Hey there! I know this has been discussed many times over, there still seems to be some uncertainty and conflicting reports about the actual broadcast dates for the Top of the Pops performances of 'Killer Queen' and 'Now I'm Here'. Here's what I figured might be accurate, but please correct me on any of this if I got it wrong.
Killer Queen - October 11, 1974
The first and most commonly known visual performance of this song. Also this was re-broadcasted on the October 24, 1974 and the December 27, 1974 editions of TOTP. It was commercially released on the 'Box of Flix' double VHS in 1991.
A previously unseen different take from the same shoot was dusted off from the BBC archives, sadly cropped to 16:9 and released on the 'Greatest Video Hits I' DVD and has since become the standard music video for this song.
Killer Queen - October 24, 1974
As above, not the alternate take as sometimes indicated(??)
Killer Queen - November 7, 1974
The initially wiped and lost second performance was supplied to Queen Productions by a private collector. It has since leaked in its entirety to YouTube. The segment is partially destroyed by tracking or receiver problems from the beginning until the end of the first chorus. There is also a time code. It was commercially released (cropped to 16:9 again) as an extra on the 'Days of our Lives' DVD with the damaged part replaced by the alternate take from October 11.
Killer Queen - November 21, 1974
The third appearance for Killer Queen. This episode was wiped but most of the performances have survived in one way or another, but sadly not Queen's. This video perpetuates to be from this show but is most likely taped off the December 27 edition (as co-host Dave Lee Travis can be seen who did not appear on the Nov 21 episode). The above photo was taken by David Redfern who also took photographs (some dated to November 20) of nearly all performances from this particular show.
Killer Queen - Christmas Rock with 45 - December 25, 1974
Okay, this is not Top of the Pops but actually from the christmas editon of ITV's '45', filmed in Manchester on December 19. There was some confusion about wheter or not pictures taken on this set were from TOTP or another appearance. Thanks to chin for providing the picture. Also the well-known and widely-available Avro's Top Pop 'Killer Queen' clip filmed in Amsterdam is NOT from Top of The Pops and has been mislabeled as such many times.
Now I'm Here - January 16, 1975
Another wiped program that's lost forever. This is just speculation. The above photo is definitely from Top of the Pops but hasn't been matched to a distinct date or song. Also the rediscovered footage of Now I'm Here on TOTP was confirmed by Simon Lupton to be from the later broadcast from January 30.
Now I'm Here - January 30, 1975
Initially thought to be lost this footage was re-discovered by Keith Badman. 2 minutes were included in the BBC documentary 'From Rags to Rhapsody' and the whole thing is out there in collectors hands but very rare. There is a video of the Chart-Rundown of this episode, the picture quality is excellent and quite possibly the full show survived.
Now I'm Here - February 13, 1975
Queen did not appear in person for this as they were in the US at this point, so either one of the two previous performances was shown (or, though very unlikely, a clip of the Rainbow NIH promo).
