even at five bedrooms (these days) the building is still the same overall size/footprint, so it's a big old place. the average price of an 3-bed semi in the UK at that time was £21,966 with the comparable London price being £55,000 Factor in Freddies's GL purchase at £500,000 I'd say that's a pretty big property compared to average 3-bed semi in London!

I'm not disputing its size! Somebody said that "rooms could have been mothballed", and I'm trying to illustrate that wasn't really an option.

A lot of the items have had new bids in the last couple of days too, it's going to be interesting to see what they open the bidding at on the first 59 (assuming there are unpublicised bids pending)

"Freddie's most intimate personal effects, and writings that were part of what we shared for so many years, will go under the hammer, to be knocked down to the highest bidder and dispersed forever. I can't look. To us, his closest friends and family, it's too sad. Bri." Brian's finally commented on the auction. (source) http://instagram.com/p/Cw0_wzSMJzZ

I can understand his point. They havn't seen all this for many years either but they're strong connected with it. But with Freddie's will it all is owned by Mary and at least she can do with it what she wants. At least we can make some screenshots from the lyrc sheets. For example the one of "We Are The Champions" ist fascinating. Kind regards W.

I think the majority of the auction is outside the description "intimate writings" - I wouldn't disagree that the Queen related writing would be better as part of a wider Queen archive, but it's not like anybody's raiding Freddie's sock drawer - and what would Brian prefer be done with it all? Mary is as entitled to plan her estate by selling off all this stuff in the most profitable way possible, as Brian is to plan HIS estate by selling off his publishing for a massive chunk of cash.
As for the stuff that is definitely Queen stuff (lyrics, set lists, etc) - even if it was all kept together... Then what? Brian's not going to live forever either, and there's no Queen Museum...

And I guess Mary will get 25% of that too?

Only themselves to blame. one fact remains, had they approached her at any time in the previous 30yrs, the cost of rehoming the items would have been significantly less than it will be today.

Some interviewer needs to ask Brian why Queen Productions didn't negotiate a buy out of this collection. As the attendance of the exhibition has shown, the potential for a Queen Museum is there and the buy out would pay out for itself in the long term.
The amount of items from Freddie alone is staggering and combined with holdings of Brian and Roger the exhibition could be kept fresh for years on by rotating the items on display.
It could have been a landmark for London but it is just a big wasted opportunity probably due to the egos involved cause QPL has all the money needed.

I dont think that Queen productions didn't want to get some stuff over the years.
If my memory serves me well, back in 2005-06 while Freddie best of was about to released, Brian did a comment on his soapbox. He said something that he and Roger are not involved. Any decisions about Freddie solo work is on his heirs.
Probably between 2005-2007 something broke between Brian and Mary.

It could have been a landmark for London but it is just a big wasted opportunity probably due to the egos involved cause QPL has all the money needed. If "QPL has all the money needed", why risk a commercial operation like that? They'd need - a prestige, accessible building in central London, which wouldn't be cheap, very good security (ditto), staff, insurance, etc, and the payback would be, effectively, the admission fees and the gift shop. Admission fees might cover staff and security, but the gift shop has got to cover everything else, plus an overall profit. That's a lot of merch, and if they're capable of selling that much merch, why not just make the pop up stores permanent, and complemented by the online shop? In short - no way does a Queen Museum make money, and no way will anyone make one just for the thrill of it....

Roger's fan club letter back in about 93 says something like "for a number of reasons, including Brian's touring, we were not involved in "The Freddie Mercury Album"" - my suspicion has always been that the deal to use IWBTLY and MIH as Queen tracks included butting out of whatever was being relesed.

Thanks for this, I was wondering how to watch it. I see the hate for Mary continues in the chat, which seems a little odd, given that nobody would see this stuff if she wasn't selling it..... edit - it hasn't even started yet and I've closed the chat due to utter cretins.....
