Hello all, I just came across this video on Freestone's YouTube channel about the album Innuendo. It was uploaded about a week ago, so some or many of you might not have seen it yet! It seems to contain some interesting bits about Freddie around the Innuendo era and the album. (although the 'background' music is a little annoying)

That was a great episode and, if accurate, clears up 1 or 2 things. One thing it makes me question is whether Peter Straker was involved in the lyrics of IGSM - as has been claimed in the past.

One thing it makes me question is whether Peter Straker was involved in the lyrics of IGSM - as has been claimed in the past. Sometimes Peter says he and Freddie spent the night thinking up one liners and it turned into IGSM, other times Peter says Freddie cut him out of his life the year before he died because he asked about AIDs. If he was involved it was obviously very early on.

No reason all accounts can't be accurate. They'd started work on IGSM in late 1989. And Peter Straker was one of many who were 'cut out' of Freddie's life in the last year (after Innunedo was complete anyway), matching what Phoebe says about Freddie wanting certain friends to only remember him at his 'best'.

Straker himself flat out denied having co-written those lyrics.

Jim Hutton says Freddie and Straker wrote alot of the IGSM lyrics during a vodka fuelled night in Garden Lodge. He also wrote Freddie cut Straker out after he turned up drunk at a cafe in Knightsbridge. Lots of conflicting stories around this period of time

Peter's answer to that (20m03s): His hesitation speaks volumes. Looks like a bit of revisionist history to me.
Mercury cutting him out of his life was clearly a painful experience, so he just doesn't want to elaborate on that period - it's understandable. But there's not a chance that was a conclusive "no".

His hesitation could've been merely a case of trying to remember which song that was. He's not one of us: he hasn't got all the catalogue in his head, ready to quote back lyrics or point out dates, studios used, who engineered and what model of synthesiser was used.

He's not one of us: he hasn't got all the catalogue in his head, ready to quote back lyrics or point out dates, studios used, who engineered and what model of synthesiser was used. Exactly. I can't even tell you what I had for dinner last night, let alone what I did on day X over 30 years ago.
Plenty of guys in bands don't even remember which songs were on which albums, never mind the finer details. When Jason Newsted was asked about his favourite songs on Load, he said he couldn't tell you which songs were on Load or Reload.
