And that's the BBC version. From memory, the whole solo on the BBC version is reversed, yeah, but the studio version definitely has various fills in reverse, and the solo has sections both in reverse and forwards. It's cleverly and fairly seemlessly constructed. I've heard it a thousand times and never noticed - but you're right ! Right after the first chorus there's a bunch of it. And now that I listen to it backwards, they are clearly multiple bits of noodlings that are comped together - they aren't single takes. mind. blown.

How do you guys know about the backwards sections in the songs? Just by listening, or has it been disclosed somewhere? A bit of both. Some are more obvious to the ear than others - especially to people who are seasoned musicians or have worked in sound design.
Also, some of us that are old enough would have noticed it on the original vinyl LPs, and played the reverse parts in reverse (by spinning the turntable backwards) to hear what it would have sounded like not in reverse! 🤪

Ha. Just shows how well-crafted it was, that someone like yourself had never noticed until now!

Indeed, it's just amazing to hear new things in music you've known for 25 years.

This idiot just took the opening of Ogre Battle and played it in reverse - only to discover it's the same as the end of the song The things I've learned here in just a few weeks far outweighs what was learnt in the past couple of years on another site
