Are there any bands etc. out there that made an ode to Queen, not a cover but a song similar to a Queen song. In the Netherlands there was a cabaret group called "De Vliegende Panters", they are Queen fans and in their songs they always sang in close harmony, similar to Queen. They also made a tv show, and the following song is a ode to Bohemian Rhapsody, the lyrics don't have anything to do with Queen but the music does.

Weird Al did a song called Ringtone that was a "style parody" of Queen. Definitely not one of his better songs, but the Queen elements are there.

I basically made an album that was an ode to Queen with all original material (minus Its A Hard Life, obviously). I *basically* only used Queen equipment and tried to incorporate the Queen style of vocal and guitar harmonies into my kinda style of music. ...it was fun and a challenge! For this album I only used Queen styled equipment! What I mean when I say that is... - I am endorsed by Brian May Guitars, so we used my BMG’s and additionally borrowed my friends BMG Super! (We used a couple other guitars as well, but for the majority it was BMG’s) - For amps and pedals we used an AC30, along with Greg Fryer’s treble booster. As well as a 1967 Vox Berkley II head with Greg Fryer’s, MayDay Pedal. Also, towards the end of the albums tracking we used Brian May’s Amplitube. - For the synths we used a replica of an Oberheim emulation called OP X II. We used the exact presets for Radio Gaga strings/arp, along with the I Want To Break Free organ! youtu.be/mAry3nbsGAM- For drums while we used real live drums, we tried to mic them similarly to Live in Montreal..but then to ice the cake, we blended Rogers sampled sounds from The Grange plugin from Spitfire, which gave his drum sound. youtu.be/btk7FTobl5k- Then before sending it off to get mixed we put Trident’s EQ on the guitars and bass! There were presets for “Mays Midrange” that we used on a lot of rhythm guitars, along with “Queen Sheen” on some leads, and some Roy Baker Low End. youtu.be/NiwZLHeEsXsyoutube.com/playlist?list=PLd9yzX_EXKKTYztIDTznVLnMwcgbcowGH

I missed this topic yesterday, when I posted this in a different topic. I was recently playing The Alan Parsons Project's "The Turn of a Friendly Card", and it struck me that (lyrics aside), "Nothing Left To Lose" could, IMHO, have been a Queen-song. Obviously there would have been differences (synth-accordion solo -> Red Special; vocal harmonies -> somewhat more refined, that kind of stuff), but to me it sounds like they were going for a Queen-sound. I think it could very well be an intentional nod to Queen.

The american band "Jellyfish" did two great albums in the early 90s, that was full of references to Queen (beside some others)
This song "Joining a fanclub" seems to be modelled around "Play the Game", "Now I'm here" and "It's late". You may find other things as well. "Jellyfish" were sometimes criticised for copying other people's sound, but what made them special was, that they did it with style and also the songs behind the arrangements were great.

there's a a Queen influence running through Storm and Storm II. also worth a shout is Black Sabbath's Die Young Ronnie definitely uses Freddie's Nevermore tone/inflection for the chorus:
Die young, die young Can't you see the writing in the air? Die young, gonna die young Someone stopped the fall

Check out his brilliant take on Zappa:
