Here are some of the ones I think could have made good singles: - "Doing Alright"
- "Some Day One Day"
- "In the Lap of the Gods... Revisited"
- "'39"
- "You and I"
- "My Melancholy Blues"
- "If You Can't Beat Them"
- "Coming Soon"
- "The Hero"
- "Put Out the Fire"
- "Man on the Prowl"
- "Don't Lose Your Head"
- "Was It All Worth It"
- "The Hitman"
- "Made in Heaven"
- "There Must Be More to Life Than This"
- "Dog with a Bone"

Man On The Prowl and Don't Lose Your Head? Really?! š¬ Doing Alright, ITLOTG..R and The Hero might have worked, as might IFCBT and MIH. I've said before, I'd have liked a proper longer version of The Hero. It's too short to be a single as it is. As for the rest, some might have worked but I'd have been surprised if any singles had been released without Freddie on lead vocal.

Just a few songs off the top of my head.
Machines (back in 1984). Action This Day. Dancer. Brighton Rock. Ride the Wild Wind. Cool Cat (back in 1982). I Can't Live with You. Rock It (Prime Jive).

I can't believe they released Body Language as the lead single from Hot Space it's the worst song on the album and possibly the worst Queen song ever.

Was it all worth it
Instead of Scandal, ideally.
I have a theory that if Freddie has gone a little earlier, wiawi might have been the valedictory anthem that SMGO became

Much like yourself the word "hang" springs to my mind too - as in: "I'd rather hang myself than listen to it all the way through again."

Queen: add My Fairy King Queen II: add White Queen SHA: swap Now I'm Here with Stone Cold Crazy ANATO: add '39 ADATR: swap Long Away with You and I NOTW: no changes Jazz: no changes (Jealousy is a poor choice for a single but that was US only so who cares) The Game: never been a fan of Play the Game but again, no viable alternative Hot Space: swap Body Language with Cool Cat The Works: no changes AKOM: no changes Miracle: swap The Invisible Man with Was It All Worth It Innuendo: no changes, but Don't Try So Hard would be a worthy addition if there weren't already so many singles MIH: I would probably swap Heaven For Everyone with Made in Heaven

absolutely not. there's no way that - in the world of 1973 - any song (no matter how good) titled My Fairy King would be a hit. There's just too much of an abusive slant/inference to the term "fairy".

First album and the band's already named Queen, better not double down on that.

Calling All Girls should have been released in the UK/Europe as well as North America instead of the awful Back Chat. Especially by August 1982 when it was obvious the public didn't like the 'dance' Queen.
How Freddie managed to convince the rest of the band and EMI to release Body Language as the lead single is beyond me. It's pretty crap although I do have a soft spot for the more concise live version they played on the US/Japan legs of the Hot Space tour.
Hot Space is the only album for me where they got the single choices badly wrong. Everything else is pretty much spot on.
The Works singles almost picked themselves but I'll always wonder how these would have fared as the A-side instead: Man On The Prowl, Machines, Keep Passing The Open Windows. Man On The Prowl could have been a hit IMO.

The Game: never been a fan of Play the Game but again, no viable alternative The Game is an odd one really, as the first two singles (certainly the first one) were stand alone, there's 3 songs with reasonably significant non-Freddie vocals, and only 10 altogether. Plus we know that AOBTD was not considered a viable single initially, and presumably Dragon Attack was seen as even less likely. Need Your Loving Tonight seems a reasonable candidate to me, but it did nothing when released after AOBTD, so maybe not.... Edit - NYLT did nothing in the US because AOBTD was still in the top 20 when it came out! FFS Elektra, hold it back! Of course, they actually couldn't as they already had Flash on the schedule for January

Sail Away Sweet Sister is a strong track, I reckon it would have made a good single. I would love to hear the Freddie version one day. Was It All Worth It - it holds it own against everything else on GHII Ride The Wild Wind Son and Daughter I canāt Live With You If You Canāt Beat Them Seaside Rendezvous Drowse

Yes, Rhys Thomas confirmed its existence a long time ago when he had access to the vaults. I think he was too forthcoming with information for Brian an Rogerās liking, his posts were deleted from memory

Even deleted posts have footprints... It was on Queenzone and it would be 2010-2012. It was great when he was involved because he was a genuine fan and was really passionate. I remember he commented on the other full song that Queen and Bowie did and in his opinion it was good enough to have been a follow up single. He spoke with a lot of excitement about the things he had seen and heard in the vaults, lucky bugger. Itās a shame that working relationship didnāt continue. Anyone know why they stopped working with Rhys?

Definitely Ogre Battle in North America. North Americans fucking loved Ogre Battle, on some AUDs you can hear Americans shouting for it all the way up to the Jazz tour. Maybe even The Game tour if I remember correctly. Could've been a pretty big hit.

More specifically, I think it was a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) thread from around 2012, when he was doing a Q&A about the upcoming Great Pretender documentary. But it seems that he divulged too much, because those answers were deleted not too long after it concluded.

I didn't find the bit about Freddie's vocals for that song but for whatever it's worth, there's still an archive version of the AMA (this is the oldest one available ), but I haven't identified/checked if all the deleted stuff are there. web.archive.org/web/20121018001923/http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/yywu6/iama_rhys_thomas_freddie_mercury_documentary

Just to play Devil's Advocate, what if those answers were removed, not because of over-sharing, but because they were incorrect? We know there's a Freddie vocal of Rock It, so could there have been a margin for error? That said, Freddie's vocal was on part of SASS, so I guess he could have done a vocal take of the whole thing.

Stone Cold Crazy - would have been interesting to see reaction to this song hitting the airwaves after KQ and NIH.
You and I - I would have released that over GOFLB
Need Your Loving Tonight - Love this song, as mentioned above could have been released further past AOBTD but would have ran into Flash. Should have been released in the UK.
The Hero - Wish the band had worked on a single version.
Staying Power over Body Language Dancer over Calling all Girls Cool Cat over Back Chat
Princes of the Universe as UK release. Great music video and wasnāt even released in their āhomeā country.
Was It All Worth It instead of Scandal (or even a proper release after Face It Alone)
The Show Must Go On should have been 2nd single.
I Canāt Live With You instead of Iām Going Slightly Mad
Let Me In Your Heart Again should have been a #1 hit. Should have got a proper release and promotion like Face It Alone did.
