You may well be absolutely correct on this. I also have a feeling that this might have been broadcast before although I genuinely cant remember.

I doubt it though lol
*Edit*
This just popped up on Yahoo news regarding the 10 Pics show. At least it has someone who actually knew him....

Could be ok, can't be any worse than the Channel 5 stuff they've recycled over the last few years since the movie came out. I could do without Montreal again though

I could do without Montreal again though it really can be, and will be - equally as bad. 9pm Freddie Mercury: A Life In Ten Pictures - awful, car-crash, rubber-necking stuff...the last few photos are focusing on Freddie's demise. also, why is there nothing between II and Live Aid? 10pm Queen Rock Montreal - multi-repeat fodder 11.30 The Story Of Bohemian Rhapsody - been around since 2004, currently easy to find on YT

I’ve just been on the BBC website and there is nothing about it being on before, so it is new, but pg will be right! It turns out "In Ten Pictures" is a new BBC documentary series; there is an episode on Tupac Shakur the following week, for example. The original announcement for the series says:
"The photographs featured will be selected from every stage of their lives, and along the way the films will explore contemporary themes about identity, sexuality, race, gender and more. The photos themselves range from little-known family snaps to iconic images... Alongside these extraordinary pictures, the series uses personal testimony from people close to the subjects or connected to the photographs."
There's a preview of the show in the TV Times magazine:
"This moving tribute begins with a photo of Farrokh Bulsara (Freddie Mercury's real name) as a baby, sitting happily in his pram in Zanzibar, where he was born. The next nine pictures then guide us through his remarkable life, from his time at boarding school in India, to cradling his godson in Munich and performing at Live Aid in 1985. While every picture tells a story, it's the personal details shared by the people who knew and loved Freddie that make this film special. He was a shy child, an adoring godfather and a great friend as well as the flamboyant frontman of a classic rock band."
So at least they're speaking to people who knew him, but the preview write-up suggests there will be little that is new to die-hard fans. But it's not really aimed at us, is it?

I have to admit, I do have it set to record, but Im not really holding out much hope in it I’m doing the same thing, you never know, it could be amazing or it could be utter rubbish, the BBC’s last Queen documentary ‘From Rags to Rhapsody’ was great; although a lot of it was from the extras for DOOL, so I still have some hope, but as it has been encouraged by QPL, I don’t have much hope! 😂

The contributors were actually people who knew very well including - Peter Freestone, Peter Hince (Ratty), Rheinhold Mack's son Freddie Mack (Freddie's godson), Rose Rose (as mentioned before), a photographer who took the pic of Freddie at Live Aid with his Arm raised in the air - I forget what his name was. All the stories behind the pics were quite entertaining too, especially Freddie Mack's stories and pics of "Uncle Freddie".

I'm nearly finished watching it now and there is never seen before footage in it (well at least new to me): concert footage of the band on stage during the We Are The Champions video shoot. It appears to be on a camera at the back of the venue (possibly suggesting the old myth of there being a camera here to be true). You can hear the audience cheering and the short three second clip doesn't show any of the crew (or at least in the way they would've been during the filming of the video) plus none of the band do any of the poses seen in the video either. If anyone is interested in looking at it, it is roughly 20:30 in this link: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000tzf0

Anwar Hussein was the Live Aid photographer they interviewed. The stories of Freddie's 39th birthday party in Munich (the black & white ball) from photographer Richard Young, his wife Susan & David Wigg were entertaining. Also, Bruce Murray recalling the boarding school days, The Hectics & wondering if that really was his old school friend on Top of the Pops.
Wasn't surprised to see Lesley-Ann Jones included as an interview subject, but again, at least she knew Freddie. I also appreciated the documentary trying to give some wider cultural context as it went along, e.g. the political situation in Zanzibar, Indian boarding school life, attitudes towards homosexuality in the UK in the 1960's. Also, they didn't shy away from talking about Sun City, either.

Do you think Phoebe's memory fails with that picture, where Freddie is in the bed with the cats. I have a feeling that Freddie couldnt have looke dthat weel in september 1991.

I saw this documentary via YouTube and I actually enjoyed it very much. There aren't going to be many people left who knew Freddie personally in a few years, so I appreciated their participation. Having said that, I cringed when I saw Leslie Ann Jones. I haven't read her book, have no intention to do so, and find her incredibly annoying. I did enjoy the clips of Freddie Mack, especially as he was sharing pictures that were new to me from a family photo album. I too questioned Phoebe's memory on the date of the picture of Freddie in bed with the cats, but overall, I thought this was well done and an interesting concept for a documentary.
Note: I apologize if this appears twice. The connection closed as the post was loading so I'm trying again.

Yes, his first book says it's taken in the autumn of 1981 in garden lodge which is apparently fault, since he didn't live in garden lodge in 1981 and both Delilah and Miko were not Freddie's. From Jim's book, Delilah arrived in 1987 and Miko in 1988, I would assume the photo was taken in 1989 or so.

And its more like 1988/1989 Freddie from the look of him. As we can see, even the closest persons who knew him seem to mix things up.

I saw it 2 hours ago and also enjoyed it a lot. Indeed, those pictures from Freddie Mack's christening were very interesting and never publicised before. There was an invitation for Freddie's birthday party in Munich, I don't remember seeing it before. Regarding that Phoebe's picture, he said it was the very last photo he took of Freddie, but my guess is September 1990, not 91. While speaking about it, there's that photo of Freddie outside Garden Lodge which we all know, and that was taken in September 91 (there are 2 different sources to prove that) and he looks better on this pic with cats, that's for sure. Anyway, it's great to see a documentary without the same stories being told over and over again, and to see some new photos. There was also that funny comment from Bruce Murray (the singer of The Hectics) "I was the lead singer and Freddie was just my piano player". There might be some rare footage from 1977 as someone noticed before, I will look at the Chin's compilation to see if it's all there. And it was nice to hear Chopin's Prelude in this documentary.

But you were willing to believe 1981? Clearly that was a typo...the question is whether the 8 or the 1 should be a 9. While I agree that the Tatdool stuff from May (?) Shows a more fragile Freddie, a beard grown after that and a baggy sweatshirt could help offset that. It's not as if he's going to want to be shaved if his face is covered in lesions, is it...

I think that looks like it could be August -September 1991. He has his chin tucked in and his forehead is rather prominent so he doesn't look quite as thin as he probably was. There were a few press shots of him during those last months, one in particular that I remember appeared to have some bad editing to make him look like he had gone gray in his beard. Freddie was seen at restaurants in London and Montreux until the early fall of 1991.

I would have had it down as 88, 89, or 90. He has the same beard as featured in the promo videos for all the singles from ‘The Miracle’, and the later ‘Headlong’, and he certainly looks far more healthy, has more hair and is fuller in the face than in the later ‘I’m Going Slightly Mad’ and ‘TATDOOL’ videos, which were recorded around Feb and May 1991 I recall? Definitely not Sept 91, 4 months after the final promo video when he was already looking awfully ill - by September I guess he would have been far more frail.
