If Tim Staffell hadn't left Smile, would Freddie Mercury have ended up making the models for Thomas The Tank Engine?
If Tim Staffell hadn't left Smile, would Freddie Mercury be alive?
If Freddie didn't join Brian and Roger, would any of them have become famous at all?
If Freddie didn't know Kenny Everett....
If Body Language or IWTBF had somehow been avoided, would Queen still have been a powerhouse in the states when Freddie was still here?
If Freddie was still alive (but Queen no-more) would May and Taylor still have had the balls to put the begging scene in the movie?
If Jim Beach wasn't their manager, would we have had an anthology by now?
There's plenty of ifs and buts - some deeper than my inane thoughts, and some even more mundane. I guess none of it matters, but it's still interesting.

I can't imagine them ever surviving that.
Then again, in some strange alternate universe, The Prophet's Song was played by Kenny Everett, became an international super hit, was in the head-banging scene in Wayne's World, and Bo Rhap was just "a song" on the album.

If Tim Staffell hadn't left Smile, would Freddie Mercury be alive? Nope.
But Freddie Bulsara probably would be.

Imagine Smile had made it big. There probably would be docos about them and Mr Bulsara would likely be featured in some of them enthusiastically speaking about their music. He'd be one of those lads who showed up in those early days journalistic pieces and attend fan club conventions to talk about what they were like as young adults (sort of what the likes of David Dilloway and John's childhood friends have done from time to time).
Also, loads of SmileZoners would hate me because I'd keep referring to the lead singer as Timothy.

After Tim Staffell's untimely death, in 2007, Brian and Roger are wrestling with whether to call it a day. But with Smile's 40th Anniversary due next year - and many major events already planned, they decide to audition a new singer to help with the 2008 milestone celebrations.
Meanwhile, Leon Jackson reaches the XFactor finals, and Brian and Roger ask him to audition for Smile - off the promise that SPL (Smile Productions Limited) will commit to promoting his solo career after Smile operations wind down toward the end of 2008. All goes well, and Leon decides to stay and the unthinkable (for some): Smile continue. Four years later a small few have still not accepted the new order. Smile's first and biggest fan forum was to bear the brunt of the initial onslaught of the disgruntled minority:A couple of years further on and Smile are about to embark on huge stadium world tours off the back of three platinum-selling studio albums. Still, some first-generation fans are far from happy with the outcome. The poison has now spread to highly-respected music collector's magazines:Note: the above are adapted actual posts/letters from an (unfortunately) well-known "friend of the band".

Just commenting.....but didn't we all move here to get away from seeing that rubbish? it is a joke you know. to fit in with the theme of the thread. "he" isn't here - so there won't be rows about it. there has to be room for some humour in life, and, if you think my post was bad, then this'll put you into apoplectic shock. queenchat.boards.net/thread/475/who-queens-biggest-rival-bandnever mind, if it's causing offence - i'll remove it when later this evening. sorry.

The Prophet's Song is a good song, but I think the middle part kills the rest of it...
