Hello. Thanks for letting me join. I offer up my version of The Night comes down Video and hope to have more as the new mixes come out. I have been reading this forum for many years but dont usally have words but have pictures this time. Hope you enjoy. Cant wait to get my ears into the new box set from the little snips we have heard sounds great just wish less auto tune - it was what it was and a real human voice is not machine perfect and of course AI moving photos which was the drive to do my own video as even my son was distracted - brain mays eyes on the black and white section of the offical video OMG.

Simple question, I don't have time to read 19 pages of comments, is this box set worth it?

Simple question, I don't have time to read 19 pages of comments, is this box set worth it? Easy answer - it's up to you! To summarise, people are praising, people are moaning. Have a look at the content and see if you're happy with the price!

Simple question, I don't have time to read 19 pages of comments, is this box set worth it? In my opinion, yes it is. Just read the first couple pages of this thread and you'll find the answers you need. But the tracklisting speaks for itself - the hour of studio outtakes and live tracks going back to 1970 are worth the price of admission alone: superdeluxeedition.com/news/queen-queen-1-collectors-box-setPlus they found the 16 (?) track master tapes of the De Lane Lea demo, which means those songs will sound better than ever. I have little doubt this will be the best Queen release in decades.

I think with Sony taking over the shop, there's a high chance we might see all of what's in the vaults. We might have to weight awhile (i.e. Brian, Roger and John passing on and that might mean a fair few fans too), but I'm sure I'll hear it all when I'm 90, in 50 years time!

When they went back to EMI / Universal.....everything got reissued. Sony's first order of business is not going to be archive releases, it will be something with mass appeal to start recouping the investment..

Hi all.
I've been away for the past few weeks, but I've had the chance to read the latest updates on the boxset and listen to the new mix of 'The Night Comes Down' while on holiday. I've also read a lot of fan comments about the decision to adopt this mixing technique for this new release...
I have to say that I'm very excited about the 2024 Mix of TNCD and I'm honestly very curious to hear the rest of the album tracks; very excited about the unreleased live tracks too, hoping that the Imperial College gig will one day get its own release. I was a little disappointed to see the BBC and Rainbow Theatre tracks included, which are already available on other releases, but I was expecting this... I was also a little saddened by the lack of 'Polar Bear' (I know it's a Tim Staffell track from the Smile era, but I think the Queen version was worth adding to the sessions CD).
I haven't ordered 'Queen I' yet, but I think I'll just buy the vinyl. Hopefully 'Queen II' will get the same treatment as well!

I'm also 44 and I don't understand comments like the one you've written. Did you expect the Rainbow concert to be released? Did you expect songs from a 1970 concert to be released? Did you expect to hear 6 unreleased songs from the "The Miracle" sessions? Did you expect to hear "All dead, all dead" sung by Freddie? Did you expect to hear "Let me in your heart again?" I have no doubt that you will see the Innuendo videos on blu-ray. Kind regards.

Here's a guy showing the extent of pitch correction on the The Night Comes Down and speculating about why original take was a bit off, and proposing how fixing it could have been approached differently.

And "Fairy Feller's" live from 1974 / "Sleeping" live from 1977, probably the two most interesting recordings that they have released in the last 10 years (until 25th Oct 2024 at least!)

I gave the video another watch. The new sound continues to grow on me. But... What is supposed to be happening at 2:05? I don't mean to ask a stupid question like "please explain the art" but all I see is Elvis manifesting in the middle of a crowd. Is it supposed to be Freddie since it quickly cuts to Rainbow footage? What are your thoughts on what that is supposed to be?

That pitch correction is keeping me from being as excited as I could be about this release. It kills me. Why?? Why would they EVER think this is a good idea?! Why does anyone ever think using that stuff is a good idea? God I wish that stuff was never invented.

I can't suss out why the any of the pitch correction and autotune doesn't bother me in the slightest on any Queen song I've heard it on, and spending almost 20 minutes to become anathemetic over it seems like a gift I don't need to give myself.

The worst thing they could do... using A.i. to complete unreleased demos...

Sony's first order of business is not going to be archive releases, it will be something with mass appeal to start recouping the investment.. You are absolutely right about that...even in 1991, when Hollywood Records took over the rights from Capitol Records, the entire catalog was reissued. Sony will surely reissue the entire Queen studio/live catalog up to this point, but I think there will be some tasty releases in the near future. After all, the control of Brian, Roger, John and Freddie's estate after the dissolution of Queen Productions Ltd. should no longer affect future releases.
By the way, this 'Queen I? box set and all the products attached to it (CD, LP, picture disc and 7" single) are on the EMI label right? On the other hand, EMI Music Publishing has been owned by Sony Music Publishing for several years.

Compared to people with better ears than me, the autotune on his concert singing bothers me far less than on The Night Comes Down for the simple reason that if Freddie wasn’t happy with his vocal on any Queen record he would’ve done another take. There is no freakin way he wouldn’t have demanded the demo re-recorded at Trident if he wasn’t happy with his singing.

I can only imagine what the comments on here will be when the album is released and it's taking all the joy out of what would otherwise be a fairly monumental release.

With all due respect, have you watched the analysis video? Not all of it, but enough to get the gist of what he was saying, that they didn't need to do it in the way they have (or at all). But this is going to be a thing with all future releases. For me, I'm not going to let it spoil the enjoyment of a new Queen box set, which are all too few and far between.

People shat kittens over the tweaks to Live at the Rainbow, personally I couldn’t give a toss if they touch up a live album for the sake of a more polished listening experience. It’s not like overdubbing isn’t something that’s happened to a whole bunch of the most famous live albums ever released.
Personally I thought Rainbow was the best thing Queen have put out in decades.

Exactly. There's a whole Live Killers analasys on Bob's site, detailing all the cuts, edits, overdubbs, etc. This has been going on for decades. It's just that the technology has changed.
