Hello everybody.
Today I post here a review of the album 'The Miracle', written by journalist Johnny Dee and published in the English music magazine Record Mirror on 27th May 1989, just five days after the album was released in the UK.
The review is very positive: Johnny Dee praises every song on the album (on the title track in particular he says it has no rivals in terms of lyric writing); other particularly appreciated songs are 'The Invisible Man' (for its guitar solo) and the autobiographical 'Was It All Worth It'. Dee therefore gives a score of five stars out of five to Queen's new album. Have a good reading!

Ouch. Seems the writer has been ordered against his wishes to make it a positive review and he's said 'OK you want positive, that's what you'll get.' Feels very much like a pee-take.

Totally agree. The line about politicians having to take notice of the title track is the giveaway. Or he's just totally insane?

Yeah it reads as very insincere, almost patronising.

Woolworths (of all places) had their own monthly music magazine you could pick up free in-store in 1989. Their review of the album wasn't very complimentary and went something like this:
'Freddie and the boys are back with their 13th studio album and in the opening track (Party) they (or drummer Roger Taylor at least) want to prove they're still capable of having fun. Elsewhere there's the one about saving the world (The Miracle), the weird one they release as a single (I Want It All), a few love songs (half of the rest) and a few rockers (the other half of the rest)'.
I remember thinking it sounded like the reviewer had only listened to Side A. Roger had minimal involvement in Party (the other 3 wrote it and most of the drums were programmed). The 'few love songs' must have referred to Breakthru, Rain Must Fall & My Baby Does Me, presumably Was It All Worth It, Scandal & Khashoggi's Ship were the 'rockers'. A very lazy review.
