How come Greatest Hits is still in UK top 10 album charts? Last week number 6, this week number 8. Are new born babies being produced just to purchase GH's. Who in the UK cannot own a copy? It is fantastic, but after almost 1000 weeks on the UK chart who is buying it?
On a slightly different note, brilliant to see Alice Cooper go straight in at number 4, Detroit Stories is a great album.

1000 weeks? Holy shit. It is the best selling album in the UK, right? Even above The Beatles.
I hope we get another re-release this year and nothing else!

935 to be precise. But after 935 weeks, I think we can round up to the nearest 1000

Must admit I had no idea it was still in the charts! It's not done quite so well worldwide, with sales of 'only' 25 million. Thriller and Back In Black still claim the top two worldwide sales, with 66 million and 50 million respectively.

2 factors in my view.
1. It has always sold consistently. 2. Nothing else is getting released.

The data is completely made up. In fact, don't even buy it - the government, Facebook and Pornhub can listen in on your conversations via your record player, CD player, tape deck, mini-disc player or whatever digital listening device you have. And your brain will transmit 5G. And bats in China can become infected by BoRhap19. Also, it only encourages them to re-release it. The latter part of that is the vital bit.

Could it be from streaming numbers, or is it impossible for those to contribute to the sales of compilations?

pg @thrillyeti in 2016 - the average Album sales were: Pos....Weekly Sales 1......39,500 2-5....14,000 6-10...8,500 11-20..4,600 21-30..3,100 source: www.statista.com/statistics/323838/average-weekly-album-sales-by-chart-position-uk/Yes, streams DO count. 1000 streams (of any album track) = 1 sale absolutelabelservices.com/ukchartstreamingratios/source: www.prsformusic.com/m-magazine/news/uk-album-charts-start-including-streaming-data/#:~:text=All%20track%20streams%20will%20be,on%20CD%2C%20vinyl%20and%20digital. alone, it doesn't look like a big deal. it is. in 2020, the average number of spotify streams for a no1 album was 500,000 per day. therefore, the "inflation" of sales figures = 3,500 per week. a bigger streaming figure (2-2.5 million) certainly happens often enough for 500k to be "average". this equates to 14m per week - which in turn, converts into 14,000 sales. not hard to see how a great social media presence can jump an artists from top 20 to top 10 - or even no1. source: www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/this-spotify-chart-data-reveals-a-whole-lot-about-the-uk-music-industrys-last-12-months/Now, one last thing: it ain't just spotify that counts. factor in streams from Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music and others. very quickly the picture becomes distorted and non-sales are in reality the bigger part of the "sales" figure. for most artists, actual physical sales (CDs vinyl, downloads) equate to less than 20% of the total "sales" figures. in Queen's case that's around 1,700 actual sales. Conversely - it does make for a rosy future for QPL - as this constitutes around 6,800 streaming sales - which converts quite nicely into almost 7 million Greatest Hits individual tracks streamed in the UK per week (an average of 400,000 UK streams per track. www.officialcharts.com/getting-into-the-charts/how-the-charts-are-compiled/

Cheers for that, that's interesting.
I guess what confuses me slightly is, if I stream Bohemian Rhapsody on Spotify, is it contributing to the 'sales' of both Greatest Hits and ANATO? The Greatest Hits version and the ANATO version are seemingly the same on Spotify (in that, they have the same total plays), but it would seem like a strange system if playing a track contributed to the 'sales' of every album and compilation that that track was on.
