Jesus, that's incredible. Bloody well done.
We can only wonder what the James Webb telescope is going to see if this is what can be captured from your back yard.

I must say, I personally prefer the 90 image stack because it, imo, feels a bit more natural

I must say, I personally prefer the 90 image stack because it, imo, feels a bit more natural i know what you mean. but it did leave a lot of centre-image noise. is anyone up for giving this a go? all you need: DSLR, tripod, imaging software. I can provide my Workflow for anyone who fancies a stab possible tagerts: Orion Nebula, Andromeda Galaxy, Running Man Nebula, Flame Nebula, Double Cluster in Perseus, Jupiter and its moons, Saturn and maybe (on a clear night) Pleiades.

That would be a great phone wallpaper, but I have to say, as an astronomy photo, I prefer the realism of the previous one.

I'm going to try 2-second images next time - should reveal more of RM without processing.

Holy shit. That’s all I can say. (Ok, maybe not!)
I have loved astronomy my entire life. Back when I was 8 or 9, my dad got me a telescope for my birthday, and we would spend hours looking through that thing. (I even briefly got into UFOs and aliens around the same time, but I freaked myself out one too many times and gave that up.) It’s so fascinating, though, that a stars may just look like paint splats on a black backdrop, applied at random, but there’s a cosmic order and structure to it all. There’s no better definition of “controlled chaos” than our universe.
…shit, I need to lay off the green stuff…

Black Wings Chief Mouse ThomasQuinn georg jon_innuendo HelloDelilah Chopin1995 pg emrabt The Real Wizard Lord Fickle Raf katydyd5 ted Steve CuppaJo Mad4Metal badboybez Egietje velizar Mustapha Ibrahimso, there've been precious-little clear nights for a couple of weeks now, but I did manage to grab around 50 images of Orion on Feb 6th. It's strange how even subtle changes in earth's atmosphere can reveal much more or less in images taken with the same settings. so, here's two stacked images (composites of 30+ raw images) taken only an hour or so apart on the 6th. the first has better quality, while the second reveals more nebula - at the cost of more "noise". going to try for more detail tonight with an extender - which will take the 135mm upto 270mm, it may mean I'm pushing the 1-sec exposure limit in the 500-Rule and it'll also mean chopping off the widest F/2.0 aperture down to around F/3.5. but, worth a try nonetheless. so if the clouds hold off, I may have something to post later/tomorrow.

Too bad the extender didn't work out for you. Your most recent stack looks great - did you touch up the colours much?

Too bad the extender didn't work out for you. Your most recent stack looks great - did you touch up the colours much? not really much colour change gone on - it's more abluot levels although some curves are adjusted - but mainly to select the black point in the sky. I probably should've done more colour adjustment, as Orion contains more pink and blue, but I didn't want to sacrifice what detail I had captured. Next time I'm going to set the image capture file format to .fits rather than .tiff and try longer exposures - hopefully I'll get more natural colour.
