More detailed pics for some items, including lyrics of Bohemian Rhapsody (which was originally Mongolian Rhapsody), We Are The Champions, Somebody To Love and Don’t Stop Me Now. Sotheby’sInteresting that they're all on the same pad of paper.... Not suggesting they're all from '74, but that does suggest they may be closer together in terms of original start than expected (and it's been said before that WATC started in '75). I lack the musical ability to determine if those harmonies were recorded as written, but Im certainly wondering about it!

"Mongolian Rhapsody" somehow it doesn`t quite have the same appeal. Freddie must of realised this and changed it.

Going out on a limb here, but the fact that these lyrics are written on a British Midland calendar, could they have been written on tour? That would make sense: they were doing a lot of travelling and stationery was probably not easy to come by.

The moustache comb will likely go for more than the estimated £400-600, but — damn — I would like to be the owner of Freddie Mercury’s moustache comb 🤔

Going to be a lot of stuff going well over estimate eg. handwritten early Bo-Rap only one in the world for £1.2 Million could be a low figure. Going to be interesting watching this develop.

It is incredibile how a handwritten text of a song, on a calendar paper, is going to be valued much more that some paintings. It is impressive how Freddie has been rediscovered by the world through the years. All these items are just items, but the interesting side is how they clarify more the singer'r private side, I find it really fun to discover those things, I was not imaging Freddie collecting a lot of Queen stuff like a Queen collector.

As soon as I found out Fred had originally toyed with 'Mongolian Rhapsody' something rang a bell for me but I could not work out why. And then it hit me: when scientists researched his vocals a few years back they stated that he employed the same vocal techniques as Mongolian throat singers. A small connection, sure...but it made me smile.
I am absolutely loving seeing stuff like this out there; it gives us a wonderful insight into his mind - and reminds us just how unique and different he was. And the fact that BR was originally a song about going to war fascinates me; it shows me that it was always going to be a song about conflict of some sort...and we know that he was fighting a part of himself for a few years until he came out to Mary.
I have always believed that he really meant 'Mary' instead of 'mama' and that he was confessing to her his sexuality (killing a man meaning killing the old Freddie); also, I have always felt that 'life had just begun' was really 'our love had just begun...but now I've gone and thrown it all away'. Of course I could be well off the mark here, but it's just what I feel.
Hope we get to see more of this stuff in the coming weeks. And I pray someone makes a documentary about this auction, telling his story through his personal items and maybe giving us a glance of Garden Lodge before all of his belongings were boxed up.

Sotheby's is publishing a book about the Freddie collection that is about to go to auction. It will be available from Sotheby's in London but you can pre-order a copy online for delivery from Hatchards [ edit: Sotheby's site only names Hatchards but maybe it's available elsewhere]. Published August 4th. "In celebration of the ‘Freddie Mercury: A World of His Own’ auctions at Sotheby’s in September 2023, this exclusive volume presents selected highlights from Freddie Mercury’s personal collection at his home, Garden Lodge, ranging from artworks and personal ephemera to stage costumes and handwritten lyrics, as well as dozens of photographs from his personal archive. Featuring contributions from Sotheby’s experts, and interviews with friends and collaborators including Sir Tim Rice, Dame Zandra Rhodes, Peter Freestone, and costume designer Diana Moseley, the book is rich with intimate insights and fascinating stories, from the composition of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ to Mercury’s many shopping trips to Sotheby’s." The book costs £50. Free shipping in the UK without tracking, £3.99 with tracking in the UK, and international courier shipping available. www.hatchards.co.uk/book/freddie-mercury-a-world-of-his-own/sothebys/9781399956772

Looks interesting. There's a placeholder for it on Amazon so I'm going to hold out and see what they're charging.

Sotheby's only mentioned Hatchards but they didn't say "exclusively" so it may be available more widely. I've edited my post to reflect that. Amazon UK indicates a publication date of July 31 at this point.

This is a very exciting news !
I will buy the book as soon as possible. Actually, it got me more excited than most of the Queen products in the last 5 years. There's more and more new photos and new facts, thanks to this auction. Mongolian Rhapsody - who would have thought? Do we know how many pages in the book ?

The books looks amazing, but it seems it will be pricey as they're going to issue a hardback only. Amazon.it currently offers a pre-order for 60,79 EUR, and Amazon.fr for 61,67 EUR.

Yesterday I received notice from Sotheby's that this book would be available for pre-order. I jumped on it as soon as I opened the email. It took me almost six hours of frustration to finally get the book ordered. The site crashed more than once, and my credit card info would not go through despite multiple tries. I knew that Hatchards must be simply overwhelmed with orders. My frustration level reached a point where I had to walk away from the computer and resign myself to missing out on this one I came back after several hours and updated my browser. That seemed to do the trick and I was able to put my order in!! I'm excited to get the book later this summer.
I'd also like to get the catalog for the auction from Sotheby's, but I'm not sure that will be offered. LOL, I'm also not sure I want to fight with my computer over a book anytime soon.

On one hand, I stopped collecting Queen stuff years back and now find myself selling certain things, as they just sit there year after year gathering dust; but, on the other hand, this book looks beautiful and classy and I think I would find it a fascinating read. I know some of these limited edition Sotheby's books sell out pretty quick (I'm sure the Bowie one disappeared in no time) so I better make my mind up soon.

LOL, non sono nemmeno sicuro di voler litigare con il mio computer per un libro in qualsiasi momento presto. could pre-order on amazon (if you are not in england, because perhaps on sotheby's for britain it is cheaper)

A little more info on the book direct from Sotherby`s website. *This book features selected highlights across the sales. The full digital catalogue will be available to explore on Sothebys.com from early August." So it looks like the book will not contain everything that is up for auction! It seems to be a selection of items and a few stories.

I'm in the US, and it's not available on the US Amazon site yet. I considered taking the risk of waiting, but I decided to go ahead and treat myself with this book. I don't buy much Queen merch anymore, so I think I deserve it. : )

What I really want to know is if you will need to book to visit the exhibitiom, or just turn up and queue, as I'll hace to book tine off work and trains etc ( hopefully they won't be on strike). Anyone have any idea about this, or has it already been posted and I've missed it (apologies if that's the case)?

The book still only has a placeholder on Amazon UK, but not available to order. I wonder if the publisher holds them back from being listed on Amazon to get the most direct sales?

I'm not sure what a placeholder is, but I don't think Amazon US has one. I did go ahead and order the book from Hatcherds. I'm tempted to pre-order the Peter HInce book on Amazon, but I'm going to wait a bit. Just back from vacation and funds are tight.
