Amazon.co.jp has started selling limited edition "mega jacket" versions of all Queen releases, including studio albums, live albums, video compilations, documentaries, etc. "Mega jacket" refers to a mini-poster reproduction of the album jacket, at twice and length and width of a standard CD/DVD/Blu-ray jacket. It comes with the CD/DVD/Blu-ray in standard packaging, and it's a marketing technique they've used with other domestic acts. They will be sold in waves, and Live Killers was among the first with an April 17th release. It just so happens I was in the market for a remastered upgrade to my '91 Hollywood release, so I bought a Live Killers 2019 SHM-CD with the "mega jacket" option for an additional $5. It came in the mail today. Here is the mega jacket, between the CD it came with and a vinyl copy for comparison: Even though it's basically what I expected, I was still underwhelmed. The mega jacket is flimsy and low resolution; it's as if someone went to a retail office supply store and used the colour photocopier to enlarge a copy of their CD jacket onto the lowest quality paper they had in stock. It is blank on the back and is a big stretch to call it a jacket. Oh well. I was curious, the timing was right, and $5 isn't too damaging. But still....

I received a few CDs today also, expecting them to be housed within a 24cm x 24cm external jacket...underwhelmed indeed. Promptly went and cancelled another order that I had placed for the next wave to be released in May.

I'm sure there will be many others like you who will cancel their pre-orders. The first wave seems to be selling, though. Only 10 copies left for Live Killers, 1 left for Innuendo, 1 for News of the World. Good thing Amazon can print them off so easily and cheaply to replenish their stock.
