Sadly it's a tabloid doing the reporting, but David Wigg's podcast revealed this tidbit about the Manchester 86 show:
We now know Mercury was well aware of his illness on the Magic tour - Mary Austin has stated it categorically. Add it to the list of chilling statements from Mercury during that final tour, not least the Budapest interview where he says "if I'm still alive, I'll come back."
A prima donna he may have been for smashing a mirror to make a point, but we can't possibly imagine how hard it must have been for Mercury to be doing the biggest tour of their career whilst suddenly having to face his mortality.

interesting stuff. and very revealing. being reminded of one's own mortality, must be an impossible thing to wrestle with - with the diagnosis (as was in the 80s) being almost final.
being on the crest of a wave (career-wise) only to find himself floundering in the breakers (health-wise), the fragility of a superhero's ego vs the fragility of a mortal human body. wow.

Didn't that "clothes iron to a mirror" thing happen in '75, when David first met Freddie? Something about him being pissed off about a faulty mic?

And this makes it clear that they met in 75 - initially running into Freddie hanging with Mary and Kenny Everett.
Have you got another source pointing to the 75 story?
In that case, it's full on prima donna mode. And a few months later he even smashed a mirror over his assistant Pete Brown's head.

I remember the interview disc. I used to listen to a copy of that going home from college when I got nothing else to listen to. Tbh, I'm still looking for a source after I read your entry on your site where it mentioned how they met. I remember he did an interview for another tabloid around the time the movie came out. I'll have to find it, he might've mentioned something about '75 there.

I was at the Manchester show in 1986, the only issue with sound that day was having to listen to Belouis Some.......only other issue I recall from the gig was only one of the torches lit on Is This The World We Created.

David quotes him saying "We are number one and we have to be the best." They played Manchester November 26th 1975...they were topping the charts with Bo Rhap.
