Hi everyone.
There has been talk in recent hours about hypothetical reissues - 'The Works' was brought up, which turned 40 a few days ago; in this regard, I would like to share with all of you an article that appeared in Billboard magazine on 2nd March 1991, almost 33 years ago, which specifically talks about reissues. Titled Queen Gets Red-Carpet Treatment. H'wood Records Reissuing Back Catalog, speaks precisely of the republication of the band's catalog on the American market: the journalist Dave Dimartino, through the words of Roger Taylor and Brian May, explains the band's intention to recover the 'lost success ' of recent years in North America. It is explained that Queen's catalogue, which Hollywood Records has just acquired from Elektra and Capitol Records, will be released in various installments over the course of the year and that each album will have some bonus tracks; a sort of campaign similar to the one adopted some time earlier by Rykodisc with the re-release of David Bowie's catalogue. Roger also explains that he does not want to experience the situation that Paul McCartney had to endure when Michael Jackson bought part of the music publishing of the Lennon-McCartney catalogue.
The article concludes by talking about the new album 'Innuendo' and the single 'Headlong' (which was released in the States four months before the UK and Europe) and the fact that, as with the previous 'The Miracle', all the songs were credited to Queen rather than to the individual composer. An interesting passage can be found in the last lines: the journalist draws attention to the fact that Queen does not seem to intend to go on tour and asks Brian and Roger the reasons why; obviously, May and Taylor justify the fact that Freddie no longer feels comfortable, both mentally and physically, enduring a long tour. Reading this article today, I can't imagine how difficult it was to handle a certain type of question given Freddie's situation at the time. Personally, I found this article interesting and I hope you find it interesting too by reading it.
