According to Brian in 2003, Freddie’s hommage to him was written as a B-side during the Game sessions thus probably between February - May 1980. Then how how to explain the references to Flash Gordon (he’s savior of the Universe) and Under Pressure which was recorded in 1981?

My guess is that those would've been inserted later. The main structure and lyrics might've been written in early 1980 but that doesn't mean they couldn't have changed some parts of it

Only the idea for "Flash" needs to exist at this point, it doesn't need to be released... Maybe the idea to call Under Pressure "Under Pressure" as opposed to "People On Streets" was influenced by a pre existing lyric?

What my uneducated hypothesis is, is that the basic track was laid down during The Game sessions, likely with filler vocals, and was then returned to during the post-Under Pressure sessions with lyrics. I always viewed it as a kind of summation of or teaser for Greatest Hits, as most of those songs in the lyrics are on that compilation.
