Hello everybody.
Today I post a series of articles, all published in the British music magazine Record Mirror, concerning Queen's first North American tour, held between April and May 1974.
Enjoy the reading!
1) the first short article, titled Queen set, was published in the May 18th, 1974 issue of the magazine. Although Queen had already interrupted their tour due to Brian May's illness, the magazine indicates that the band was included in the list of partecipants at the Buxton Festival, held at Booth Farm in Buxton, England on July 5th and 6th, 1974. Queen did not attend the event, which Mott The Hoople did; other attendees included Lindisfarne, Horslips, Man, JSD Band, Faces, Streetwalkers, Humble Pie, Trapeze, Badger and Strider. Don McLean, Van Morrison, Sha Na Na and Melanie, named in the article in question, ultimately did not participate at the festival.
2) the second article, titled Queen are home, comes from the Record Mirror issue of May 25th, 1974; readers are advised that Brian May has fallen ill with hepatitis and the band have had to return to England with him, canceling the tour with Mott The Hoople. It was announced that the canceled shows would be made up for September 1974, when the band would return to America for a headlining tour (which never happened).
3) the third article, titled Back from the USA, was published on June 8th, 1974. Journalist Genevieve Hall interviewed Roger Taylor by telephone on his return from the United States about the band's first Atlantic crossing; Taylor, in addition to talking about the concerts in which Queen played as "guest stars" of Mott The Hoople, reveals the band's intention to play a series of concerts on the West Coast without Mott, a project later abandoned due to Brian's illness. Roger refers to the 20 shows scheduled for September 1974 and reveals to the journalist that Queen are writing material for a new album which will be released next summer.
