The Back to the Light re-issue did not sound that much better than my original CDs. Or is it me? On My Way Up is on Apple-Music and it has much life and energy to it. Is it my imagination or does this sound much much better than the original release? Maybe very slightly better. It's been amplified a bit, and there's been a bit of EQ to bring out some more top end. But the differences are pretty negligible. New mastering of something CAN be negligible (and, of course, sometimes inferior e.g. the first remaster of Whitesnake's 1987 was HORRID) but I really think just from hearing On My Way up that the whole album WILL be greatly improved. And one more time: remastering is NOT the same as remixing as some people think...!

Somewhere In Time was released as Nothin But Blue Instrumenral Version as a Brian track. It's 100% the same recording though. But is it? There are additional guitar bits at the beginning, and most notably there's an extended part (the 20 seconds difference) at 2:18. I think yes. The NBB Instrumental clocks at 3:50 which is longer than the album version and exactly the same as Cozy's track. Also curious: Cozy's track has 4 writers, NBB has only 2 writers, but NBB Instrumental re-adds the 2 extra writers in the credits.

Nothin' But Blue (guitar version) and Somewhere In Time are the same recordings BUT completely different mixes. 'Somewhere In Time' drums, for example, are more upfront and have different sound.

Sorry for the confusion. There is indeed a "Nothin' But Blue" (guitar version) which is NOT "Somewhere In Time", and the difference is in the mixing indeed.
What I meant is that SIT is not the same as NBB stripped from the vocals and with the guitar taking over, as it's got additional bits.

I wonder why Amazon UK are taking so long to list this fully? There's a placeholder there but no price.

So the release date is April 22? Why did nobody mention it?
Can we add it to the thread title, please?

I listened to it recently, and to my ears it's aged well. It may not flow quite as well as Back to the Light, but there's not a single weak track on it. A lot of gorgeous tracks, namely the title track and Wilderness. I love the album. Especially Cyborg. Lol, I was just about to reply "everything but Cyborg". Didn't care for Guvnor either. Otherwise, there's some great songs on this album!

Damn... I just remembered that I have a "On My Way Up (theme version)" featuring less percussion. Couple that with the three "Business" theme tracks and there goes all the "new" stuff. Apologies for the optimism. We're getting 0 novelties once again.

Disappointing, but not unexpected, especially given the price of the 2CD set. It could be said that the second disc is being given away.

5 to 6 min of maybe unheard material, wow he went all out, just like BTTL why waste money on the box set, I don't get that mentality, why not do something extra for the fan base, it almost seems it's done on purpose. Just sad.....

AHHHH! Another World reissue! It's coming I've been excited ever since it was rumored after Back to the Light reissue came out, Another World always has been my fav Brian album. So it will be easier for me to get Another World on vinyl, like I've been meaning to anyways!

At least there are some harder-to-get older tracks on disc 2 this time (My Boy, Otro Lugar, the Business/On My Way Up/Cyborg alternate takes) . The BTTL disc 2 only had B-side tracks from regular easy-to-get singles.

Just sad..... They're curating these box sets for a new generation of fans who haven't even heard the original albums. Most artists are like this now.
They weren't doing Benny Goodman box sets in the '70s. The artists of the '70s are probably genuinely flabbergasted that there is any interest in things they did decades ago.
Of course I'd be first in line to buy something with old outtakes from my favourite artists, but most of the artists know that's about 1% of their fanbase now. Cats like us aren't the target audience, so there's no point in culling through old tapes for things that most people won't be interested in. And they can just jack up the price because they know most of the big fans (including most of that 1%) will buy it anyway. Their label is especially happy with that.
On the other hand - it's those original fans who supported them in the beginning that made it possible for them to have this legacy to begin with, so trust me - I understand both sides. But they're still playing to the majority because it's better for business, and it's easier. Win/win for them.

Robert Fripp just announced a 32-disc (4 DVD / 4 BR / 26 CD) set of most of the stuff he did between 1977-1983. If there's a market for that, surely there must be a market for a bit more extensive archival releases by Brian May.

And then there's this sobering perspective:
King Crimson has a massively loyal fanbase. Queen are not an albums band in the wider world, never mind their solo stuff. Back in the '70s if you had multiple AM radio hits, your audience almost completely changed overnight because the 45 buyers jumped on while the musos usually saw AM radio as betrayal.
I love Brian and most of the music he's created, but I'm just trying to be realistic and see the bigger picture here. Fripp is operating in a whole other universe.

Am I the only person that’s actually looking forward to these releases? Yeah there’s no wonderful outtakes or brand new masterpieces, but did we actually expect that? I enjoyed the BTTL rerelease, it took me back to the days when I lived for Queen/Solo stuff, and AW will stir some great memories too, so let’s just enjoy this trip down memory lane, and stop moaning about things which deep down, we knew we weren’t gonna get

I can't wait.... if only cos the box set of AW will look nice next to BTTL. Just need to leave room for Brixton next (he says optimistically!!)

Sadly, not every Queen fan will also be a fan of Freddie/Brian/Roger's music, either because they don't know it exists or simply because they... don't care enough? I wish Brian's albums were more popular in the mainstream media, maybe he would realise a lot of people care about what he puts out. I personally was expecting new content, but only because that's how he advertised the rereleases (didn't he mention bonus tracks...?). I'm not sure what The Last Great Optimist and I'll Be Prayin' are, I think you guys mentioned them being part of the Frank Stubbs soundtrack? Well, we'll see. I'm just hoping Another World will make more noise, and way outside Instagram. Brian deserves it!

I'm pretty excited for this! Yeah, there isn't any new stuff, but I personally prefer paying a nice $16 than the probable hundreds, if not thousands I'd have to pay on eBay had this not existed.

Let´s start year number 18 since i bought last Queen (and related) item. Another useless release...
A recording session of an album which took about 6 years since the first one and there are only 10 minutes of unreleased material...
Brian is laughing at the buyers of these releases...

I have both original releases of Brian's 2 solo albums on CD, but picked up BTTL on LP when it was re-released and I'm looking forward to getting Another World on LP when it's released. I prefer this album more. I have the original Starfleet release on LP to go with them.

To be fair, the CDs are relatively cheap, and seem to be aimed at people who haven't already got the albums. I'm pretty sure if these contained anything 'new', they would be double the price.

Is it my imagination or does this sound much much better than the original release? It’s not just you - the BTTL remaster was very disappointing and really doesn’t make the original ‘sparkle’ like it should. ‘On My Way Up’ does improves a little in the original master so leaves me a little more hopeful for the full album, sonically if not content wise!
