The pessimism on this site sometimes beggars belief!! We hear a 10 second clip and it gets written off immediately, unbelievable. One glance at a tracklist and the album written off without a listen.... OMFG, give me strength. Have to agree. Come on folks, let's have a little more positivity. At least this is something new(ish)! We don't even officially know what the tracklist is yet, do we? I think we had a right to moan about the GH1 campaign, but this is something we've not even heard most of yet.

Imagine hearing a random 10-second clip of Bohemian Rhapsody for the first time and judging it on those merits alone. (Not saying anything Roger has written is Bohemian Rhapsody, but you get the general argument.)

Queen fans never cease to amaze. Only on a Queen forum could you find the apparent depth of perceptive ability to critique (some might say denigrate) a song based on 1 0 seconds of audio, while elsewhere on said forum that same depth extends to discussing "My Favourite Queen Concerts" in nothing more than List Form. Are we all really this shallow? Is this what everything has now come to? I blame social media and its accreditation of worthless content, and instant disposability. C'mon people: Life is not lived or judged in/by 10 second soundbites or List Form.

It's not a bad track, a lot better than I expected. On par with the songs from Fun On Earth, very similar production too.

Sorry, thought it was a bit meh. A constant repeat of the chorus and some bit in the middle about animals and plants. Perhaps the BM influence is kicking in. Saying that, still can't wait for 2nd Oct in Newcastle.

I don't think it's bad at all - his lyrics are still making me reach for a cushion to hide behind but it's well-intentioned and well-performed. Nice to see him on guitar - he looks rather less comfortable at the piano!

from the press release: "Coinciding with the release of his Outsider album, Taylor will make his first live performances outside of Queen in over two decades. Taylor will tour across the UK throughout October playing 14 shows with his specially formed band made up of Queen + Adam Lambert’s keyboardist Spike Edney, supporting drummer Tyler Warren, bassist Neil Fairclough, plus guitarist Christian Mendoza." As "usual" in the queen+related press release there are some incorrect informations. I swear i was there in Guilford (UK) enjoying Roger + The Cross live on 7th december 2013. Less than 10 years ago.

Looking at the tracklist it is a bit disappointing to notice that half of the tracks (6/12) are not unreleased:
Roger Taylor - Outsider Track Listing: 1. Tides. 2. I Know, I Know, I Know. 3. More Kicks. 4. Absolutely Anything.
5. Gangsters Are Running This World.6. We’re All Just Trying To Get By – Featuring KT Tunstall. 7. Gangsters Are Running This World – Purple Version.
8. Isolation.
9. The Clapping Song* 10. Outsider. 11. Foreign Sand – English Mix**
12. Journey’s End.All songs written by Roger Taylor except: *The Clapping Song – Written by Kay Werner, Lincoln Chase, Sue Werner. **Foreign Sand – Written by Roger Taylor and Yoshiki. Yet i can't wait for the album to be released to listen to the new songs. "We’re All Just Trying To Get By" isn't that exciting but i like the crescendo in the finale. I am sure it will be performed live in Roger's tour with great energy. little mistery: why do all the titles end with a "." except for "the clapping song"?

Absolutely Anything was only available as a minute and a half snippet and in low quality. I think that it's a blessing that we'll finally get it in its full form and in top quality. As for the other already-released tracks, I am happy to have them in an album context and available on CD (my favourite format). I am also very excited about the new Foreign Sand version, because like Roger says, the original version was majestic. Hopefully this version will be closer to how it was when Roger conceived it, before it got to Yoshiki's hands (the difference will be probably similar to the Final Destination 1990 vs 1994 versions). I can't wait for this, and we should all be thankful that at 72 he is still releasing solo albums. His solo career had been over in 1999. Fun On Earth was out of everyone's expectations and so it's Outsider. No-one saw this coming until a few months ago. For those complaining, while I respect all opinions, I don't understand why some are expecting him to come up with a new Sgt Pepper, ANATO or Dark Side Of The Moon. Roger has his own (simple perhaps) style, and this is what we are getting. I am happy just to know that he is still delivering. He doesn't need to.

