His performance had Roger playing drums (and later singing YNWA with everyone) and there was a moment when the guitar sounded very reminiscent of Brian. Is there a collaboration (even one song) in the pipeline…?

Is there a collaboration (even one song) in the pipeline…? I saw a very brief second of that, and I thought is that Roger? Then I thought no... and switched off. So, it was! I'd have thought if Brian was on it as well he'd have shown himself.

I saw it! Quite the surprise, but then again Roger picked Sam for the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert. They'll probably do something together again.

I see the UK came second to last. That's actually worse than coming last! At least you're remembered for coming last. 🤣🤣

Disappointed actually. Shoved to the side of the stage with only a handful of short camera cuts to him. He may as well not have been there. Frankly the director wants shooting (as does Sam!) for not having the two next to each other during the guitar solo at the very least. Had it been me, I'd have had Roger at the foot of the platform Sam was singing on.
Having Brian there would have made it even better, but then that would have taken away from Sam being the main focus.

I couldn't even hear Roger's signature sound, so I guess he was just there for show. I suppose he might appear in Sam's next studio album, as both are probably getting on well. Sam does mention Roger during the performance at least!

I get impression they like to help out when Roger Roger it Brian spot what they consider talent ; hence the Hawkins tribute .
I enjoyed it but couldn’t really hear Roger that well .
I do like Sam ; he is from my neck of the woods . I think he has a good voice and can certainly hit those high notes Freddie often struggled with .

Surprised no one has mentioned it here, but Roger Taylor performed with Sam Ryder on his new single performance at Eurovision. I can only imagine the director had no clue who it was because he got so little screen time despite being called out by the singer. Eurovision is never a bastion of great music, which is emphasised by the best music in the show not being in the competition. I.e. Sam Ryders new single which is absolutely fine, and the Liverpool songbook medley which was excellent. (apart from Sonia... oh dear... She's younger than me but looks like my nan) You can see Sam Ryder with Roger Taylor here

Ps, Does anyone else wonder if that's Brians guitar we can hear? I know that's not what I'm looking at, and maybe its just because Roger IS there, but if you told me Brian did the solo I'd believe you.

When watching it I thought so too - could have been a confirmation bias and surely if it was Brian he would have been there. I wondered if it signalled a collab but apparently this is a song that is already out there (I am very off the pace with modern music….) rather than one that was waiting for release. So if it was Brian he would have told us all. And he hasn’t. So I guess it isn’t

Then again, if his performance at the Queen's Platinum Jubilee last year is anything to go by, Ryder is pretty tasty on the guitar himself.

I guess there's a possibility it might have been a backing track? In Eurovision contestants are singing live but all instruments are in playback - this is for organisational reasons, the show is already long as it is and there would be no time to re-set the instruments after every act. I'm assuming this goes for guest acts as well, so I'm pretty sure Roger was miming the performance (and he sure looked like he wasn't breaking a sweat!). And if that was a backing track anything is possible, even that Brian contributed with some guitar licks... I'm not an expert on guitars so I won't weigh in further, but as a Queen fan the guitar parts did sound a little bit familiar!

I'll risk sounding like a dumbass if Brian suddenly pops on Instagram coming out as a guest guitarist on the single, but... It doesn't sound like Brian to me at all. The overdubs sound very Queen-like, but the individual licks don't sound very Brian May to me (but then, Brian himself has played lots of things that didn't sound like him up to that point), and the guitar tone sounds a bit thin compared to him.
But it sounds great, and it's refreshing to hear a beautiful guitar solo on a modern pop song on TV.

His guitar solo in the performance of Spaceman at the Platinum Jubilee is very much the same kind of style as the one at Eurovision. Scroll to 3:00 if you don't want to hear the whole song:
I'd argue that he might be miming to a backing track as it sounds almost too good for a rather frantic live performance, but I think it could be him playing.

Pretty sure he is singing live and he does also play the guitar . Queen are one of his favs apparently so maybe he has taken inspiration from Brian in his style of playing
