I can only say one thing: I want the complete Imperial College and San Diego 76 recordings! This may sound insane, but I actually think there's a higher probability of the 1970 show coming out before the 1976 one. They only used San Diego for this release because they don't have multi-tracked live versions of those two songs (they do have Earls Court for Doing All Right, but apparently the piano mic vocal didn't record on both nights). But the historical interest may well see more of the 1970 tape being released at some point. Yesterday I was reading Queenlive.ca (long time I didn't!!) and checked some info over there about this Queen 1 new release, just wanted to correct a tiny date about Hangman being played live, now that I have the chance. Hangman was played live up to 1977. About this new release, I'm loving it and listenting to it almost on a daily basis. Superb!!!

Love 99% of what is in the box set and have enjoyed reading through everyones views. I need to give it another good hear when I get the house to myself but love the band talking and working around the tracks disc - even if its not 100% in the moment/at that moment but is new to me never heard. I have never heard Hangman but sorry it was a B side at best to me and see why they worked on other tracks for future albums but good to have and good quality. Some have Great King Rat as a highlight and so if you are one of those I have made a video for it and what better time and hope you find it a treat.
That was really good! Well done mate

If you're going to offer corrections to other people's sites, I don't think it unreasonable for the site owner to ask for the facts to be corroborated. Ryan's post may have been a little sarcastic, but I don't think it requires moderator intervention.

That's the second claim you've made on this one page that's, to put it kindly, extraordinary. Either back up your claims with some evidence, or lose your remaining credibility. Those are the choices, nothing else.

One more thing: I love the intro to My Fairy King on the sessions disk that they couldn’t get right. Since this is labeled “Trident Backing Track in Development” this is obviously early in that song’s recording. I love the way this song starts on the album, but it’s fascinating to hear this ultimately unused opening. And John’s voice makes an appearance between all the attempts at getting it right! Actually, the opening is exactly the same as on the album. The intro just lacks Brian's guitar part and that's why it sounds different. The guitar makes such a difference here. Without it, the intro is just hi-hats and a couple of chords on a piano. Oh my - you are so right! I just listened to the full song again and the backing track is there underneath the guitars. Never paid any attention to it before. Makes me love the song and this box set even more. And makes me more impressed by bands (and producers and engineers) and their ability to layer sounds to create the ultimate song. The more I listen to stems and backing tracks and some remixes (and not just of Queen songs) the more amazed I am at the little individual things that are mixed together to create the whole song.

It's from Gary Taylor's Touring North America book (claiming it was done in Memphis that tour), and is otherwise completely unsubstantiated (as ever, his work occasionally becomes historical fiction, although not quite as much as Greg Brooks.)

Sorry, I hate to talk down on the work of a passionate fan, but I'm of the opinion that all generative AI is low effort, soulless slop. It was bad with TNCD, and although you gave more attention to detail here, it still feels soulless and hollow. I appreciate the effort you put into naturally integrating the footage, but it's still just devoid of any creativity or artistic intent. (In comparison to say, All Dead, All Dead's fantastic video.) Your effort is clearly more visible than QPL's video made for The Night Comes Down, but I dislike both. I'd rather get punched in the gut than kicked in the balls, but I don't appreciate either.

Bit unfair Miles. Considering it's an amateur production, it's pretty good and, as you say, better than the official Queen channel's production of TNCD. Sure, the concert visuals don't match, but since there's no video of GKR from that time period that I'm aware of, he's done his best (I'm assuming the creator is a he - some folks get worked up about pronouns these days). It IS a shame there's so much repetition of the rat in the hat visual, but the opening scenes show some imagination and the manipulated image of Freddie singing "Wouldn't you like to know" is at least in sync, which is more than I can say for other "Ai" works. Frankly i wouldn't even know how to do what he's done! Onto a different note: The Official Queen Channel. I think it should be apparant to everyone these days that shamefully the channel has limited, or no access, to the Queen archives, other than what's already out there in the public domain and most likely has a very limited budget as well, meaning that pretty much everything probably has to be done in-house. I think we got lucky with the All Dead video that a bit of money was thrown at it to be made by someone with an artistic talent. The days of DoRo cutting clips videos together have (thankfully) long gone and cheaply produced animations with a bit of Ai thrown in appear to have replaced that. When you don't have a band anymore that you can put in a film studio and create something new with, what DO you do for a promo video? I'm afraid Ai IS the way forwards and, as the people who are using it learn how to do more and more with it, the results will improve and we will have a proper, fluid, digitally created band again, performing on stage and in other scenarios for promo videos. Just so long as there's something blatantly noticible about the images that show it's not real.

