Haven't listened to that last ep yet. I've had so much on my plate this week (nothing bad, fortunately). Would anyone here agree to have a FB group (or, even better, WhatsApp!) to discuss the podcast content in (more or less) real time? Yes, but never FB, and not sure I can carve out three hours in a single hit - what time of day is it likely to be?

I'm way behind, still on Queen II side black episode. Got too many podcasts on the go at the same time and not enough time to listen to everything.
Love the podcast though, it's really well put together but the only thing I'd change is for them to have someone that has an intimate knowledge of their live shows, or even stuff like bootlegs because it seems like the people on the panel just don't have that deep an interest. Although, having said that they might but QP may have told them not to discuss certain things or talk about things that are too controversial. Having someone there in a superfan capacity would be useful too, which would broaden the level of discussion. I couldn't care less about stamp collecting and all that crap but discussion about how stuff was recorded or how rarely certain songs were played live would be nice.

I think they do go into that stuff - if they did it all in detail these would be hours and hours longer They play rare and unreleased material and talk about bootlegs. Quite refreshing for an endorsed Queen product. It gives the view that Queen are quite blaise about unreleased things as they talk about stuff very casually in the same way they've always approached Smile stuff. It's made me understand their mindset a bit more clearly. It isn't a secret history they want repressed, it's just stuff they did and you can find it if you want. A great series. The little touches of how they first heard songs or saw artwork is quite charming too #relatable

Listening to the interview with Tim Staffell now, I know it's long been suspected but is this the first time it's been 100% confirmed Silver Salmon is his song?

He played it at some Fan Club convention ca 9 years or so ago, and, yes, that day he also confirmed he'd penned it.

So I guess there's only one episode left this season. Bummer!
These episodes have really helped me out on those brutal midweek commutes. I'm going to miss it!
If any of you haven't given the show a positive rating and/or comment, please do. Apparently there's the possibility it might not return if QPL (I'm guessing) doesn't care to support the show any longer.

I've also recently gotten into this podcast, and I'm just about finished with Side B of Sheer Heart Attack. The Tim Staffell episode was so wonderful. Did you glean that possibility of not returning for another season based on something that was posted online, or just based on what they were saying? I'm really hoping they go through everything. I've been following/rating them all over the social media's I use.

I'm not sure, but it seems they want to prove to QPL that their support in the project is surely appreciated and worth their efforts. Just my guess. Bottom line is that I'm not taking any chances. I'm ranting and raving just how fantastic this program is because I want to see it for years to come. It makes my commutes so much easier. I feel like I'm sitting with friends having a warm conversation. Yes, their commentary isn't always spot on, they make the odd error, but they're open to criticism and are simply there to relish in the greatest rock band in the world. I couldn't ask for better!

I echo what Frank wrote - especially the bit about sitting with friends. I would go to the pub with these guys to chew the fat. I really hope it comes back in January as trailed on the last episode.

A highlight of my week. Gave them a 5 star review already
Hope they will be back for more - great balance between insight and humor.
Is QP the quiet mastermind behind it??
To be honest; the Qal law episode felt like a “on the payroll” affair 😬

I adore these podcasts! I love that the panel is long time fans, they have knowledge of the first albums and early years, which is so refreshing in this age of new fans that only know the later hits. Having Simon on makes it even better, the more rare clips that he brings really make the show. And they are all so funny, it really is like sitting with a group of like-minded friends. I haven’t listened to them all yet, I just got to the end of sheer heart attack and I am bummed to just find out they were gathering questions for their final show of the season, which is now out. So I missed the chance to ask things. I hope this show goes on!
One question though, they say they need good reviews and such to get support for future seasons, but I don’t know how to rate a podcast. I listen on the podcast app on my iPhone, but I don’t see anywhere to leave feedback. I am not a super tech person so maybe someone can give advice? I did go follow them on Twitter.

I believe the podcast will continue in the new year going through the next 3 or so albums - ANATO, ADATR, NOTW - and there maybe 1-off specials before then. Live At The Rainbow review was mentioned as they've just been through the 1st 3 studio albums.
They will do a Top 10 Queen videos vote special and are asking listeners to e-mail in their lists.
They are open to receiving stories, questions and corrections to earlier episode comments.

