Here's where we can discuss the new Roger Taylor - The Outsider Tour Live CD. I'll add my thoughts when mine arrives!
Interesting to see it's still not available on CD from Amazon. Is this the first website exclusive release from the band? I wonder if he was told he couldn't put it out on general release because of the impending new Queen products?

Just listened to the whole Live Album. Excellent document of the tour. Very enjoyable listening experience.
It's a pity that the intro to the show is not included here.

Going through it now. Is it me (almost certainly) or the Guildford and Norwich songs sound better than London? Nicer, clearer mix.

Just purchased from QOL for just under $24 including delivery charges. I could have bought the mp3 from Amazon for $11.49, but I wanted a physical copy. I listened to 30 second excerpts on Amazon and his voice sounded quite strong. I noticed that someone else sang the intro to Rock It. Anyone know who it was that sang the intro?
On the link for Surrender that Lord Fickle provided in the other thread, I heard a full version of Heroes (my favorite Bowie song) and was impressed with Roger's strong emotional delivery.

It's Tyler Warren on Rock It. I suppose also Neil Fairclough on parts of it. Cheers, Ogre-

I'm through the first disc. This is thoroughly enjoyable. I'm so glad this tour was properly documented. Last year after seeing a gig I thought this was the best show Roger had ever put together, and maybe this means he agrees.
Here's a great review:
The writer refers to These Are The Days Of Our Lives as a song that "exudes soul without excess sentiment" - but he could be talking about pretty well anything Roger has written, as that's his songwriting philosophy in a nutshell. I wish I came up with that !!

<miserable git mode> Who's the bloody screamer during A Kind Of Magic?! Is that really necessary? </miserable git mode>

<miserable git mode> Who's the bloody screamer during A Kind Of Magic?! Is that really necessary? </miserable git mode> True! I think it's a very enjoyable recording, well mixed, captures the live feeling and great performances (Tenement Funster finally and officially live!). But those screams....OMG...what's the point of mixing JUST ONE GUY screaming his lungs out!? BTW...excellent release, old Rog

Just disappointed they took out the drum battle... But it's understandable - drum solos are usually best enjoyed in the moment, not on a live album.
Plenty of hardcore Zeppelin fans still think the version of Moby Dick on The Song Remains The Same (read: John Bonham's peak as a player) is too long, and 15 minutes of it was edited out !

I'd expect it at a Take That concert...

Just disappointed they took out the drum battle... Yes, I'd wish it was kept just like Cozy's drum solo on Brixton. IMHO that was one of the best moments of the concerts / album. But with all respect, the Outsider drum battle was nowhere close.

I was looking forward to this and quite frankly and it superseded even my expectations! This is one of my favorite Queen releases in years to be honest. I wish I had been able to go for a gig but this is a great document! Roger in fine form and the rest of the band is also in good form. If QAL were to tour again, I'd actually love it if the the QAL band opened for them doing Deep cut Queen tracks if Rog and Brian won't do 'em! Tyler is to Roger's band as Roger is to Queen. Great backing vocals and energy! Roger though just seemed really confident!

Roger Taylor's live album a tidy, enthusiastically received triumph. The Outsider Tour Live is a scorching live set from Queen drummer.October 2021 saw Queen drummer Roger Taylor reaffirming that he’s more than that with an “intimate” (by his standards) UK tour. Ostensibly, it showcased his deft and topical album The Outsider, bringing that lockdown creation out for some interaction and oxygen. However it also reminded enthusiastic crowds of his own contributions to Queen, regaling the faithful with Taylor compositions such as Radio Ga Ga (a synchronised handclap-inducing lodestone), Tenement Funster, These Are The Days Of Our Lives and I’m In Love With My Car. Before the last, he quips: “That movie Bohemian Raspberry took the piss out of this song... fuck ’em.” Physical editions of Roger Taylor's The Outsider Tour Live are available exclusively from Queen Online. www.loudersound.com/reviews/roger-taylors-live-album-a-tidy-enthusiastically-received-triumph

A great release. Well recorded and mixed, with Roger and the band on top form. Each track segues into the next as if we’re listening to a single gig, which is a nice effect. Listening to ‘Up’ at the moment. Love the funky jam starting at 1:15, especially the bass!

Having heard Queen with Adam Lambert live on the spot and recorded, I wasn't expecting too much from Roger's solo live venture, because I've thought he has not been in the best of forms in the last 10 years, but I still bought the Outsider Tour 2CD. Damn glad I did, because his live set was much more interesting and "dangerous" than Queen shows have been since Adam became a part of the package. Much more enjoyable a listen than all the Q+AL things I've heard combined.

If you're playing to an arena with 20,000 people, you'll likely be alienating your audience if you're going to play half a set that most people won't identify with. Everything in its right place.

Yeah, you're right about that. Still, they could spice up their Q+AL setlists with lesser played hitsongs like Breakthru, Innuendo, Headlong, Let Me Live, I Was Born To Love You, Heaven For Everyone and No-One But You, since they're all doable. Maybe now with the Miracle box coming out, they could increase the amount of songs from that album on their set, cause there's 4 hit songs on it (don't think Scandal was that much of a hit) and they've only ever played I Want It All from there.
On further thought, though, I also enjoyed Roger's live album more because it was Roger singing with a great band perfectly able to do great backing (and lead) vocals. Like for many others here, Adam's voice has never been particularly enjoyable for me, although it's grown less grating on me in the last few years, but I dislike his stage persona even more than his voice. If Roger and Brian took a bit more lead vocal duties in Q+ gigs, it'd be more worth the ticket, IMO. Maybe get Tyler and Neil sing some lead vocals instead of Adam, I'd buy that. Tyler did a pretty damn epic young Roger impersonation in Rock It (prime jive).

Can't disagree with any of that.
But of course there are many factors at play. Roger has more energy for music because it's what he does, while Brian's going on all cylinders in a whole bunch of directions - astronomy, stereo photography, books on both of these things, and animal rights issues. He doesn't have time to learn a bunch of new songs the way he did 40-50 years ago, nor the interest because most people who see them are new to their music and seeing them for the first time, and want to hear the songs on the Greatest Hits albums (or in 21st century language, on their Spotify playlist, which are the most popular songs). To them, '39 is an obscure album track, and the most keen ones will go home and listen to ANATO for the first time after the show.
Also - much of Brian's energy on tour goes into designing the production and running the tech meetings. To him there's so much more to touring than playing a few new songs for the 2% of the audience that may want to hear them.