Just a side note - in English you can use "they" in such a case (when gender is unknown and / or not essential to the matter), and that's not even a modern woke invention

In the Queen I unboxing video on Youtube Brian mentions that the band never played The Night Comes Down live. That gives even less credence to the supposedly 'handwritten by Freddie' setlist for the 1972 King's College gig that mentions the song.

He said they'd never played It's a Hard Life before the 2010 Princes Trust Gala, but they played it at every show on The Works tour. I think there may be other instances of him saying such things, but that's the one that came to mind. Not saying the setlist is real, just that Brian saying they never played it is not slam dunk evidence that they didn't.

It may have been written beforehand and the song was subsequently dropped for the actual show.

Genuinely couldn't give a f*** if they ever played it live, unless there's a recording of it that we can listen to. My point was Brian's memory is not proof either way. He probably remembers things the other way too. Songs he thinks they played live that they only ever did in the studio or soundchecks. My wish list for live releases is topped by an official release with It's Late on it.

I don't know if anyone has touched on this topic (I haven't had time to read the whole thread), but what do you think about the absence of "Polar Bear" on the CD dedicated to the studio demos? True, the song was written by Tim Staffell (or Brian May) for Smile (who recorded it in 1969), but in my opinion the Queen version could have easily found a place in this box set... after all, even if not perfect from a vocal point of view, it was recorded in the 1972 sessions (like "Doing All Right", another Smile song) and although it was discarded from the first album and from every official record after that, I think they could have included it in this new release... I would have very much liked to listen to a new mix of this track.

And I totally agree with you about an official, well produced live version of It's Late. It's been one of my personal holy grails for as long as I can remember. I'm still bitterly disappointed that they ruined the BBC version with that section from GDML shoehorned into the middle of it.

I was stopped in traffic listening to the last song on the 3rd sessions disc, when I spontaneously invented some crap alternative lyrics to SWaFIB.
Instead of "Greyhound bus had gone" or "Sixteen coaches long", I sang "Jesus fucking Christ".
I have enjoyed listening to the Queen I box set in my car (downloaded from Amazon) for the past 10 days. My CD allowed me to quickly compare the various versions of songs, because (unfortunately) my single mp3 CDR DATA disc was mistakenly recorded in alphabetical order by Windows Media Player. I had dragged the following PC file folders into Windows Media Player, but it did not recognize the file folders ... Queen I - Disc 1 - 2024 album mix Queen I - Disc 2 - De Lane Lea Queen I - Disc 3 - Sessions disc Queen I - Disc 4 - Instrumental Queen I - Disc 5 - BBC Queen I - Disc 6 - Live
At some point, I will need to create a single file folder of songs numbered from 01 to 63 and then drag those individual songs into Windows Media Player to rerecord my mp3 CD disc (hopefully in numerical order), but I am in no hurry after OD-ing on this Queen I box set.

I think they'll keep some stuff for future releases (Anthology or Archive releases with 6 cds of demos). Of course this is fantasy but it would be important for the sales. Maybe Polar Bear and the Hangman acetate will be part of a future release of demos... who knows it... the same for silver salmon recorded during the notw sessions and not included in the 2017 boxset... or Affairs with miracle/Innuendo... If you think about... Silver salmon, affairs, polar bear, the studio rock n roll medley (or maybe hangman) are all "rehearsing live takes" cd so... maybe it could make sense to have this "rehearsals sessions" This is the only explaination i can give to myself... Just pure fantasy of course...

I finally got my box set from FedEx today! So nice to have the book. Going through the tedious process of importing the discs into my ancient iTunes, to then import into my iBroadcast library, onto my thumb drive, etc. I'm excited to listen to the Queen I At The BBC disc, since I've had Queen At The BBC (Beeb) and am accustomed to that. I almost asked what recordings of the songs are on that album, but it's noted right on the linked Wiki page which dates they used. It'll be nice to hear the additional performances and compare. I still haven't listened to this Queen I BBC disc, I've been so fixated on the other content.

Anyone else noticed some of the mixing errors?
E.g. Son and Daughter: 0:58 - There is a leak in the vocal track of Freddie saying "shit" a second or two after him actually singing it, but totally not on the beat. The Night Comes Down: 0:51 - Another vocal leak during the guitar crescendo - maybe Brian saying "Mmm"
I think there was at least one more but I can't remember it now.
