It’s worth pointing out with these types of legacy remasters and remixes by major artists, yes, there is a commercial component to reissues, but let’s get real, if Brian and Roger wake up in the morning, (Burt and Ernie style perhaps), and go “how are we going to make a million pounds this week?” they don’t go “Got it! Let’s remix the first album.” If it’s money they want they’re phoning Sony to sell, or Adam Lambert to tour or Netflix to make the movie sequel. The only real reason Queen 1 is coming out is because they love their music the same way we do and they want to share in hearing it afresh. And unlike in 1973, shit loads of fans really freakin care about every note we hear, just like the band.

I’m very curious how the atmos mix will sound. Is it available for Modern Times anywhere on the same platform where TNCD was available? Has anyone heard the Atmos mix of TNCD? How has it been implemented? I can't believe they are only making the Atmos mix available via streaming platforms. Why put the effort in and not include it in the main physical media sets? That said, I don't have an Atmos system myself so will have to hope against hope that some form of 5.1 downmix appears at some point in the future as an Atmos solution worthy of the name isn't on the horizon for me at the moment.

Is it safe to assume the entire album will come in Atmos (or has it been said anywhere)? If yes then it's just a matter of waiting...

These are a couple of extracts from the little feature in the December copy of Mojo magazine which I found interesting.
"The latter disc also brings previously unreleased rarities including a cassette- sourced performance of Jesus - or "Big J", as Mercury calls him - from London's Imperial College in August, 1970; ie, prior to John Deacon joining Queen on bass. Elsewhere, a rare performance of early Queen song Hangman recorded in San Diego in March '76 is infinitely more meat-and-pota- toes, its obvious debt to key early influence Free likely explaining why it was never given the studio treatment." I've got to say I think the first thing I want to hear is indeed the 1970 recordings. This is only making me more desperate!
These are a few of the questions Brian answered:
How did it feel to revamp the sound of Queen's debut 50 years on? "It felt great! I'm not saying the original version was bad - it just wasn't what we dreamed of. Freddie and John, too, were always conscious of this thing in our past which seemed like it couldn't be fixed."
Roger's drum sound is a revelation. What else has been improved? "Everything. Every instrument has been re-examined from the bottom up. The guitars were originally recorded very dry, so we've remedied that. I remember my dad saying, 'There's no ambience, Brian. I don't feel like I'm in the room with you playing next to me.' But we weren't in a position to lay down the law, and we felt that if we stepped out of line we would lose the opportunity altogether. Roy Thomas Baker did an excellent job under the circumstances, but he was wedged between us young hopefuls and this management company [Trident Audio Productions] who saw us as a can of beans."
Queen's legacy clearly still matters to you. "Absolutely. The passion is still there. We still get angry if things aren't right, and it's still fun. We recently sold our wares to Sony, of course, so we're clearly not doing this for the money. When I pop off from this planet, I would like to know that I've done my best on anything that I ever touched."
Does John Deacon still have a say? "John still has a 'yes' or 'no' say. We get messages that he's happy with what we're doing, but he doesn't want the stress of being involved creatively, and we respect that. Freddie we can't talk to, sadly. But the four of us worked as a team for so long that Roger and I have a pretty good idea what our fellow Queen members would be saying. This thing is longer than anybody's marriage."

Brian said on last interview on Mojo that other record that he would like to remix is Queen II. So... Forgodsake they need to do a cronological release, everybody was waiting in 2016 the remaster of Hyde Park 76 because the line was Rainbow, Hammersmith Odeon and after this the Hyde Park... if Queen II is the next step on box sets i will sell my vinyl collection to by every Queen's box set hahahaha

I may be ignorant but I don't understand why in this channel I can't hear the hi hat. I am a drummer and whoever had ever recorded drums knows that a 10/20/30% of hi hat is present into every snare mic. Here is absolutely absent. It sounds just like they did a pattern on a drum pad (kick and snare). Too much polished. It is strange. If they did a clean up of audio return (it is possible knowing them) deleting hi hat signal from the snare drum mic, polishing all the tracks, I think that this work maY be overproduced/cleaned/patinated/almost fake because everything will sound so separated and cold. This is not a criticism, just a simple analysis I did. Wait to hear the whole work but I already know that these two tracks aren't as cool as the remixes of Steven Wilson or the Muse' Origin of symmetry. Here in Queen I' singles everything sounds plastic/fake/overproduced to me... Hope i am wrong. What do you think?

There are AI models to separate individual drums and cymbals now, which is surely what they did here. The one I use is DrumSep. The original multitracks from Sheer Heart Attack and A Night At The Opera which have leaked don't have very good separation between the drums, and I wouldn't imagine that the debut album's are much better. The lack of individual control between drums is a huge thing holding back the sound of most early Queen albums. This technology specifically would do wonders for Queen II and Jazz, ESPECIALLY Jazz. Jazz's snare drum sounds so bad because of how it was recorded, so even brand new multitrack mixes like the Bicycle Race 2011 instrumental mix couldn't fix how compressed it was. Using DrumSep on the room mics makes a "New" snare track, and it brings back the snare's natural ring.

I think Dolby mixes have about 6 channels as opposed to Stereo mixes having only 2. The center channel generally only consists of elements they want to have 'front and center' in the mix. which would be the main vocals up front, and other elements which need emphasis. In this case they have chosen to put the Kick and Snare (and not even all of them if I hear correctly) in that Center channel as well. So the full Dolby mix will probably have the hi-hat, toms and cymbals on the Left, Right, Rear-Left and Rear-Right channels. Nice to hear a stripped version like this.

The Night Comes Down is a proper single, I'd say Modern Times Rock 'n' Roll is a promotional single to remind people that the box set is coming. I can't imagine there being another single now unless they've got a song in mind which is going to have a video. Son And Daughter would be a strange choice just because it's been a B-side before as someone else pointed out. To me it will be a Freddie song as Brian and Roger have had one each, My Fairy King seems a possibility but I wouldn't even rule out Mad The Swine just because the amount of mentions it's been getting in the press releases. But the official videos of Keep Yourself Alive and Liar haven't returned to the official channel, surely they'll be a big hoo-ha when that happens.

The fact is I'm not convinced by Brian saying The Night Comes Down wasn't played live. He forgot the band played It's A Hard Life for the duration of The Works Tour when at the Prince's Trust Rock Gala in 2010 he introduced it as a song they had never played live before...
It sounds fascinating with Hangman, the fact they have lyrics of it but no studio recording of it. I'll maintain the fact that a 1976 recording is probably the most superior version you can get of a song that sounds like now since the box set was announced in the realms of See What A Fool I've Been or more alike the Rock 'n' Roll medley they used to do.
I've got to say this is the most fascinating Queen period for me now, I don't think I've anticipated a release more than this one. It could explain so much we didn't know but also rewrite what we thought we already knew.

I wonder if Hangman’s lyric from live in San Diego 1976 will be different than from early shows from. 1973 for example
