Honestly, it's a toss up between Thunder and Lighting/We Will Rock You (Fast) and Flash/The Hero. Both of them get me pumped up, but I can't deny how much I love the fast version of Rock You.

What about Flash - Rock It?
There always needs to be one stickler.

When I saw them in Providence in '78 NOTHING can compare to the thrill of that thunder intro!!! With the smoke surrounding the stage as the lights were still off before the rig rose and then as the show started to reveal it all is a memory I'll never forget!!!

I voted for The Hero. But I love the absolute WTF of them opening briefly with Jailhouse Rock in 1980. And another vote for the Rock It intro. Such a great live era for them.

I don't think you can beat Thunder / WWRY (Fast) as an intro that really meant business. I'd go as far as to say it's one of the best live openings of any band, at any time.

I would've loved to have been there to see the stage come alive to the Machines intro. Just listening to it isn't nearly as exciting as listening to WWRY (Fast), though.

Having seen them numerous times on every US tour from NATO on, WWRY fast was the best opening by far. It was one of the best openings of any rock group that I saw. It was fast, raw and bombastic, setting the stage perfectly for what was yet to come. And remember back in the day we had no idea what the opening would be, let alone a version of a number 1 hit that was totally revamped. Totally unexpected and better than the slow version. Nothing compares to me, despite the other great openings. Great memories thinking about it.

I would've loved to have been there to see the stage come alive to the Machines intro. not at the NEC in '84 you wouldn't. I know, I was there...the echo in what was (at that time) the biggest indoor UK venue - AKA Corrugated Iron Cowshed with an Airplane Hanger bolted on - was terrible.

Changed my vote to Flash/The Hero because typically didn't they follow up with We Will Rock You (Fast)? Best of both worlds.

One Vision. Madrid 1986. Unaware of what would happen listening to the backward sounds, synths progression, etc.... wow!

And from the Queen+ period ... The opening with the animation of Frank the robot breaking through the stage was amazing. Queen + Paul Rodgers Cosmos Rocks tour I saw in Antwerp (the only time the played Time To Shine live BTW) and they started with Surf's Up School's Out, which really worked well! Starting with taped into, then the scream and a full burst of live energy. Can't believe they replaced it with taped Surf's Up intro followed by that boring Hammer To Fall live, which really did NOT work as an opener that way.

On a personal note, it's what solidified my love for Frank and inspired a half-sleeve tattoo I now proudly wear on my right arm.

I chose thunder intro wwry fast, very powerful and unexpected!
Father to son was a very good opener, the whole band was very tight and heavy. Difficult song for the public to appreciate it.
Wwry slow would have been one of the best opener, if it was fully live. Freddie was on the one side, while Brian on the other playing the solo and then wwry fast. As theatrical idea was great.
I also like, the fact that on very few crazy tour gigs, Let me entertain you was the opener, after thunder intro
Flash intro / The hero one of my favorites
Rock it was nice idea, but flash intro didn't suit.
Machines intro was great, it sounded like Dolby surround, Tear it up was very good choice, but sonically it failed.
One vision very powerful opener.

It would be interesting to know who has voted from the point of view of actually being at a show and who has voted after watching video footage.

The synth drone noise mixed with the explosions used 1979-1981 (the synths I think was played by Roger) is so dramatic and gives me goosebumps every time. I always thought it was scary because of the affect it gives but I still love it!
