Looks like the Highlander remake will use Queen songs from the original movie… I guess they finally realised what made the original so immortal. it certainly wasn't Gimme The Prize, One Year of Love or Don't Lose Your Head |

The director says the Queen songs will be in the new movie but “probably in a different way than you think.” So A Kind of Magic will open the movie and Princes of the Universe will play during the closing credits?

When I read that part of the article, the first thing that came to mind was the possibility of other bands covering the Queen songs that featured in the original movie. If you're going to remake and refresh the movie, why not the soundtrack? One Year Of Love, as we know it, just doesn't belong in a modern big-budget movie. It would also allow them to release a soundtrack album that isn't mostly the A Kind of Magic album. I think Muse would be a good fit to cover Princes of the Universe. |

I actually think One Year of Love could fit with the movie if sung in more of a ballad style. I would have loved to have Freddie do a softer more toned down version. There are some great vocalists out there who could do it justice, although I’m leaning towards a female singer. Keep it simple with a pure voice.
Don’t lose Your Head sounds very dated but I still enjoy it. Maybe a decent remix could bring it up to speed? Just keep William Orbit well away from the project.
I think they could use the soundtrack version of A Kind of Magic and introduce that lesser known version to a new audience.
Princes of The Universe is classic Queen, some awesome writing from Freddie. I don’t think I would like to hear anyone else cover it.
Also, for the record, I’ve always loved Gimme The Prize. I love the raw power in Freddie’s voice.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they do get other musicians to cover some of the soundtrack. I just hope they choose wisely.
Either way, whatever they do it’s great to hear the songs will feature in one way or another

I never was a huge Highlander guy, but the one thing i do know is the fans of the movie want Queen music in it, not artists covering Queen. The two obvious classics Should be in there, and For the record I like Gimme The Prize and One Year Of Love, the latter could have a better vocal in the vaults, but i still like the song.

Exactly this Mike ^. Having other artists cover these songs would be a huge mistake resulting in missed revenue for the studio and record company.
Pulling these songs into our current age by reimagining/remixing with, maybe, additional new recordings of orchestra etc could be very interesting.

He specifically said the music would feature, but not in the way you may imagine. Which made me imagine it thus.
Rather like the way Highlander 2 has 'A Kind Of Magic' on the Jukebox in 2024, I wonder if it would be a case of in scene background music during scenes set in the mid 80's and so part of the film itself rather than part of the soundtrack. It would be a very meta thing to do, but gives them a way to feature Queen without infringing on the creative soundtrack choices.
Having said that, would be stunned if someone doesn't get pulled in to do a new version of WWTLF for the end credits.
I cant imagine the movie would do more than nod to Queen, it's creatively stifling to restrict themselves to it.
Also, just realised the remake is coming out in the year HighlanderII was set.
