I think this one from Edinburgh on June 1st, 1982 was good. Probably one of the best live performances of the song.

In terms of the full presentation, I believe the newly surfaced San Diego 1980 version is the best one out there. Freddie's vocals are outstanding and go head to head with the Crazy Tour versions. His tone is still very reminiscent of the earliest versions. On top of that, the band put in their best showing for the song to date and is the earliest circulating version where Brian started playing the ending piano chords on the guitar.

Liverpool is still without a doubt a top version! As are all the available Crazy Tour versions 😍

I think that version is average because I like Freddie playing piano more Understandable. I will say I did listen to the the performance from Caracas in 1981 and even with the bad quality, he does do it a bit better.

My favorites are probably from Newcastle 2/4/1979 and Toronto 8/2/1982. The Toronto gig's pretty underrated in my opinion, and Save Me from it just in particular is one of the songs that stood out to me. Love Mercury's vocals on there, it's quite very powerful and the instrumentals themselves aren't half bad in that gig. Really wish there was a higher quality tape from it! Newcastle's self-explanatory as per usual of the song in the Crazy tour

Although I can't name a specific date, I have to say that I like the earlier version much more than the 82 version, because of Brian playing only the first verse on Piano in 82. For me it works much better with Brian playing Piano for first and second verse

Wembley Arena, London Dec. 8, 1980 (captured on the 'Flash Alive' bootleg LP).

San Diego 1980. Every other version is demolished by Freddie's raw power during that show, plus the band is on fire.

Apolls if not appropriate for this thread. However can anybody remember which gig it was where Freddie had a mistake at beginning of Save Me & laughs saying something like “well that didn’t start off so well!”

Sounds like “I’ll turn you into a frog if you don’t watch it”, which I guess means someone called him a witch?

Ah – maybe it’s Belgian?

Ah – maybe it’s Belgian? Maybe, although Belgian isn't a language.

I just listened to the lossless flac and tried to make it more audible but failed. But it definitely doesn't sound like "Belgian". It more sounds like sth along "in per tune" but Ik that doesn't make any sense

I thought he said "What did you say you urchin?" I'm almost 100% that's what he says....I have since I first heard that boot in '83. And you can just imagine Freddie using that word to address one of his 'subjects'.

Not my favourite Save Me, but my god this moment is absolutely incredible, no other live attempt of this phrasing comes even CLOSE to the raw power of this one.
