nothing bad to say about Sigma lenses. Mind you, the newest I've used is nearly three decades old now.

I just held it and tried to keep it as stable as possible, optical image stabilization did the rest you must be rock steady then! - at 20x you're around 300mm DSLR zoome lens (equivalent) - even the slightest movement, will result in a jolt of some magnitude. the image should be blurred to f**k without a tripod/stand of some kind. excellent job!

Well since it's only 5x optical with OIS, and a further ~4x digital zoom allowing for more added EIS it's got great stabilization. But then still you've got to keep it steady or it'll slowly drift off the image