Roger has his own (simple perhaps) style, and this is what we are getting. I am happy just to know that he is still deliverying. He doesn't need to. it's got nothing to do with the contents of his solo album(s) - or Brian's for that matter. Simple fact is: It doesn't matter what QPL release (and yes there's been a few turds since 1991), while the outtakes/demos collection has not been released in its absolute entirety, there'll be a small section of fans who will complain about EVERY single release, regardless. And this despite the fact that almost anything new that Roger or Brian put out will be infinitely better than outtakes/demos - which were little more than throwaways - never worthy of release in the first place! Still, some people eh? Wouldn't mind betting that even if every outtake/demo was GIVEN AWAY for free, there'd still be moans of "is that it?" "these are shit" and "we waited all this time...for this?" Bottom line: Sure, people can dislike (or be underwhelmed by) something, but taking a default position of disliking everything because it isn't something else, is a dangerous stance to take. One of my literary heroes once said: "There are only two tragedies in life: one is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it."

Some complain no matter what, even based on a snippet preview. But what it most surprises me is that while Roger is in the same line as all his previous albums, some are expecting him to come up with a new "Pet Sounds". Some fans complain when artists go in the same direction (the one that they feel attracted for the artist in first place), but they also complain when they explore different ways.

Very surprising that Jason Falloon won't be touring with RMT after initially being announced as such. Always enjoyed his work with Rog.

For those commenting on the fact that not all of the album is previously unreleased, let's remember that not counting Track 13, Made In Heaven only had three 'new' tracks, the rest being all re-workings of pre-existing (if not necessarily pre-released) material, and look how well that turned out. 🙂

Just heard the single in full. It's alright, pretty inoffensive and radio friendly. I do hope there's some proper drums on the album, though.

There's still two more bonus versions and hopefully the released tracks aren't exactly the same as in the album. There might be a b-side and/or additional versions from other sources too. Anyway: - The upside is that we got something in the meantime. Had Roger decided not to release an album, the other new tracks might have never seen the light of day. - I don't expect Roger to be particularly prolific at this point. "Fun On Earth" featured several new versions of old songs, which is fine by me. Anything else is a bonus these days.

Regarding the new track, I like it. I'm sure it will grow on me more like the rest of his work. Frankly, I'm just grateful Roger is still making music at 72!
So far I like where this album is going. We already have about half of the music in one form or another, but now it's together on one nice album. And who knows, there might be a surprise or two on some of those tracks. We'll have to stay tuned and find out.
I actually found myself revisiting the gangster tunes and hot damn. The purple version is so good! The drums sound massive and cut through with such clarity. Plus it's just a really fun tune.
And has anyone else noticed the cover for Outsider looks to be inspired by the video for Journey's End, which just so happens to close the album? Coincidence, I think not.

Yeah, the song is growing on me. Looking forward to the album and having these last few singles grouped together on a single CD.
Surprised there was no room for Shores of Formentera. Another song which I really dig.

Coincidence, I think not. Yes, you are so right. I agree in everything. :-) Talking about 'Journey's End', being the last track it leds people to believe that this is the very last solo effort by him, which is likely going to. However, in 2013 "Fun On Earth" was the closing circle to "Fun In Space", so who knows! I hope that we don't get complaints when the tour comes: the set is too short, too many Queen songs, only a few Queen songs, no Cross stuff, always the same set list, few tunes from the first solo albums, Roger keeps steady and doesn't dance, etc. As for the set list, nowadays many artists base them in the Spotify plays (ie. Paul McCartney with FourFive Seconds): Testify, Let's Get Crazy and Future Management are among his Top 10, so let's hope that they make their way onto the gigs! :-)

I'm glad he's still producing new music. I can completely differentiate between archive releases and this.
But I still find the way he puts his vocal through so much effect, as in the first verse, really annoying, and feel this song would benefit from having a rewrite of the verses to match the pretty good chorus.
I don't HAVE to like it because it's new.

$15 for six brand new Outsider songs versus $150 for a box set (NotW) with zero new songs? Hmmm ...Are there any bean counters on Queen Chat that can provide a rational answer to this conundrum?
I am asking for a friend ...

While I am not saying that USD 150 for that box set was fair, just for a start that release brought to light Sleeping On The Sidewalk live and ADAD sung by Freddie.

Well it depends if they like Roger's solo stuff enough to buy it. I wouldn't recommend getting the Box-Set, because it isn't that worth it (in my opinion), As there's really only one disc that has stuff that's "new" and "un-heard" (The Raw Sessions). On the other hand, Roger's new album seems to be alright, with 6 new songs and 6 songs that have been released over a 4 year period (2017 to now) I think the most rational answer is for your friend to listen to a song or 2 from both and see if they like it. If they don't, don't get the albums, but if they do, get it! Personally, I would rather get Roger's album than the NOTW box-set, as nothing on the Box-Set really interests me, aside from a few tracks, Whereas Roger's album seems decently promising! (and at least that has SOME new songs on it) Those are my two-cents, take them as you will
