In this interview on YT are 33:15, Rudi says that he planned to interview Freddie with his outfit on the set of "Sligthly Mad". He asked Jim Beach for an interview and Jim said no, adding that "I'm not sure he ever asked Freddie for it". He regrets not asking Freddie directly for the interview. It never happened, but it's interesting to think how it would have been filmed and which questions Rudi would have asked.

He said a bit later that the footage of penguin's defecating comes from the crew that he had to shoot this interview. Interesting.

Yes indeed, the team who filmed the behind the scenes footage were there for an interview. I think it was the Austrian team of Dolezal/Rossacher, Rudi mentioned it in another video. On a side note, it's always the same thing with this subject; whenever we talk about Freddie's last days or his illness people get offended of are afraid to talk. Aids is part of Freddie/Queen's story/history so I don't see why there's a problem talking about it as long as it's in good taste.

You've gone a bit soon there, getting your argument in before there's any indication that it's warranted.

Thank you for posting this video, very interesting.
I wonder if Rudi's channel warrants its own thread (or if this thread should be retitled/dedicated). There are so many valuable titbits he is sharing that we have never heard before.
Really hope he gets his book published too. Two unseen concepts for the Invisible Man video, would love to see the sketches for that.

Yeah it's fun to watch and listen because I've learned few things since he started to become active on YT/Instagram. For him, Slightly Mad was the last video, that's why he wanted to do a "final" interview with Freddie. Rudi was criticized a lot over the years, but contrary to Peter Freestone or PG (the disc-jockey who's pretending to be a close friend of Freddie), he doesn't try to put words in Freddie's mouth. By the way, knowing that he tried to do an interview with Freddie, I'm a little bit angry at Jim Beach because while he tried to protect Freddie at the same time he prevented us from having Freddie's final words in from of a camera...

That's a way of seeing it. But I simply don't agree.

If he hadn't gotten an interview during Miracle videos, no tangible chance he would have gotten it during IGSM videoshoot.

I suppose we can guess, that Freddie had told Jim he didn't want to do any on screen interviews, after around 88-89. It seems Rudi wishes now he had maybe stepped 'out of line' in asking Freddie directly, but as a professional, he respected the pecking order. Perhaps in that moment during IGSM, Freddie would have been game. Interesting nevertheless, that Rudi was an actual friend of Freddie and visited him at home etc, but in business questions, still went though Jim.

The one exception was the little bit he did at the mixing decks for The Hollywood records press kit.

It would have been nice to get a last interview, but I have to say it is somehow beautifully poetic that Freddie said goodbye at the end of the Days of Our Lives video. The “I still love you” and walking away with a flourish are magical.

The “I still love you” and walking away with a flourish are magical. Don't know why, but that part always bothered me. Especially the 'I still love you' part. I mean the album has already been released at that moment which means that the line has also already been recorded long before the video shooting took place. It seems to me that they want to sell it as something spontaneous. For example Rudi said, that Freddie decided to say goodbye by whispering the words to the camera. Jim said, that freddie was saying it to him. But the truth is, the lyrics were simply prerecorded on the tape. I mean, yeah. I think he knew it was his last time in front of a camera and that makes it so special. But the I Still Love You part has already been there and that didn't happen on set.

Well there were probably a million ways the line could have been filmed, but the one that was the most magical was Freddie looking at the camera, saying the words, and walking away. It has nothing to do with the fact that the song had been out for a few months by this point, or that the message behind the song is more about looking at life through your children's eyes; it has more to do with the symbolism behind the take that was used.

I have thought of that too, the I still love you part was definitely recorded earlier when the song was done. I just meant the way Freddie used it as his goodbye, the drama of looking up and coming down with the little smile, making it more significant than just what was recorded. And of course the swing of his arm...all of that made it just the perfect end. I’m sure I read a lot into it though, as a fan wanting that intentionally dramatic goodbye message.

Rudi was asked to do the Freddie shots first and limit the amount shot to the absolute minimum number of takes possible, when finished Freddie specifically asked to do one more, and that was the "I still love you" bit. This is according to what Rudi says, when reviewing the footage he realised it was what Freddie wanted to be the last thing, a goodbye.
I wouldn't want a last interview, even the behind the scenes footage is too much, we didn't need to see Freddie at the monitor concerned about how thin his wasiteline looked with his shirt hanging off him without any shape.
