Most of this was discovered quite a while back and used for Chinwonder's brilliant video compiling all the footage from the US News of the World Tour, seen here, but I thought I would document a few of the findings on the forum here for you guys to read. A few months back, when Chinwonder was creating his News of the World Tour video, I was helping him analyze a few clips that Bob Harris and his crew shot to pick apart a few of the possible dates. We and a few others found that the piece of footage showing Freddie from behind (the clip below: 1:02:48 if the timestamp doesn't work) does not match the Houston video, in particular how Freddie moves his arms. It's close, but it's definitely not from Houston. Likely from Atlanta or Fort Worth. Someone did have a video directly comparing the film and the in-house video, but when I tried to search back for it, it was either deleted or set to private. And also, we checked the soundcheck footage that has been labeled as Atlanta, but I'm pretty sure It's Houston, as the interior shape and seating is near identical to the shape of the Summit, whereas The Omni's seating arrangement wasn't as rounded (I checked pictures from several era's to verify). You can also see the in-house camera's on the soundcheck footage. Video camera from the soundcheck next to Brian's head, with a shot of the interior of the venue as well. And here is a shot of The Summit's interior later on. The seating, architecture, and even some of the lighting is identical. The soundcheck is definitely from Houston and not Atlanta. But that's not it, as there seems to also be a video clip of Fort Worth as well. Not of the actual show (unless that concert clip above proves to be), but the take-down of the equipment after the show. The screencap below is from one of the documentaries released in 2017. As you can see, the seating is far different from that of Houston, so the likely candidates are either Atlanta or Fort Worth, and it's most definitely the latter, as I checked the venue seating arrangements again for this one. Fort Worth Convention Center and The Omni below, respectively. Obviously it's not The Omni, and while the more modern shot of the Fort Worth Convention Center isn't exactly what it was in 1977, it's similar enough that I think we can call it here.

Fascinating! You put the best pictures to compare the venues and it's all very clear now.

I always wondered if that was Fort Worth or not.

I don't think it's from Houston, because the band is rehearsing Spread Your Wings and this song isn't on the Houston setlist, so why would they rehearse a song that wouldn't be played that evening? It makes no sense...

Paul McCartney usually delivers a one-hour soundcheck with a completely different set list to the show (consisting in many 50's covers), albeit for one or two songs. Some VIP packages include a soundcheck pass.

I just have big doubts that it's from Houston. www.queenlive.ca/queen/77-12-08.htmFor example here on the queen live ca page of the Atlanta concert they say it comes from the Atlanta soundcheck.

Fun fact: queenlive.ca is not infaliable. In fact, corrections are made all the time to it, several of which I have contributed to. But in order to correct info, you need to have pretty convincing evidence, which I believe this thread has provided. You have contributed nothing besides saying "I don't believe it because this guy says otherwise" without any proper justification. If you read the actual post, you'd probably agree with me. For the record, the owner of queenlive.ca liked this thread and probably agrees with the findings and just forgot to update it. The Real Wizard what do you think?

I never said you were absolutely wrong, I just said I had doubts that's all, but yes I didn't provide convincing evidence indeed (not even at all).

Maybe it could be Providence's soundcheck? I know it sounds crazy like this but I have some evidence to bring (maybe not very convincing but just in case)
For example, I think the shape of the room matches the photo of Brian (doing a souncheck), the position of the seats, and the speakers, but also the big panel that hangs from the ceiling in the middle of the room, but also the location of the stand (where Roger's drums are placed) is the same on the video as on the photo of Providence (ie in the middle).
And it would make more sense because Freddie repeats SYW in the soundcheck video we have which is named as being Houston or Atlanta, which is not played in Houston, and we have no certainty about Atlanta that he played it there.
And then that would explain why we have a picture of Brian doing a soundcheck and why Freddie rehearse SWY.

Honestly I don't see any reason to really disagree with Ryan, the venue photos he provided match up with the footage, and as people have said, it's not actually that uncommon to play songs in a soundcheck that you don't actually play at the show, Puebla 1981's soundcheck has both Rock It and Under Pressure being performed, the former not even being referenced in any form at either show (unsure about the latter since while it wasn't played at the time, it was referenced at some shows around that time), so I don't see any reason for it not to be the same situation here with SYW.

Not Providence, the color of the seats is wrong.
Furthermore, check out the color of the seats in the footage, identical to the Summit photo provided in the OP.

Also, a TV camera can be seen to the left of Brian, which indicates that the soundcheck was filmed in Houston

I don't think it's from Houston, because the band is rehearsing Spread Your Wings and this song isn't on the Houston setlist, so why would they rehearse a song that wouldn't be played that evening? It makes no sense... Freddie played In The Lap Of The Gods in a Japan '79 rehearsal, the band played Under Pressure in GFP '81, surely there's many more examples that weren't caught on tape. Soundchecks are loose, why would they confine themselves to the small set that they have when they have countless songs in their catalogue to noodle around with?

And we don't even have to stop at soundchecks! Just remember Freddie pulling out random old songs on the piano (like The Millionaire Waltz in 79 and 81 or My Fairy King in 82, 84 and 85), Brian teasing off with '39 a couple of times after the Crazy Tour and stuff like this