Finally got around to finishing these.
The Tim Staffel episode was a riveting listen and surprisingly moving. What a lovely, lovely chap he is. So humble and honest but clearly very talented and skilled. Some very philosophical moments on there, going beyond the usual fan stuff, and I felt the podcasters treated him with real respect.
Enjoyed the SHA episodes very much, still up to the standard of the other album dissections. I hope ANATO and onwards get the same depth of discussion, thus far they have been very impressive in not resorting to the bleedin' obvious, but that may be more of a challenge once the "hits" start to snowball.
As usual a few nitpicks regarding the accuracy of a few details.. I was really quite miffed about the claim that the last ever Queen performance was at the after show at Kensington Roof Gardens. I believe that was post WEMBLEY, not Knebworth. So we have the slightly unsavoury idea that the last ever Queen performance was with the disgraced Gary Glitter, on an officially sanctioned podcast..
Did John Deacon really play acoustic guitar on "Tenement Funster" and "She Makes Me"? This just felt like Wikipedia speculation being recited verbatim. On the other hand they did make me reconsider how Brian fitted in with the recordings made in his absence. Then there was a bit too much made of the idea of Brian being heavily involved in writing Leroy Brown, which to me had no basis in anything other than supposition. Challenging or unpopular opinions are great to hear, but I baulk at factual misrepresentations like this.
Nitpicks.. but I can forgive them almost anything really, they're so engaging and fannish. Sincerely hope it comes back for ANATO and beyond.

Did John Deacon really play acoustic guitar on "Tenement Funster" and "She Makes Me"? He's credited for 'bass, acoustic guitar' (IIRC) and then there's a separate entry for 'Misfire', where he's credited for 'almost all guitars'. That would suggest there's also at least one track besides his own featuring him on acoustic. Deep Cuts credits him for 'Tenement Funster' and it makes a lot of sense. 'She Makes Me': I don't think so; the backing track would've likely been done with bass, drums and acoustic guitar and John's only got two hands! On the other hand they did make me reconsider how Brian fitted in with the recordings made in his absence. That point's been shrouded in myth to say the least. According to what's been documented, it seems that he was there in the beginning, then fell ill and they did some sessions without him, then he returned and they finished the album together. It's not like there were lorries loaded with May-less multi-track tapes done throughout months and months of a three-piece band making do. Then there was a bit too much made of the idea of Brian being heavily involved in writing Leroy Brown, which to me had no basis in anything other than supposition. Supposition, wishful thinking, baseless speculation. Challenging or unpopular opinions are great to hear, but I baulk at factual misrepresentations like this. But there's got to be evidence to challenge the 'fanon', as in the case of Mr Everett playing 'Bohemian Rhapsody' four times (not four-teen), Frederick being a major songwriting contributor towards the end (not merely asking the others to write stuff for him), and so on.

It's not like there were lorries loaded with May-less multi-track tapes done throughout months and months of a three-piece band making do. It was just not something I'd really thought about, beyond the direct quotes we've had about Killer Queen and Flick of the Wrist. I'd not considered that the likes of Tenement Funster or, I dunno, Lap of theGods, might have been initially recorded (backing tracks) in his absence. But there's got to be evidence to challenge the 'fanon', as in the case of Mr Everett playing 'Bohemian Rhapsody' four times (not four-teen), Frederick being a major songwriting contributor towards the end (not merely asking the others to write stuff for him), and so on. Indeed, but extraordinary claims should require.. actual evidence, not stand as fact until there's evidence to the contrary. Though I think we're in agreement here. Any good story catches on like no one's business, true or not. I reiterate I like the podcast a helluva lot. I just think they need a 'statto' type on hand rather than wiki. But no one would care but me so what you gonna do..

I do enjoy the podcast but theres some fake news in this weeks. They stated freddie and kenny everett took diana gay clubbing. That is an urban myth that never happened. I think phoebe stated it was false too. It was in the program called "Urban Myths" which is a series about "events that may or may not have happened" . It has been showing in the UK on Sky arts. Some quite good stories are in the episodes.

Just listening to the latest episode (side 2 ADATR) and Simon Lupton hinted at a release of Hyde Park. Thoughts anyone? Seems to me he is closer than most to QPL...

It occasionally stuns me that some of them are unfamiliar with stuff that has been so widely available (Rare Live, On Air material etc) but as said before, that adds to a different perspective which is why this podcast works well for me.
I'm glad that Suze voted for Calling All Girls in the video rundown. It's easily my favorite. I was going to tell her on twitter but then saw she was being rude about the Duke Of Edinburgh so left it.

I'm catching up, and find it quite enjoyable. But I'm fairly astonished when Simon said in the album cover episode that Freddie's legs were short so his center-of-gravity was low, that's why he was able to bent backward so much, while other people with regular ratio could fall. Obviously Fred had long legs!

Has anyone listened to the other one 'Lap Of The Pods?' Thoughts? I only started listening to both podcasts over the past couple of weeks and initally preferred the Queenpod over the Lap Of The Pods, but the more I listen the less I like the Queenpod. The presenters all come across a bit too smug and stage school, and there's a bit of a sales pitch vibe to it. Whereas the guys on Lap Of The Pods come across as more down to earth and aren't afraid to say if they think a song is shit. The downside for LOTP is the audio quality and no access to the music. Listening to both gives a nice balance though.

Another podcast worth checking out is Recovering Queen. Great 30 minute episodes where a group of musicians chat about one of the lesser known Queen songs and at the end they play a cover version of that song. Great discussion and nice to have another fan podcast on Queen.
