Randomly received an email advertising The Fizz’s upcoming album “Everything Under The Sun”. As a Queen fan I found this part noteworthy: Another fact for you SAW fans out there: The track Everything We Do (We Do It For You) is a Stock/Waterman demo from 1992. Originally written as Everything We Do (Is Driven By You) it was a potential song for the latest Ford tv advert and has remained unheard for 30 years - until now! The ad was eventually given to Brian May of Queen. Mike Stock explains the reasons for including the song: "The brief for the original Ford commercial, for which it was intended, asked us to pay homage to all the Ford owners who over the years had remained faithful to the brand. At the time Ford were not launching a new model, but they wanted an advert which kept everyone interested and showed Ford's love and respect for their customers. Of course we didn't get the gig, Brian May did but in thinking about The Fizz and forty years as a brand, I remembered the track and thought with a bit of tinkering it could work well as The Fizz thanking their long-standing supporters. Seems to work!"
Thoughts?

The song was released on the Ford advert in mid '91, so precedes the Fizz demo by nearly a year, at least and therefore would not have been a contender for the advert if the advert was showing on TV already.

Not sure what's going on with those dates as you mentioned, but they're not saying they wrote Brian's song. It sounds like both The Fizz and Brian were given the same slogan to work with by Ford, and Ford went with Brian. Partial quote from the Driven By You press release: "And he [ad producer] says, ‘Oh, you write songs don’t you?’ I [Brian] said, ‘Yeah, I write songs.’ He said, ‘Well could you write a song for an advert? Have you ever done that?’ And I went, ‘No, I’ve never done it.’ He asked, ‘Would you like to?’ And I said, ‘Yes, I’d be very interested.’ He then asked me how I would feel about a slogan that goes, ‘Everything we do, we do for you’. And I went, ‘Yeah, I could relate to that’ because I can feel that in my own mind about my own self. And it got modified later on. It became ‘Everything we do is driven by you’ because it was about cars and I liked that even more."

2 thoughts....
1) they simply got the year wrong? 2) So the title ISN'T Brian's.... it was 'given' to him?
Curious...

The title was part of the ad slogan that the agency Ford used provided the songwriters, so it makes sense that they would use a particularly engaging bit of the slogan as inspiration to write a jingle around. edit: and yeah they must’ve gotten the year wrong, unless they were going to do an update to the commercial/slogan in ‘92 but then decided against it.
