And that the piano was under estimate. But in the end I just hope the piano is played. one thing beyond all dispute: no original piece of work constructed on it hereafter will EVER be anywhere near as good as Bo Rhap It would certainly be interesting to know, who bought it, if it was ever disclosed. In some ways it would be wonderful if it was a currently working musician who might actually be able to create new music on it.

Kind of narrows the field a bit! You never know though. However the cynic in me just sees all the 'big' stuff becoming expensive boasts for the 1%, for oligarchs and hedge fund managers.

I don't have a Facebook account anymore so I can't personally check, but I have seen a screenshot of the following interaction occurring in the comments of a FB post. I'll report it here for what it's worth - clearly not much, given that it's not from the man himself but from his social media manager (or whoever is responsible for the non-Instagram socials): Random fan: "Queen Productions should have bid on band related lots."
Brian May [the official FB page]: "The band will surely be keeping an eye on anything important to legacy. [ADMIN]" Most likely just wishful thinking from Brian's social media guy, mind you, but still.

Kind of narrows the field a bit! It does, but there's a few, like Elton, Rick Wakeman, even some younger folks, like Gary Barlow, would presumably have access to that sort of cash. I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility, but like you say, perhaps unlikely.

Brian already has Freddie’s primary grand piano since he died. You can see it some Brian interviews.

In short... wasn't Bo Rhap written on the old upright piano anyway?

My first thought when I saw the £1.74 million winning bid was to work out how many Steinway Model Ds you could get for that (about 13 if you assume a rough price of £130k each). It wouldn’t be Freddie’s piano, of course, but you’d save yourself a bunch of money and very likely end up with a better instrument. With the savings you could instead bid on a vase or something and still own an item of Freddie’s.

If it's freely available, which it appears to be, I don't see a problem with a link to it here.

There was a moment yesterday, watching the auction I imagined I saw the back of Rufus Wainwright’s head & I thought YES!! YOU!!! THE PIANO MAY BE YOURS!!! 😂😂😂 To be fair, I’m a music therapist. I work primarily with non-verbal kids, using music to try to help their communication & expression- ALWAYS leading from what they can & want to do! SO! If anyone wishes to donate Freddie’s Laquer piano to me, I will both treasure it & ABSOLUTELY pledge to use it with my WONDERFUL clients who are the essence of music - they are beyond composing the best songs ever. They communicate & express & (I hope!!) can realise, sometimes for the first time how they are fully heard by playing the piano & there being space for THEIR music to be heard and then responded to. 💛

Total of hammer prices so far £17m Total of current bids on what remains £3.5m
Sotheby's original estimate for tomorrow's lots was £770k, current bidding is at £1.25m - we wait to see how much more the celebrity factor adds. The Japan day is currently more or less on estimate at £410k The last two days have quite a lot of stuff that could go big - the IGSM costume and wig, loads more gold discs, another FM statue, some more handwritten stuff, and the other door at the end.

So, I was listening to Ep21 of the Queenpod. In it is an interview with Brooks. They get around to talking about auctions and stuff, and he pretty much said the band don’t bid on stuff, unless it’s things like handwritten lyrics Good to hear. Of all the things the band should be preserving, that's the real gold. It's not just material things - it's a key to understanding their creative process and being able to preserve this knowledge for future generations. I honestly cannot imagine Brian letting these kinds of things go to waste, even if it's just for his own sentimental reasons. Maybe he wouldn't care about such artifacts from a decade later, but from their earlier albums, when they were young and so full of hopes/goals/dreams, pieces of paper like that are an express route right back to those feelings.

Well, I can tell you unequivocally that all the lyrics weren't bought by the same bidder, so unless QPL were REALLY organised (which admittedly isn't out of the question), some of it has definitely been split up.
It would seem to me that if QPL wanted such items, a backdoor deal would have been done before the auction, possibly under the cover of a "copyright claim", or whatever mechanism Mick Rock's estate seem to have used to nix most of his work.

I'm sure the physical pieces are on a case by case basis. But no doubt they got scans of everything before they were put up for auction.

It is to be hoped that you are correct.
More to the point, it is to be hoped that there is, someday, PROOF that you are correct - if you get my drift.

I myself didn't hear it so I apologize in advance for being unable to provide a source but Queen Rare Archive on Facebook under the comments section on one of their posts mentioned Sotheby's had an interview with the guy who bought the cape and crown and it seems he has plans to display it for fans? Again don't quote me I didn't hear it myself just passing on the message.
Side note how long does the book take to arrive? I'm in Canada and it departed the UK (apparently) August 25th and there has been no movement since.

Day 3 - for clarity, it is streaming on the Sothebys website, as per yesterday with a single camera view.
The Disney animation cell of Delilah (?) has been withdrawn - presumably Disney have noticed and been in touch....

The Chinoiserie Grand Piano was up to £310,000 when I left it but it's like watching paint dry with this auctioneer.

eventually went for 445,500 GBP The stool was estimated at 1,000 - 1,500 GBP and went for 48,260 GBP. Silly money being spent on some of this stuff.
Sketchbook with 9 drawings went for 50,800GBP

I think they give more time to phone bidders to factor in the fact that everything has to be relayed. It was the first case I'd seen where there were two of them - but I also agree that the fella didn't help by reducing the steps to 5k / 10k instead of 10k / 20k as would be standard.
